Hey there, this is a post regarding the seemingly misguided use of what people call "IC" to allow them to pull off stupid stuff on a regular basis..ive been playing on amia for over 4 years now and ive put up with alot of what i call utter BS but this time i couldn't let something like this rest..ive made next to no complaints anywhere about anything and yet players who are Guards Eg A cordorian or wiltun guard and so on, believe that becuase they are guards they can not only Make up laws on the spot and call it IC dispite the laws not having been displayed or enforced anywhere for years (if ever at all) -Anywhere- think it's perfectly ok to do no matter what they spout out just because they got a shiney badge.

Also another amusing thing popped up recently in WIltun fortress, up until a few weeks ago i was -Never- called upon to remove my helmet or weapon / magical staff to enter the fortress, i met a Player guard there and they said "It's now being enforced" I thought to myself, ok fine that they are enforcing a law or two...but there's no -Permenant- signs anywhere displaying this...so how is someone supposed to know they are violating a law thats now being shown anywhere? The only signs ive occasionaly seen are Portable and Tempory Orange ones when a Guard player is on and when they log off the signs are either packed up or dissapear.

If theres no sign to inform you of said laws when there's no Player guards about (Which is very often) then how can anyone be expected to RP correctly in such places? I for one think it's rediculus that anyone who enters these places with guards around that they should just somehow magicly know everything (including the laws if there are any) when they pass through the gates..particually for any new players to the server.

One last thing, i encounted two wiltun player guards in the wiltun fortress today that said to one of my chars "Oh were you thinking of going to the desert via the portal above?" My char replied "Yes" and one of the guards said "It's been removed by the Jarl for security reasons" I thought oh well that sucks...so i went back to Amia A to go around the other way in Guldulond or whatever it's called to get there and found the portal in Khem still leading to Wiltun...i thought that the portal would simply send me no where but it still works...i used it and was suddenly above those 2 player guards who were in the courtyard and i sent a tell to the one who informed me it was gone and said to him "it's still here"... he replied "It's gone Icly so the guards would toss you off the tower right about now" How can you proclaim such changes without them having been implemented? And if thats the case why wasnt he blocking the doors to the portal so no one could use it until it's actually been removed from the module instead of just standing in the courtyard and saying it's not there....seems totally illogical and stupid to me, praticually when other players just kept using it as normal while all this was happening. XD

Ok im done with the lecture post now, i hope ive made some of you see some reason and perhaps even given you a more clearer perspective about why IC means IC and not just whatever someone wishes was IC (Magical worlds doesn't mean you lose your logical senses)...also im not sure if this should've been in a post to a DM or in improving amia threads but if so sorry about that and i'll gladly repost this to there if asked by a dm.

I would delete/edit this post away quickly, because it isn't doing any favors for your issue. The DMs will handle it if your truly being abused, provided you bring attention to it in a PM. As for your issue, people are allowed to play tyrannical characters. Sometimes playing on Amia will require you to bite your lip, and take something off the chin no matter how much it irks you OOCly, because thats what being a mature player is all about.

Did you know that sometimes people in authority give their guards exactly that amount of leeway because it is necessary to keep normally unruly and anti-authoritarian adventurers in line? And that it is totally IC?

I'll leave it at that, because everyone else is about to tell you why you shouldn't have made this post and what you should have done instead. I'll just get that tidbit in before a lock so that I don't look like a douche for posting afterwards.

sorry.. I read this and I laugh... keep an eye on the forums and you will notice when laws change and IC things happen... and you can't expect the DMs to jump at every IC change when something gets updated it does. Just like when the monolith was still there but wasn't and the triumvir as well. I hold no sympathy for someone who refuses to learn about changes and then gets pissed because they didn't take the time... it's not our fault you didn't bother to check.

Issue? PM it to one of us with red names here on the forums. We're here to help. Public forums are not the place for this sort of specific incident stuff. Otherwise to answer your complaint, the Jarl's laws aren't posted and haven't been outside of the Wardens who do it as a courtesy as it is not required of them. Them enforcing the law is completely IC.
