Well we all know there are a load of interesting Places in Toril. But just what is equivelant to What in Our world?

EG Is Cormyr like France? Amia's the middle ground?
What is Chult equivilant to?
Whats neverwinter D:
ect

Then again somethings are racial like most Dwarves speak in Scott-esc Accents

It's a world of its own and we should steer clear of making such parallels, IMO. It cheapens both our world history and the setting.

It's true that TSR emphasised the real-world similarities, much moreso than Ed's original setting (or so it's said). When WotC bought the game they downplayed the parallels, thankfully. One of the things they did right.

But yeah, there are some obvious similarities:
Chult is Sub-Saharan Africa.
Moonshae is mythic Ireland.
Calimshan is probably Arabia.
Amn and Tethyr are like Al-Andalus or Aragon or something.
Rashemen resembles Siberia or Russia around the Ural, where indigenous nomads live. Or maybe the Baltic region or Finland.
Durpar is India.
Unther is Babylonia/some other Mesopotamian empire.
Mulhorand is Egypt.
Chessenta is Greece.
The Northmen around the North and the Sea of Swords/Trackless Sea (Ruathym, parts of Moonshae etc.) are vikings and the like.
There are inuits on the Great Glacier I think.

Those are the strongest resemblances. Of course, the other continents are direct rip-offs and better left untouched. You can take some inspiration like names and literary style or something from their real-world counterparts, but I'd still recommend coming up with something original. It's a fantasy world, after all. We only have the real world for reference, so there's bound to be some similarities, but you shouldn't make too much of them. Read a few books about a region, or even short descriptions, and you'll quickly get the feel for it without reducing it to some historical re-enactment.

Cormyr may have a certain French flavor to it. Ultimately though, much of the North and Heartlands is just generic medieval/renaissance Europe.

Haha you mean like Kara-Tur being China (and the parts of it that resemble Japan and Korea, I think), Maztica obviously being the Americas, and Zakhara a ripoff of the Arabian areas? XD

But yeah most of what I bother and have issues with is making names

Personally, I view Calimshan to be a mixture of the Classic Sinbad and 1001 Arabian Nights stories with Historical Sassanid Persia, Saracens and the Ottomon Turks. Like a Fantasical land of Genies, Flying Carpets and "Arabic" style people who over the past millenia or so have met, conquered and interbred with more "Western" style peoples.

With this in mind, I have always seen Tethyr, a personal favourate of mine, as being like Renaissance Spain in climate and Architecture (Due to Calishan influences), Medieval France in Culture, with a little Arthurian legend sprinkled in for good measure.

While I agree with the rest of Iron's Equivalents, I feel it should also be said that none of them are that direct (Some are much more direct then others) and they all have other influences mixed in. But such equivalents make a good starting point before you add in the mystical.

For Kara-Tur, Maztica and Zakhara, names from the real world languages of the areas they're copying fits perfectly. That's pretty much what they do in source books.
