I have a small question about writing books and how to not cross the line of "homebrew".

I always liked how chars add their own 2cents to the Lore in a way it never really argued with the rules so thought of doing something similiar.

Through RP my character had to investigate the Stockholm syndrome and since Stockholm doesn't exist in FR I (as a player) converted it to

see here: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=63428

I always liked the Libraries of Amia forum and think it's a great way to discover stuff ICly without having to reach for the books or ask uncle Google for the answers. I was thinking of doing the same things, compiling a list of common mental and physical disabilities and diseases and should they be, like "stockholm", a bit out of place to give them an FR twist.

I was wondering how far that's allowable, wouldn't want to suddenly have a DM on my ass for makign up my own Lore (without permission).

I think you should revisit an old topic I started and do your work there.

But what does this have to do with writing books? I'm failing to make the connection.

Oh which topic is that?

Just the fact that to make up the stockholm syndrome in FR i took parts of how it was discovered in real life and remade it to something that might have happened in Suzail during the epidemy. I understand that whatever's written ICly doesn't have to be considered the truth at all... all I'm saying is I wouldn't want to get all workep up about it, put effort into it only to hear that what I'm doing somehow breaks some or other rule.

The library forum isn't for lore purposes in the slightest; it’s quite the contrary... From what I understand, character bias, misinformation, and a lacking perspective is encouraged while making character written works. Just, the real doctors following the FR canon lore at the Salandrans are going to whack you eventually!

Well, you have a specific example and an over-arcing question.

On the specific:

Stockholm Syndrome is a real psychological disorder that existed for as long as humans have been blessed (or evolved far enough, depending on your particular beliefs) with cognizant thought. It was only after the Stockholm incident that it was isolated and diagnosed, however it has always existed. As such, there's no real problem that I can see with an IC treatise on a possible diagnosis of such a psychological disorder, save for the complete lack of modern psychological study, that is. :D So, personally, I'd advise steering away from phrases such as "paradoxical psychological phenomenon"... since psychology wasn't created or even thought of in the FR. All ailments, even psychological, were thought to result of ailments to the body or just plain insanity. Remember, Aristotle and Plato touched on psychology pre-Dark Ages, but then there were no real advances until around 1159 with John of Salisbury's The Metalogican. But... I digress....

On the broader question:

Misinformation is a very real part of society... both ancient and modern. So, I don't really have too much of a problem with that, either.

The library is pretty much free. You're meant to write from your PC's perspective and remain IC at all times. So no copy paste stuff from lore books. That doesn't fly. It's all your PC in it's own words with it's own perspective and bias.
