A banner hangs over the Blue Skies Academy today. It's finally open, it seems.

As the funeral of Justicar Marinsbane approaches, Kohlingen's Magister seems to maintain a rather low-key public profile. Perhaps intentional, perhaps not. Nevertheless, as Kohlingen prepares for the funeral of the late and beloved theocrat, most of Ulrik's time is spent in the keep attending affairs of the city-state.

On the day of the Justicar's funeral, the Amian Recorder is surprisingly tame. Since his death at the Wyrmfall Festival, William Hurst has been uncharacteristically quiet about the event, even though he was rumored to have been present for it and even witnessed the Justicar's demise personally. The day's edition of the paper has a brief, by the book report that the funeral will be held at the Church of the Triad in Kohlingen for the late Justicar Marinsbane, and will be attended by Speaker Maximillian and the Ministry heads of the Commonwealth, as well as other luminaries from around the island. It talks about renovations in former Elftown of Cordor and the humans who are moving in to the now no longer quarantined area, as well as several decent restaurant reviews, book reviews, and a brief dissertation from Hurst himself about how to properly file a work-related injury claim with the Ministry of Health and Public Welfare.

And then there's the editorials section, which by midmorning has the citizens in one hell of a tizzy...

EDITORIALS: DO A MOTHER'S RIGHTS OUTWEIGH THE RIGHTS OF THE CITIZENS?

No doubt, readers, that you have been following our daily coverage of the Mengala baby snatching! Mere days ago, while giving birth in the Cordor Hospice, an unknown midwife absconded from the Hospice with a newborn, only just breached from her mother's glorious womb! While experts investigating the case on behalf of the Chapel of Lathander's Dawnguard and the Ministry of Law have confirmed that the baby is still alive and in good health, the baby's whereabouts remain a complete mystery! As such, most of you astute, readerly citizens have begun to notice the overzealous nature of the adventurer-supported and populated Dawnguard and their assistance by the Adventuring Division. Certain testimonials were delivered to the office of the Amian Recorder (Clarion of the Commonwealth!) just this morning! They only encourage me to ask one question: when did our rights as citizens become compromised simply because of what I would certainly deem a victimless crime?

Quote:
Mister Hurst,

I am writing on behalf of my wife and all good citizens to inform you of a terror set upon us by the very guard we expect to protect us from it: The Adventurer.

Yesterday morning, a Corporal Marcus of the Adventuring Division came to visit my house, insisting he needed to search it for some adventurer's missing child and had to bring in "experts." Being a father myself and a law abiding citizen, I complied, despite seeing the guard's chosen entourage of adventuring companions and a large, feral looking forest cat. I should have known then that my Canal Lane home was to then be 'legally invaded' by a vicious kobold and a woman dressed in the white armor of the Dawnguard! The guard assured me that the Kobold was trained not to eat children, but every time my child was mentioned, it just sat there and wagged its tail like a dog hearing that a bone had been offered to it!

It was a horrendous experience, and it only got worse as they insisted upon seeing my sleeping infant daughter. What recourse does a citizen have against the guard in such an instance? The Dawnguard insisted upon giving me a plush doll to set by my child, which I complied with for fear she would grow violent. The Kobold then entered and started sniffing about but then the two of them departed for my kitchen, likely to let her Kobold partake in my pantry goods. Meanwhile, all the guard did was ask me questions about how long my child had been alive and then had the gall to question whether or not my own wife was truly the mother of our daughter! Such an implication is an outrage!

Of course, the whole of this calamity awoke my wife. I pray, sir, that you never experience the scorn of a woman who sees a Kobold approaching her baby! By the nine, I was almost less afraid of the home-invading Adventurers! Imagine, a grown woman screaming and clinging to our child as a toothy, scaled Kobold and its adventurer master traipsed around while a guard stood idly by! Thank the gods, they shifted back downstairs and after receiving a thorough scolding, I followed them only to find that while we had been upstairs a filthy Drow had entered my home! Corporal Marcus at least threw her out on the street where she belonged, but only after he had seemed to notice my own presence!

What is a man to do to keep his family safe from adventurers and kidnappers in this trying time, Mr Hurst? To whom do we appeal when our own homes are being invaded and our families terrorized by monsters and adventurers under the guise of legal investigation?

Sincerely yours,
R.P.Wilkins

Mr. Wilkins,

Your recourse, my most humble neighbor, is the same recourse provided to every citizen of the Commonwealth or denizen of the Amian island: to provide a public account of your harrowing experiences to the Amian Recorder, so that in a blinding display of quartz-clear truth we can ensure our voices are heard!

But his voice is but one among many.

Quote:
Mr. Hurst,

By now it must be common knowledge that the Dawnguard Mengala and her Drow wife's child has been taken by an unknown midwife. I was there when the incident occurred at the Hospice. I bore witness to the kidnapping and, as I think any decent individual and mother should, wish only for the safe return of the child to its parents. However, I cannot excuse the fact that the Drow companion of the two suffering parents took out her rage upon me! She grabbed me with her black hands and rattled me senseless! Her eyes flashed an evil wretched red and she yelled at me in a vile tongue! I feared for hours that it was some nefarious curse, but Tristana of Waukeen has assured me that I am not cursed, even if I am bruised and battered. This monstrous woman threatened my life as if it had been myself who tore their family apart. I had just helped to deliver this child into the world and this was the payment I received at the hands of these non-citizens and adventurers?

Please, Mr. Hurst, make my plight known so that such treatment never happens again!

Regards,
Nurse Judy Esterkin

Nurse Judy,

I regret that such a thing occurred to you, but our glorious leader Joseph Maximillian has been stating since the very day he took office that adventurers and their ilk cannot be trusted, and your personal account is precisely why! Though it may sound uncouth to some, the highly educated investigative journalist in me is led to the fountain of knowledge, in whose surface is reflected one cold, crisp concern: if this baby were still in the hands of a drow adventurer, how much better would it fare, being shaken and rattled violently on a mere whim?

Citizen Xee of the Ministry of Health & Public Welfare sends a personal apology to the Council and to the Justicar's office for her inability to attend the funeral due to a serious illness combined with an extended and unforeseen delay in acquiring the appropriate curative magics.

// sorry, wasn't able to make the event due to other plans

The gossip mill in Kohlingen and Cordor received new juicy material this day that gives great oppertunity for speculation. Apparently Sir Robert collapsed in the Cordor Square and was carried through both cities because he was afflicted with the talonite plague. Or was it just a bad case of the flu? Perhaps even an attempt on his life? Some might even recall that it would not be the first time, as no more than a year past a clan of assassins attempted to kill him in Cordor.

Bran cheers as he haltingly reads the latest edition of the Amian Recorder and buys copies to press upon the regulars of the Long and Short, which he does so with great zeal and a sense of vindication. He further makes a point of lurking around the market, commenting to passers by about the sense of entitlement adventurers seem to have, and how you can't trust them, no matter what.

The news reach a fireblooded genasi whom heads out from his residence in kholingen to seek out the Knight. He looks troubled, though he should be all but troubled considering what the knight had put him into.

Squire John does not admit the fire genasi into the residence, yet he does so in polite manner and tone. He simply states that his liege is in no condition to welcome visitors at this time, and if it changes he will of course be informed.

It seems Castiel, Robert's ex wife has begun to make her own visits, for several hours at a time. She doesn't seem to pay mind to the strange looks she gets as she enters the home, and when she leaves, she looked worried and tired.

Meanwhile, Tuomas quietly sat in the Library of the Seven Stars Academy reading over anything and everything he could on Mythals. He could not help but pause with a sigh.

~.. 'An opporotunity lost...' ~ he thought to himself ~.. Cordor's Nobility and the Commonwealth Government.. they could have tried to reconcile even if only fro the Memorial of the Justicar. Instead, the pettiness of the Nobles and Maximillian's near wrathful reaction will only continue to keep the matter seperate. Sir Augir's words were most.. troubling.~ he thought to himself, sighing before picking himself up and marking his position in the tome he was working on, setting the books aside before rising and stretching for a bit of a walk.

The morning after the funeral, the Amian Recorder releases a headline that, surprising to many readers, talks about an event that occurred just prior to the funeral with no actual mention or coverage of the funeral itself. Many letters are sent to the Amian Recorder's office demanding to know the details of the funeral itself, but arranged stationaries are returned claiming that the Amian Recorder cannot publish details of the funeral due to that story's "necessary references to an earlier event which cannot legally be represented". The vague response has questions marks over many readers' heads.

LIVING CITY NOT SO DEAD INSIDE AFTER ALL!

Citizens of the Commonwealth and discerning readers abroad! Your Editor-in-Chief of the Amian Recorder, Clarion of the Commonwealth, was personally invited to attend a once-in-a-lifetime event that took place just outside the southern gates of Kohlingen on the eve of late Justicar Saul Marinsbane's funeral. Allow me, if you will, to set the scene as best I can, conjuring every writerly talent I can muster the right effect. Memory is critical to any writer and especially to an eyewitness, investigate journalist such as myself, and there are scantily few details that can escape my steel sieve memory!

I recall that the night air was cooler than it has been. Certainly, this could have been because we were on the higher northern coast of the island as opposed to our balmier southern coast here in Cordor, for it is a standard truth that generally the further north you go the colder it gets, but perhaps, just perhaps, it was a portent of fall approaching, a season that hints at loss and presages the barrenness of winter, when trees are bereaved of green, flowers lament the loss of their petals and I quietly rejoice in anticipation of chilis and hot cocoas becoming standard dining fare.

But on this day, it was not the loss of leaves we bemoaned, but the loss of a leader. Hollow iron bells tolled a solemn hymn as my vessel from Cordor was moored and anchored in the harbor and I stood, shoulder to shoulder with the people of Kohlingen and our own fearless leader Joseph Maximillian, may the gods bless him. A small boat appeared, one of the kind chartered from Uhm or Wharftown, bearing the representatives of the Living City that most educated readers across the island know as Tarkuul.

They were garbed in their highly traditional funereal attire of black vests, coats, trousers, cloaks and dresses, but with my keen eye I spied a bit of their home city colors upon their persons: ribboned accessories of pale pink promising peace and the innocence of their proffering. One among them, a man of slick black hair stepped forward and spake the following:

"On behalf of the Living City, and in honor of the visit of Speaker Maximillian and in memory of both the demise of the Justicar and the memory of the tragedies of Wyrmfall, we wish to offer this gift. Long has it been in our possession, and long have we sought the home where these remains should be interred. Having found them, we now present them to you."

And thusly approached the gnome Tuomas Valo, who in brassy decree did raise one hand and utter:

"Then let it be by the powers of Mystra and Azuth and all of the gnome gods and the powers of Celestia that I divine the secrets of this box you have presented. If your word is true and your intent is noble and good, then I shall know it in my heart. If you speak but falsehood, then we shall know your deceit!"

The great spiritual dragon Imperator said some words of little consequence and then the representative from the Living City responded:

"Let it be so, then. We stand awaiting the judgment of our hearts. Weigh them against the feather of the heavens and see just how, in the acceptance of our peace offering, you unburden them."

And so Tuomas Valo conducted his strange and somewhat chilling and monstrous Mystran rituals to discern the nature of what lay in the box, only to exclaim, with surprise, "This box is clean!"

I stifled a cheer, for though I above many am a champion and a true desirer of peace, prosperity, and harmony, it is nonetheless true that one does not cry out in joy on the day of a funeral. Within the box, as I learned, were the bones of a dragon who fought in Wyrmfall, the notorious Arcanos. The great spiritual dragon Imperator accepted the gift and thanked the delegation from Tarkuul.

And then Speaker Maximillian, in a voice like that of a thousand score of angel's trumpets, did address the delegation of Tarkuul:

"Today marks a noteworthy moment in the history of our island communities. Though your own city-state of Tarkuul has developed an ill reputation with the Holy City and by extension with those loyal to the goodly precepts of that city such as the Commonwealth of Cordor, it is you leaders - most of you young to my eyes - who are taking the first step towards establishing more positive ties with the other powers that govern the people of this island. Your generosity and forward thinking does not go unnoticed by the Commonwealth or its people. And I personally believe that you have honored the memory of the Justicar in the effort you have shown today. May Valkur speed you home safely."

So what does this mean for the Holy City? What does this mean for the people of the island? The Amian Recorder awaits a more official recognition of the Living City's gift to Kohlingen from their interrim leader, Lady Cystana.

But whether for peace or for ill, it certainly means that the Living City is definitely alive, and perhaps not the cold and unfeeling necropolis the rumors have suggested. (Not a single one of them looked like a dead person to me!)

And meanwhile, in the Editorials section...

EDITORIALS: THE MOTHER'S RIGHT TO BE HEARD

Not only did I receive copious responses to our last editorials board regarding the investigation into the kidnapped baby and the violation of the rights of citizens by harassing adventurers, but surprise of all surprises, I also received a public address from the grieving mother herself! Though not a citizen of the Commonwealth, her voice is nonetheless an important one in this unfolding debate over her individual rights versus our collective rights to peace and innocence in the face of guard accusation and adventurer brutality!

And I must say, it is a plea that moves even the eternally objective heart of this reporter.

Mengala wrote:
Dear Mr. Hurst,

Mr. Andrew Fryar informed me that you were open to publish a letter to the editor. I have attached a letter and hope that you will publish it in its entirety.
Mengala

As a mother, a wife, a devoted follower of the Morning Lord, I am writing to you hoping that perhaps one of your readers is the person who kidnapped or has my daughter. In your editorial, ”DO A MOTHER'S RIGHTS OUTWEIGH THE RIGHTS OF THE CITIZENS?” you wrote that you deemed this abduction as a victimless crime, but I can’t disagree more.

I don’t know the abductor’s motive, perhaps one of revenge, one of profit, or what I am hoping, one of desperation. But no matter the reason, both my spouse and I, my family, and friends have struggled with the loss of my daughter. Not a day has gone by that my spouse and I haven’t spent in tears.

I am a mother of four children. My oldest son’s heart broke when he was told his sister would not be coming home. He has asked every day when he will get to see her and there are no words to express how his face sinks when he is told, “I don’t know.”

When she was still in my womb I sang songs to her, I felt her kick or turn and even have hiccups. I exhausted myself over the labor of delivering her and was not even shown her face when she entered this world. She was my miracle and one person’s actions have taken this light away.

There is an unbreakable bond between a mother and her daughter. Without even seeing my daughter I would travel the ends of Faerun to bring her back to my arms. I love her more than can be imagined and hope whoever has her realizes that I will never stop thinking about her.

We all have moments in our lives that we regret, situations that we wish we would have handled differently, or even had the ability to go back in time and change the course of history. Even good people can make mistakes, but fortunately we have the ability to right our wrongs. I implore the person who has my little girl to do the right thing, to return her. I can assure no questions will be asked from those in the Chapel of Lathander.

I am so very thankful for all of the support that the people of Cordor have given in finding my Gloria.

Dawn’s Blessing

Mengala

Hearing some rumors in Cordor, elf in red and gold armor books first ship for Kohlingen to check what's going on. He heads for Sir Robert's residence and inquires about his state.

In the wake of the latest issue of the Recorder, a number of letters are sent to Arwen & Aluvard's Fine Clothes Shoppe, along with quite a few other publically accessible tailors. They each seem to be written in a different hand, and while many are anonymous, some are signed by names seemingly common among Cordorian citizens. Someone went to great detail to make them appear genuine to all but the most probing of inspections.

Among them...
One wrote:
Dear Aluvard,

I am looking for a pair of pink ribbons, do you still have those in stock? I shall come by before a tenday's passage to purchase them.

Rebecca Summers

Another wrote:
Do you sell those delightful pink ribbons I read about in the Amian Recorder? My wife and I would like to purchase some.

M. S. Hargreaves

And another wrote:
Those peace ribbons are going to be all the rage by next season, and I simply must be ahead of the curve. As a reputable business, you must surely have these fine accessories stocked in advance! I shall expect to purchase them by the eve of the morrow!

-A (fashion-)concerned citizen

Among many others. Who could have sent them? Who would have bothered? More importantly why, if for any reason at all? These questions likely go unanswered and more to the point, unwondered - unless the tailors of Cordor could see through the ruse of course! For now, the mysterious would-be fashion engineer simply watches Cordor, patiently...

The heavy door of Xaviera's office in the Commonwealth Centre slams open and then shut again, the noise echoing down the hall as the charismatic white-haired Minister stalks forth in high dudgeon, the butt of her bronze staff slamming repeatedly against the marble floors of the palace. Her customary greetings to the guards and clerks are conspicuously absent as she strides past, eyes blazing angrily and trailing in her wake a swarm of tiny fragments of the Amian Recorder.

A tall albino woman in a cloak emblazoned with the eyes of Selune visits Kohlingen just after nightfall. She entreats Lady Cystana for a brief public audience where she gives her condolences to the woman she had grown fond of, as well as a pledge of personal support should she need it during her interim in power.

After moonrise on one of the smaller fishing docks, facing the moon's glossy reflection on the inlet, she says a prayer for the Justicar, an old friend and ally, now departed.

"I'm sorry I wasn't here... but I'm glad you're resting. You lived with too many burdens for too long."

In the early hours of the morning, even as Lathander's golden disc began to peer over the horizon, the Holy City of Kohlingen's denizens awoke to the sound of hammers and saws. A long awaited project has begun. Hired laborers and volunteers have set themselves to the early stages of a great renovation in Kohl's Western District.

Cranes are raised, crates unloaded and the skeletons of structures are thrown up with relative ease. Many hands make for a light work and the added enchantments of the city's Magister did not hurt either. Invigorated with magical strength and fortitude, as well as the weight of their responsibility, workers focus fervently upon the task at hand. While construction seems to be centered in the West, it is clear, to any passing through, that the scope of this project seems to slowly spread towards the city proper itself...

Zelly, the copper kin, can be seen directing and assisting in many of the construction areas. She brings in her own ox, a beautiful and well-groomed creature, as well. The current Copper Industries warehouse bustles with activity as boxes and crates move to and fro at her direction and the direction of those she appoints as foremen and women from within her company.

One such Foreman from within her company, the Chief Engineer can be seen within the City of Kohlingen directing workmen and seen wandering the site with a clipboard. Due to his attire he can be seen from a distance, striking quite a distinctive figure among the workmen, dressed in the manner of Calimshan whilst his white cloak emblazoned with the Symbol of the Red Knight is bright in the sun. Those who would know him, would know Ratin Immil, and he follows this project with his typical devotion.

Early one misty morning, the city's Magister passes through the growing western district as laborers are about to begin their day.
Words of magic are spoken, spells woven about the workers, bolstering their strength and physical fortitude. Small boons for the skilled craftsmen.

Image

Divinations are also cast upon guards posted on the outskirts of the city.
Spells to bolster their watchfulness and perception.

And so the wizard walked on by, spreading his magic,
imparting the Gift of Mystra upon the city's workers and guardians.

Around midday, Zelly was seen going over the entire construction site, surveying the progress and writing in a small leather-bound book. She spoke with the workers, directing them to correct potentially hazardous situations and to move crates and boxes away from the road so that travelers and trade-carts can still come and go unhindered. The first inspection came and went, but Zelly made it clear to all involved that these inspections would be regular occurrences and urged them to take care as they worked.

The safety of the workers and the people who move around them is her utmost priority.

Andrew quietly rents out a small office space in West Cordor and takes out a box with the Commonwealth Courier Company. If asked, he'd simply shrug, and offer a sheepish smile. "It's for a business."

As the morning rises and the workers go back to attending to their duties in Kholingen, a bright and charismatic Sunite can be seen handing out small portions of bread and water to the majority of the workers, if not all. She carries polite conversation with each in turn, blessing them for their hard work and determination, and continues on her way until her basket is empty. When she is done, she is seen taking a wand from her basket, and tapping it on the ground; disappearing.

Perhaps on an unrelated note, Cordor's Arena erupted in varying cheers. Cries for "Blood!" as adventurers battled for the amusement of the masses. Accolades of "Long Live" for the Commonwealth Government and the Provision of her liberating Council! Screams of "Death!" to the Nobles and Harpers that would be their oppressors. Who hole themselves up in Kohlingen, scheming and plotting as reported by the Amian Recorder.

Most importantly, the echo of the people sounded to "Cordor!" Loudly enough to bring citizens in neighboring districts a pause as their hearts beat faster and flame began to flow through the veins of proud citizens.

Anyone passing along the East Coast of the central Amian island, on the stretch of beach creatively named Sandy Beach, might notice that the broken hull of the decrepit ship that once rested there beyond repair seems to be missing...

The school once again hums with activity after a month of silence. A banner hangs over the front door. "Welcome back, students!"

A messenger disembarks Captain Guston's passenger ship in the late afternoon hours, as the vessel takes its accustomed place at the docks in Kohlingen. Stepping foot upon the docks, the young man looks about a bit awkwardly. Getting his bearings, he makes his way to the gates, where he addresses the guards after a moment of gathering his courage.

"Excuse me, s-sir. I've been sent by Mayor Garth, of Wharftown. I have an important letter for the Justicar. It's... it's important...."

Word makes its way around Cordor that a fishing schooner, The Maiden's Kiss, is long overdue. These are shortly followed by rumors of a ghost ship having been spotted chasing a similar vessel down near Wharftown. Given the unfortunate timing of the recent Kobold attacks, there is little official word concerning this rumor. What has become of the vessel is still up for speculation, but some have taken to calling it cowardly impressment by Tarkuul, connecting the word "ghost" to the "Living City."

Elsewhere, in a spartan office of black marble, a pale man in a military uniform pores over a stack of parchment, a tumbler of scotch never far from his hand. A robed and cowled agent slips into the room, leaving yet another parchment on top of the stack, nodding politely before departing again, no more intrusive than the long shadows the lone candle lighting the room casts. The man reads the new parchment, a tired frown creasing his gaunt face. He sighs, takes another drink, and begins penning several copies of a brief public notice. They are distributed in short order.

Good citizens of the Commonwealth, it has come to the attention of the Living City that many suspect the "Ghost Ship" that has recently been plaguing the coasts to be one of our vessels. I offer reassurances that such is not the case. The Living City does not, and never will, condone piracy, impressment, privateering, or any other hostile acts that would endanger the strict state of neutrality between the Commonwealth and Tarkuul. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the families of any sailors that have fallen prey to this rogue vessel. This is not the first time we have heard of this ship, however, and due to the universal threat it poses our agents and arcanists have been hard at work investigating it's origins, motives, and the dangers it presents. While information thus far has not been forthcoming, we do know that the vessel has ties to the church of Umberlee. Until the danger has passed, it is humbly suggested that citizens and sailors concerned with the safety of the Commonwealth's vessels perform the rites of praise and sacrifice that are required to appease the Queen of the Depths.

_______________________________________________

Over the past few days, Kohlingen has experienced a drastic change...

In the Western district of the city, new buildings are completed and furnished and full farm fields manned by the dedicated men and women of the city are given new life and vibrancy. Oxen till fields and farmers tending crops, plant seed in the earth to grow alongside the bounty that has thus far been feeding the city.

Her men and women at arms are given fresh suits of armor and weapons. Each piece clearly accentuating the Silver Dragon that has been adorned on almost every banner across the city. Homage to the Imperator, homage to the recently passed Justicar Saul Marinsbane, as the official symbol of the Holy City. It is evident that the number of protectors, alone, has substantially grown since the renovations of the city were undertaken. Bolstered by volunteers and even those who have recently move to Kohlingen and taken to calling it their home.

Port and harbor laid siege to by the Chosen of the Bitch Queen is now rebuilt and expanded, making room for a number of new war-ships that have been commissioned for the Holy City. Most notably is the largest war galley now gracing the Kohlinger fleet, dubbed simply but affectionately, The Marinsbane. Boasting heavy ballistae, and a fully and deliberately outfitted and top-tiered crew. This vessel was made to be a power on the water as the prided work of Kohlingen's Master Ship-Wright, Donovan Pett.

A day or two passes and a proclamation finds itself printed and distributed. The written mandate of Justicar Cys'tana giving reason, perhaps, to some of these changes...

Quote:
People of this, our Holy City,

In the days that follow, you will see change and new life breathed into this city that we call home. For us to remain a steadfast citadel against the ever spreading forces of darkness, we must take what was left to us by our predecessors and make it something better. Thus, I am not content to sit idly by and watch as our city falls prey to the illness taking hold of the island of Amia. Spurred to this action and this initiative, as we read these signs and prepare for the future, I have taken it upon myself to restructure our great military into something modern, capable and efficient. I present to you an army of defenders restructured for the sole purpose of providing our city the protection it deserves and the deterrent to evil that this island needs. These are Kohlingen's Silver Dragons.

The Silver Dragons are split into two branches. The Naval branch under command of the High-Captain, commander of our fleet who shall be given a seat on the Council, and the standing military Army under my direct command. However, the complete military will be under the purview of the Council's decisions and mandates.

The Army will be split into regiments and officers then named according to skill and merit for each. They act both as the city watch and the military and these regiments will vary in their purpose. Over these past few months, skilled leaders have made themselves known and taken on the challenges besetting our island and neighbors. Captains of key regiments will also be granted a seat on the Council, extended it by no more than three so that adequate voice an be given for our forces. Leaders among the Triadic Knights, members among Copper Industries, the newly formed Order of Mages, and even those who bear no allegiance to any of these but solely to the cause that we as a People fight for. It is in consideration of these past achievements and these future devotions that we must set to fulfill a calling to make Kohlingen a home to all of those who seek to serve the cause of righteousness and it is because of this vision I have, that I ask for all to grant us patience and trust as we create a home, if they desire it, amongst these regiments. A home that adapts to the changing times and can be sustained throughout.

I, your Justicar, and the members of your Council reaffirm our commitment to this great calling and to the task of safe-guarding Amia against all evils, wherever they may hole themselves up. We will not bow, we will not turn blind eye and we will not yield in this calling. The cause of righteousness and the task of creating lasting peace is entrusted to us by those who came before and is imperative for those who will come after. We are the children of a new age and a new path and we will remain steadfast as we strive to remain a beacon for those who still have faith in the forces of good that still draw breath on this island. This is a struggle that we, together, have already won.

Light of out Lords guide us all in these trying times,

Cys'tana
Justicar

*After the siege in Brogendenstein, news of Lieutenant Samrael Cymere's public resignation spreads throughout Winya Ravana*

Sunkin Sheep wrote:
As it comes to be, the efforts and methods taken upon myself alone to lead the Armathora into war without authorization of both the Council and the Captain of the Armathora has become a weighing trouble on my shoulders, as I have disobeyed in safekeeping the posterity of the glorious city that I have long cared for and admired. The actions were intentionally isolated to the sole responsibility of myself, so to further the careers of the comrades I had initially manipulated into serving under my self-appointed authority. On behalf of the errors counted against me, and the men and women who had served beneath me in war, and the fallen who had died under my command, I commit myself fully to accepting the consequences for acts of dissension and suspicion of treason against the elected leadership of our people. I alone, honor these charges and offer to you, the people, a public apology for neglecting and abandoning my post. The order of the council must be obeyed and honored, and none should follow in my footsteps, or for whom which intend to act against the order of their captain and council, I too will treat with disdain.

It is with great insight of friends at home who have led me to consider my actions in full retrospect, and in the spirit of progressing the council's success and the people's future as the newest beacon upon the Treaty of Light, I will exemplify my actions by resigning from my position of the Armathora. I will offer the Captain and Council my recommendation of their next choice Lieutenant whom I believe will serve the Armathora with dignity and honor. It is my genuine belief that the person best qualified for the position of Second Lieutenant be Selikean Durothil, of House Durothil. I also believe that Lieutenant Enniysae Viranirn should best retain her position as Lieutenant beside him, so that our best of minds can work akin to protecting the people. I ask Captain Laerira and my brothers and sisters in arms to help support the young dragon rider on his path to leadership.

It has been an honor serving you.

Visitors to the Lowland Delta would find a response to the destruction caused there in the tenday past. Elite Cordorian scouts have been deployed, and flag and banner proclaim to all entering the recovering settlement:

"You are now entering Cordorian jurisdiction."

The hand of the Commonwealth moves north.

Passers by may notice an increased presence of Cordorian Guards at the ruined tower in the frontier. Steady patrols are also seen along the road from Cordor to Guldorand. This route takes them from Cordor, through the Amian Frontier, along the south gate and wall of Bendir Dale and through the Skull Crags.

// OOC: the following would apply only if merchants run caravans (not just the regular cart transport routes) between Cordor and Guldorand less often than about once a day. If once a day or more then this suggestion pretty much boils down to the same as regular patrols, so ignore it :).

Xaviera suggests to the Council (either at a meeting or by letter to the other Ministers) that, given the recent incidents with the kobolds and attacks from shadowy creatures, Cordor's military forces would perhaps be best kept closer to home (i.e. no farther afield than the Lowlands Delta or the outskirts of Bendir Dale), and that sending detachments as far afield as Guldorand should be restricted to escorting shipments of goods and supplies back and forth. If necessary, a small detachment can be stationed in Guldorand and be rotated out as caravan escorts are required, but that regular patrols are too manpower-intensive.

A special edition of the Recorder hits the shelves, the headline boldly proclaiming:

NEVAEH TARVENCIA
ENEMY OF THE STATE

In a statement made by Press Secretary Hurst earlier this day, details were released of an attack said to be an assassination attempt on Speaker Joseph Maximillian himself. Sir Hector, Knight of Law and several others were said to have been cut down by the once-beloved daughter of the Commonwealth. No doubt under NOBLE coercion and HARPER magics, the regrettable declaration against our beloved daughter was issued forth from the steps of the Commonwealth Center.

By order of Secretary Mover, Nevaeh Tarvencia has been officially declared an Enemy of the State.

For more updates on this and more, loyal citizens, turn to the Recorder: "For the citizen who must be in the know!"

A rumor spreads like wildfire amongst the commoners of Cordor that a small force from Kohlingen viciously attacked several scouts guarding the Delta region north of the city. Those travelling to the old casino might find the bridge there just barely passable as a crew works rapidly to repair it. Whatever happened, it was violent.

In response to certain events that transpired last night, an edict is hastily spread across the isle of Amia from the Holy City of Kohlingen.

Quote:
Good Peoples of Amia,

The Holy City of Kohlingen vehemently denies reports and rumors that we are responsible for an attack against soldiers and scouts of the Commonwealth of Cordor in the Southern Delta Swamp Lands. Though we question the reason for Cordor's expansion North, we have made no attempt to stay their hand, nor have we taken military action to directly assault their forces.

I pray that the good peoples of the Commonwealth see through these opportunistic attempts to spur our great cities to further conflict and tension. We are launching an investigation to see the true culprits bought to justice. Justice that will be brought at the hands of those who were attacked and wronged by these cowardly acts of terrorism.

May the Light of our Lords guide us all through these troubled times.

Andrew's government and philosophy class that day was about how to discern and evaluate public announcements. He uses some of Ostland's fliers as an example for his class, juxtaposed to the actual miserable conditions present on their island.

A lanky, tall ascetic - citizenship papers in hand - began to shop for space in Cordor to set up a temple. He responds kindly to any who inquire; illustrating the antimagic goal of his style and spreading word that he would soon be happy to take on new students at his Temple of the New Moon - be they adventurers, commoners, merchants or even guards.

Following the annexation of the Lowland Delta by Cordorian elites, An individual, with wisps of to-blonde locks sticking out from beneath his cowl, teaches a tune of his own creation, and not the best work either (actually terrible, and a terrible tune is often heard by folk who want to shut it up), to people in the taverns at Uhm and Wharftown and to merchants travelling between the two towns and between Uhm and Kohlingen. Just another gold coin in the Propaganda machine? Who knows, but given neither town has installed laws demanding an individual show their face, his face isn't shown. After he's sure everyone knows the words, he 'limps' away always heading north, without even bothering in an attempt to Gage audience reactions.

"Sirrah I ask you please do tell,
The West-Coast is attacked,
Who benefits from this misery, who benefits from this hell?
Cordor benefits
Put two and two together and what do you get?
Cordor in the Lowlands?
Have you Figured that out yet.
Subtle Power Ploy? Not even close
Follow the trail of Cordor Coins, you'll find the Reavers boats,
For the Blood spilled of the West-Coast, thus do I intone;
WILL REST ITSELF AND SETTLE DEEP INTO CORDOR'S BONES"

Hand of Ieyrn Saylgarix continues his patrols around Wharftown...

Though as an added aside, he now adds another part to his patrol routine, stealthily scouting the area south of Wharftown, trekking down towards the delta, but not going there. He remains in hiding, observing, particularly interested in what any Cordorian scouts might be doing...

It happened all at once. Early one morning two heavy Kohlinger War Ships docked in the port of Wharftown once more. But it was not one row boat that lowered into the water to bear message. It was near half-a-dozen manned rowboats that made their way to the docks and coast of the fishing town. These boats made several trips, back and forth between the vessels. Each new trip carrying another round of supplies and men until the last trip was made and on the grounds of Wharftown stood a small battalion of Kohlingen troops.

Kohlingen's military machine began its work immediately, orders having been giving to Wharftown's militia to stay out of their way. Temporary encompments were set up for this defense force, proper blockades along the roads into the town and pallisades raised up around the perimeter. They took up positions of watch in key locations around town and while one war ship made its return trek North, a single war ship remained to maintain watch over the port.

Any confused at the show of force would be directed to a newly erected sign placed near the Slanty Shanty. A decree and announcement from the Justicar of Kohlingen

Quote:
Good Peoples of Wharftown,

By request of your Mayor, and sign of his leadership, Your city is now under the protection of the Holy City of Kohlingen. It is our task as your allies, to protect you from all threats and dangers as we are able, in duty to our Lords and to you. As a signatory to a treaty with Kohlingen, You are entitled to the protection of our Silver Dragon Army, but are not subject to our control or command of your township. Sovereignty rests solely with your Mayor and your decisions. A line we will honorably stand by and respect.

We seek to work together with one another, as equals, to ensure the protection and peace of the Western Coast of Amia, and the island in its entirety. Questions may be directed to you Mayor or the Commander of this Expeditionary Force, First Class Lieutenant LaBroad.

We wish you peace, prosperity and the warmth that comes with guidance from the Light,

Cys'tana
Justicar

There are indeed many questions and worries from the folk of Wharftown. Some that are truly fearful of being forcably annexed, some worried that the show of force might bring aggression from the Commonwealth. All are rebuffed by Mayor Garth as he pushes back, pleading with his people to convey to them the necessity of the troops and their protection. He does not speak specifics, so specific concerns are not allayed for the good people of Wharftown. There is a general feeling of unease that settles across the township, but one thing is clear, Kohlingen is there to stay.

Xaviera, who has lived in Kohlingen for many years with her wife Windiara and daughters Xina and Selina, has for the past year been seen less and less in Cordor - due, it is claimed, to failing health. However, she still, on those occasional days when she is in good form, takes ship from the Holy City to her office in the Commonwealth Centre to deal with the accumulated matters that her subordinates in the Ministry of Health and Public Welfare cannot themselves address. She further requests that she be kept advised of upcoming Council meetings via messenger at her home in Kohlingen.

The Sharessan High Priestess continues to be an outspoken advocate, both at home and in Council, of peaceful relations between the Commonwealth and the Holy City, urging both sides to act with restraint and to avoid incidents that might be perceived as expansionist. She proposes that both parties expressly affirm that their presences in Wharftown and the Lowlands Delta are temporary, and recommends that Cordor keep its forces in Guldorand and along the road through the Skull Crags to the minimum necessary to ensure the safe shipment of supplies back and forth.

If asked about the crimes of which Nevaeh Tarvencia has been accused, she states that she personally finds it difficult to believe that someone so dedicated to Cordor could do such a thing and that she is personally doubtful, noting that the Commonwealth's leaders have been deceived on several previous occasions by forces within the Commonwealth itself - even within its own bureaucracy. Still, she concedes, she has not seen the evidence or spoken to the witnesses and vows to do so in order that she might form some opinion on the matter. She dismisses claims of involvement by Harpers or Mystrans outright, saying that no such things have ever been proven and that Cordor's citizens would do better to worry about the plots of the Arcanum and underworld elements that have infiltrated the city's government, and which may even control some high-ranking officials. She refuses, though, to implicate anyone in particular, saying simply that some individuals are prone to paranoid fantasies and to making wild claims; she advises that all evidence should be scrutinized with reason, that one should not jump to conclusions, and that any actions that must be taken should be with love and forbearance foremost in mind.

She makes no official statements on these matters, however, emphasizing that her duty is to the health and welfare of the Commonwealth's citizens, and that she will act as best she can to protect these should they be jeopardized from within or without.

Kurchin in the Triumvir would be obviously, increasingly worried about developments around the isle. Still, he does what he can to aid the people of the Triumvir in their artistic pursuits. He keeps to his painting on the walls, and indeed he seems to be preparing himself for some event or events on the stage. He does continue to indulge in his culinary art, get various books donated to the library... his usual activities.

Of late though, he's a bit more stringently practicing some acrobatics on the stage floor, perhaps for a show...

Either way, he seems devoted to keep the place a bastion of joy, art, and merriment while trouble rages on the other side of the lamp...

-----------------
Saylgarix continues his patrol routine, continuing to scout the swamps south of Wharftown for any Cordorian activity...

When he's back in Wharftown, he tends to stick to patrolling the areas where the Everguard from Kohlingen are not. He overall seems to simply carry out his duties and if dealing with the people from Kohlingen, behaves in a formal and professional manner.

He does seem to share some of the people's worry about Kohlingen being there, but mostly he just keeps it to himself and carries out his duties.
