Okay, so if I'm approached by an elf model character, and they start claiming to be a "petite human" how am I supposed to handle that? do I just roll with it? My knee-jerk snarky response is to just assume the character is a mentally troubled elf with an inferiority complex. What's the official stance on...racial ambiguity?

If they've got an elf body, they're an elf, unless their bio says otherwise and it's DM approved, or they're using elf in conjunction with an appropriate subrace, like aasimar or feytouched. Elijah, for example, is a skinny human teenager who uses the elf appearance to represent it, and has DM approval on it.

Then the others are wrong, unless they're actually playing a mentally screwed-up elf who thinks they're a human.

If they didn't bother getting a DM stamp treat them as mentally ill.
