Today I was asked on why it's appropriate to tell people to remove a summon that is within a hunting grounds. I of course explained that it's evil but the person on the other end was rather annoyed with such a shoddy answer and I would've stayed to speak on it more but I was naff on time the schedule. Here's the situation: 1 Ice Gelugon, devil, evil 1 Chaotic Good sun elf, weapon master What do you think the outcome would come out as? I'm rather happy I simply told them to remove it vocally than having to PvP it out instead. Would anyone else's character reacted differently to this? I am more than curious since it's something I don't want to keep on doing, going into hunting grounds and barking at people to remove summons and would care for some feedback on better options.

Hunting is not OOC. It is entirely appropriate as a good aligned character, to order an evil being such as a devil to be dismissed. The reverse is also true. Most obviously evil types shouldn't be comfortable with a celestial nearby, for example, as if it "slipped it's leash" so to speak, it's first act would likely be to skewer them.
Also, keep in mind, that divine classes can and will be fallen if they're seen hunting with inappropriate summons. While that's usually more applied to good alignments over evil, it can happen to anyone if we deem it appropriate.

Speaking of the summons, I've been meaning to ask, what's the Amia RP on deciding what summon you get? Is it some quirk of the Amia Canon that you get a summon appropriate to your alignment, or is it something decided by the caster? To be frank I can't imagine most canny evil casters would choose to run around with a being that advertises their evil intent.

(Mind, that is only my opinion) No celestial or any other good creature would follow someone who is obviously evil or carries evil in heir hearts, so to speak. So they are stuck with the evil summons cause no one else wants to be around them.

To be frank I can't imagine most canny evil casters would choose to run around with a being that advertises their evil intent. In PnP, a divine caster can't cast something of an opposed alignment. Period. Summoning spell is an alignment/element spell. If you summon an Evil creature, it's an Evil descriptor spell. If you summon a water elemental, it's a Water descriptor spell. If you summon a Lawful creature, it's a Lawful descriptor spell. Having that said, the list of PnP monsters you can summon are fairly black and white. Aside from one or two monsters per spell level (If at that), most creatures are either Evil or Good. So as an evil divine caster, you really don't have an option but to summon an evil creature either way. The DMs can chime in on the Amian lore, but that's how it works in PnP. Arcane casters have a choice to summon creatures out of their alignment, but since DMs monitor every single action done by the PCs, including every single spell being cast, it's a very different story from how PnP works and how NWN works.

I was mostly referring to arcane casters anyway.

Tomato puts it succintly. A Magician (or Magi, Mage or what have you) Can choose creatures of different alignments, but that would likely have an influence depending on the situation.

I am pretty sure that if you have a good IC reason you could reskin a summon to an out of alignment summon. Ultimately I would say, evil casters might be more comfortable to summon a devil or demon or other creature of evil intend as themselves to work with. A good aligned Mage likely usually feels more comfortable to summon a goodly creature as an ally in combat. That is the standard and common preference and hence the -default- summon you get. DC requests are always good options for the exception.
