As in topic name - what's the current date/timeline of Amia module?

I just need at least an approximation, thanks.

Maybe look in the Rules and Lore forum for this stuff?

I remember this same question being asked only a couple weeks ago, too...

At the top left of the screen, where it says Amia, and below that it says when the last reset was, module version, and server IP, it would be cool if it also said the current day month year.

That's not a bad idea.

I like the idea.

Today would be the "8th of Kythorn 1381 Dale Reckoning". It would be cool if special days are added beneath, for instance Midsummer or the Holy Days of some of the more prominent deities.

It's not like we've ever kept track of something like that, though. Time moves at speed of plot, and being restricted to a certain season and weekday seems rather awkward. Especially since days and nights move at a different pace in game.

It would be pretty cool if we had scripted seasons, landscapes turning to snow in the winter etc. but that would be a huge undertaking, and it would also require changing to game clock to 1:1 with real time. 12 hours of night time. And that seems unfeasible, unfortunately. Not to mention religious celebrations would have to happen at certain days of the year, no matter RL constraints, or your characters would Fall.

It's a gimmick that breeds inconsistency, IMO.

A 1:1 ration is still used for the most part, however it's personal plots that typically are fast forwarded (like kids, etc). DMs, however, use the actual dates and all for plots and anything else in general, though, so it would be useful for the players to know. Plus, there are a number of times I have seen people use Faerun dates in IC postings, so it would be cool to be able to have the date listed for those things.

Just my thoughts on it.

There's that, or the other one I use. It would still be nifty to have it listed in the sidebar.

Well, my stance is simply this: if something is made official, it needs to be adhered to consistently, 100%. We need to pick a timezone the server is in, and represent the time of day in game. As long as people can freely go "Yeah we went there last night", it's not going to work; I will start correcting people, "don't you mean yesterday noon?" and responding to "Good day" with "The hells are you on about, the date just changed and its midnight."

I don't think that days would work for a server that has a global player base, unless the server also spanned all of Faerun (and therefore had its own time zones) and had a passage of IG time far closer to real world minutes. That doesn't seem very feasible to change to; more like something that it would have had to start with.

I think that at least the year could be added to the sidebar (does anyone really read the Wit or Wisdom anymore?) and maybe month, though! Month is a lot more flexible than a day, anyway.

The server does span extremely separated areas of Faerun. Amia island would be a few time zones off from the Frozenfar, which would be a few more zones off from Khem.

I really, really like the idea of representing the seasons and calendar in game.

I don't know about incorporating seasons and real world time IG. That's a bit much. Especially when you have people twelve time zones away being conformed to whatever norm might be for the server's base time zone, or people in other hemispheres with different seasons than what is on the server at that time. Plus, if some people only log in at certain times, then PCs are going to become night owls while others are only on during the day/afternoon/evening/etc. Doesn't seem plausible.

I don't even know if it's possible to create multiple time zones in the mod?

Also, I read Wit or Wisdom haha

A few area son B are clocked to RL weather, though not time. So there is a degree of seasons there.

Even though the FR calendar and RL calendar don't perfectly match up, I usually go by whatever number day of the month it is, and apply it to the twelve month FR calendar.

Yea, no to representing seasons and calender in game. That's stuff the DM's dictate based on events and such.

Eh, it's not like it was even possible. Even if we had the tilesets and placeables, you'd still have to make several copies of every outdoors area. Which is ridicilous. It was intended purely to point out the half-assed inconsistency of adding an official date to the sidebar: if you dictate the calendar, you'll also have to adhere to it in everything. Otherwise it's a pointless and confusing gimmick, and nothing but a source of argument and inconvenience.

"It's a bit much", like Naivatkal said. But that's what it takes if you go down the date route. If you're not going to do something right, better not do it at all.

I'm fairly sure the OP was referring to what general era (year-span) we could be considered to be in, for RP purposes, and continuing characters that need to be imported from outside of Amia.... At least that is -my- question.

Yeah that's exactly right. The link that Derk has provided has pretty much answered my question. I wasn't looking for the exact time and date, but an approximate, in order to figure out in what state are things about which i read on wikis and whatnot.
