Hi there i was informed by a friend today that Gamespy may be shutting down the Neverwinter server hosting thus rendering playing on amia and the like impossible from that point on but im unsure, below is a link regarding this

http://www.droidgamers.com/index.php/ga ... ers-for-it

I wanted to find out if im just mistaken or if this is true and if so How if at all possible will Amia continue via a third party program or something like that?

This already happened.

It just prevents you from finding any servers through the Internet tab. You can still Direct Connect.

Lol... You thought they hosted the actual servers we play on? :P Nah, just the matchmaking and chit-chat utility.

BUt my point being that if no one can see the serve rin the list anymore, how will the population be maintained and even increased if no one knows about it unless someone tells them? Cause if it comes to that point won't the server die eventually?

Might be a good idea to Upp our count in the Google search for d&d and such :)

We could also rent that advertising space on NWN vault on the main page to get more publicity.

If we started taking up donations for advertising purposes, I'd love to make Amia-related banners! :D

...As a side note, banners in general may not be such a bad idea. Small, unobtrusive ones, of course, that can be placed in signatures on other game/RPG/Fantasy/NWN/etc. forums. If someone who plays NWN happens to see it, we've a fish to reel in.

I think that would be a good start, perhaps make one up and set a link in the code to jump to amia homepage. I would put it on all my sigs & attach it to my emails etc.

Its a start, if we need more someday i would happily donate to ensure the survival of NWN/Amia. I already donate to 2 other games on a regular basis however such as Dayz Chenarus, pathera & tiviana maps & Battelfeild 3 >.< also a Team Speak Server >.<. So it be a small amount, but even a small donation from everyone who plays monthly and we could easily pay for advertising.

That said, the community projects of creating a replacement for the Gamespy server list are actually coming along pretty well. I can dig up the links, if you'd like. At first, I was a bit worried, but I think with a few friendly banners, a few donations if things are getting a bit hairier, we could pull through. I think we all know that Amia can't survive forever-- but this certainly isn't its end.

I've always considered that home is the people you're with. If something catastrophic ever did happen to Amia on NWN, I think the community could find a way to migrate to a new Host Game to continue RPing together in a new fashion. I'm not trying to startle anyone, or get anyone into panic mode. I'm just trying to reassure you folks that the internet is wide and expansive, and we've still plenty of resources to discover all kinds of fun.

Guys to be honest majority of the server is not here because of the GS (gamespy not greater sanctuary) but because of us. People do not buy NWN in 2013, install it, get on the gamespy and find out server by accident. So I do not think that many things would change without gamespy.

I found Amia through Gamespy. I saw my boyfriend playing the game (mostly on another server, alas) and made him show me the game. I logged on, picked the RP server with the most players online at that particular moment, and I've been here ever since. I agree that I've stuck around because of the people, but my foot in the door was the Gamespy server list. I don't mean to predict disaster in saying that, but I don't suspect I'm alone.

As there seems to be two threads now of the same topic, I'll type the same response here.

I myself found Amia by browsing the server list, as I wanted to start playing on a roleplaying server again after a long hiatus from NWN. And Forgotten Realms interested me, as I had mostly played on servers concerning their own or other universes. Amia was a server which had a population too.

I hope the NWN-community will manage to get somekind of workaround to this. Ofcourse, advertising Amia more is a good plan also.

It should probably be in general anyway, so people who do not have an account can see it.

Also just gonna leave this here.

Greetings from the past.

Sources for news regarding this situation can be found on the gamespy technologies facebook account, as well as the other side of the story that gamespy refuses to tell.
It's not Bioware, or any other publishers fault, its gamespy who has bumped up the prices considerably to renew their contracts. Mind that Bioware stopped support for NWN back when the patches stopped flowing, which is also when the bills likely stopped getting paid.

I believe TotalBiscuit also did a little video on it. Go youtube if you like.

Game Ranger is likely your next bet for multiplayer browser support. I suggest someone approach them.

I did a google search for "NWN rp" and....Arelith was at the top of the search followed by Ravenloft, Arabel, FR Cormyr and a host of others I didn't recognize. Amia didn't show up until the 5th page...

For folks like myself who aren't that internet-savy, if it's possible to bump Amia up to the first page somehow, it might help....

I don't know how that's done, but reading some of the posts, I'm guessing it's thru paid advertising?

That's because Amia's webpages have no Meta-Tags for keywords and descriptions. I kinda assumed they did, and never looked once at the source in all the years I've been frequenting this website.

The main page has meta's for the description, but nothing for keywords, so googles search bots won't pick up amia associated with things like "NWN RP" or "NWN Persistent World". Put in keywords and Amia will jump up the rankings in those key word area's. Alternatively pay for a sponsorship advert with google when people search for things related to Amia.

This is not something a player can do mind you. Only a webmaster with access to the html sources can do this. So probably Disco.

Wait, wait. So there are no server lists, but if you direct connect, there will always be an Amia, right? I mean can bioware/gamespy or whoever disable direct connecting?

I wouldn't worry. I joined because I found Amia from the internet and ever since I came here I've seen at least 3 more newbie posts. Before gamespy shut down it appeared that Amia had the highest player count as well, if not, 2nd highest.

Advertising space on NWVault (at least on their main page in their Spotlight section) doesn't cost anything- unless they've changed that since I was there. However, the space is limited and all too often I see very poorly designed banners that do little to attract players. I'd really suggest something simple and catchy- server details are less important than memorability and humour in my experience.

I'm pretty pleased with how the server's maintained still. And I've even been casually talking to a few other people who have shown interest in potentially hopping on Amia too. So I think, really, that we're gonna be okay.

Advertising could be neat, though. NWN podcasts, hooah? :D

THis is a gooooood thing most likely. Now people wont just look and see sinfars numbers up and say "oh wow look at the high numbers..im going there" lol

Now the high number read is out of the picture. Find the link or by people telling people of Amia or any other server, is the game.

What about implementing a bot in the chatt? There's apparently people around there... Make it announce our direkt IP; and what Amia is about etc.

Perhaps we can approach Gamespy and ask them to post Amiaworld on their website, With our IP etc? Or approach a third party server and ask them to post all the NWN Servers that exist?

Or fuckit - We make our own Webbsite, Something easy - Glued with gamespy / Nwn keywords for people to get redirected towards it where we post all the servers we can find, Including our own.

I googled "Nwn Servers" btw - And i regret to say that we're out of luck there. Just look!

Do you need to buy advertisements in places like this?

And what about editing some links on http://www.nwnwiki.com ? Or what about The plain old wikipedia?

I also spoke to a guy @ http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/. He said we should get our admin to post some info about our server there as soon as we could.
I know, The webbpage looks a bit rough, but i suppose it's worth a shot?
