Hi there folks-
i searched the forums, and found the rules about crafting, but only this on limitations:
"Armor, gloves, and small-medium weaponry may have a maximum of 4 benign (positive) powers. Large weaponry may have a maximum of 5 beign powers.
Equippable items may have a maximum of 3 benign powers.
Ammo may have a maximum of 2 benign powers."

What is meant by 'benign' powers?
For example, I have 3 effects on my bastard sword: enhancement +3, Sonic 1d4, and keen.
Can more effects be added?
Also, could I add, say, fire damage, and have fire and sonic at the the same time? What's stackable and what isn't?

Please help, as Im running out of gold in game with the trial and error approach.

You can add 1 more power onto a bastard sword which already has 3 powers. enhancement +3, Sonic 1d4, and keen

So you could add for example some mass crit... ot +1 str or +1 constitution.

You can however also remove stuff and add new things. In your case you could remove the +3 enhance and add +4 enhance... and remove the 1d4 sonic and add 1d6 sonic... or acid... or fire... whetever you like best. Just not two of the same kind. Means you cannot add 1d6 sonic AND 1d6 electricity even if the sword would have enough power points left. :)

p.s. it does however work if one is restricted. Means if you have a weapon with 1d4 divine towards evil... or 1d4 neg energy towards good... you can still add a plain 1d6 sonic.

It does however still account towards power. What does not count towards the power points are visuals, light effects and custom names.

Powers

All powers are worth 1 power, regardless of their strength, except as noted below:

All armor class bonuses: +1 to +4 are one power; 5+ are two powers.
Damage resistances: 15/- is two powers; 20/- and higher are four powers.
Enhancement 5+ is four powers.
Abilities cost powers equal to their modifier (ie: Str +2 costs 2 powers).
Malign powers don't count towards power limit on an item.
Permanent freedom is two powers.
Personalization doesn't count towards your power limit on an item.
Regeneration is 1 + 1 power per modifier. For example, +1 Regeneration is worth two powers while +3 Regeneration is worth four powers.
Specific saving throw bonuses: +1 to +3 are one power; 4+ are two powers.
Universal saving throw bonuses: +2 is two powers; 3+ are four powers.
Use limitations and temporary powers don't count towards your power limit on an item.
Visual effects don't count towards your power limit on an item.

"Benign" powers are any powers on the item that give a positive boost to a stat or ability. Any bonus to spell slot or spells to cast, too.
Examples: +2 Str, Cat's Grace (3) 1/day.

"Malign" powers are any powers on the item that cause a negative effect on a stat or ability.
Examples: -2 Str, -3 Fortitude

Malign powers don't count toward the limit, but benign ones do. They can also be read as "Negative" (malign) and "Positive" (benign) powers. That's all that means.

Actually, a couple more questions:
I read in the rules that you can replace an enhancement +1 with a +2 without removing the +1.
Does this apply to elemental damage effects, or massive criticals, etc? Or must they be removed first.

I believe they'll be overwritten, or they have to be removed first. Been a while since I crafted an item with those powers. They also won't stack. A sword with +1 and +2 enhancement doesn't operate as a +3 sword. It goes off the larger bonus.

With any mythal you may remove an item property without the mythal being consumed. So it is easy to remove a +1 bonus and replace it by a +2.

Yeah, and if you don't it sometimes won't l;et you craft the +2, if that would max the enchantment slots.

Since this is such a thread.. I was curious at some time to know if it was possible to have a weapon like this

Kama:
+5 attack bonus
+4 enhancement
Keen
+1d10 piercing

I'm trying to figure out what's the point of the "sureforged kama".. supposed to be the best kama available after crafting <.<

Maybe...not sure really. There are Trueforged, Sureforged, Warforged, and some Wonderforged still around I'm sure. Nobody can really give you a direct answer because......most would say: Find out in-game (but this isn't really possible).

I don't mind posting it here: I am attempting to go with weapon smithing (advanced) and armor smithing (intermediate) through the job ranks. However, I am not coming across a lot fo in-game help as to how to go about doing this. is there a log somewhere stating how many of component X you need to make weapon/armor Y? And what enhancements you can imbue during the creation process?

Click on job systems and go to the matrix? I never had a character with that job, so I don't know.
