As a precursor to the actual meat of the issue, I point out that no this is not my issue, but I have my reasons and was asked very politely by a new player I'm trying to help out, as well I'm still relatively new myself and am not even sure if this is the right place in the forum, so I'm sorry in advance if this is wildly inappropriate.

Alright, so... Lately I've been adventuring with a new player I recruited who's been on Amia about three days, tops.

Through astounding dedication he's managed to get to level 10 in that short amount of time playing a monk dedicated to Shar (to protect the character's identity both in and out of character I'm posting this, not him, I consider it appropriate for a Shar cultist to be overly secretive, I guess? Again I apologise if this is inappropriate), so we trekked our way up to the Crouching Lemur Monastery and he went to the Meeting Place to see about formally joining the Order of the Dark Moon.

He talks to the NPC in the meeting ground which is where I always understood you went to sign up to specific monk orders, but I have never played a monk up to level 10+ so I'm not sure how those work: The NPC only gave information about the order itself which he wants to join and an informed notice of "((you are given IC information saying you get a monk kit at levels 10 and 15))", so I'm not sure if this even falls under the "Ask about things in character" rules.

So our question there is: Is this NPC just there to distribute information, or does he actually give out the monk kits in which case he's bugged?

He distributes the kits and the information and he's not bugged AFAIK. The following conditions must be met to receive one:

1) Monk Level
2) Character Level - which is higher than the monk level required.
3) Gold - There is an actual cost for the kit which the PC must pay to the NPC.

You probably haven't met one or more of the conditions. There is only one kit per Order and be advised some of the gear is level restricted and you can acquire it before you are able to mechanically wear it.

The kits are also allegedly poop, but I have never tried them out myself.

Actually, I played a multiclass monk/ftr/Sd and by the time I had the character levels to get the kit ( around 17-18 from what I remember) , out of the 3-4 items provided ( not too sure how many there are, it's been a while ...) I have to say at least two of them where useful and actually better than what I already had.

I'd say you get what you pay for, they're useful yes ( not going to go into the details as it's IC info).

Just don't expect to get "blown away" by their uber awesomeness, as it's not the case.

Buuut! In an IC perspective, it's really neat to have a whole set with your order's theme!

they are more of an IC thing than really usefull. I'd wait till you are max level before I'd burn that 200k or whatever it was on it. There are more usefully things you can buy at that level with the gold. Then again 200k is nothing now, back when I had my monk it took a while to get 200k.

It's because they suck, and do not really compare to stuff you can get at, say, the Brog' monastery.

Perhaps they could be upgraded some time?

Lot of stuff has been re-done... like the lootdrops.

Maybe Mosh wants to give the monk-kits some love one day?

These are mid level to low epic kits and some of the kits are better than others as they have different attributes. Unlike a merchant, you will not know what attributes they have until you buy the kit. You can only buy one kit, obviously. If it's unsuitable for you as an adventuring kit, then you basically bought an outfit you will wear ceremonially only. Since gloves and boots do not show up on your character from an appearance standpoint that means the robe. The kits are marked plot and cannot be altered (mythally), dropped, exchanged, sold, or trashed. You cannot even put them in the barter window. Not sure if the robe can be crafted for color/appearance.

It's been suggested previously that the kits be modified to to be more appropriate to the end game with modified character requirements towards a HIGH level of dedication to the Order. It's a matter of Dev priorities really as some may consider the situation to be fine as-is and not worth the effort to modify them or well behind other development plans already in place in terms of importance.

I believe the important question would be how used they currently are?

If they are 300k each and are just mid-level value ... then it sound pretty crappy. I mean, mid-level gear is worth about that but not many chars have 300k to immediately sink into a kit that may or not be worth it. I know my mid-level times have not have a spare 300k sitting around for the most part (my cleric did, but she was a special case because she always ran with the same people and she was a buffer/healer so she didn't worry about gear lol, had 400k by level 14).

But, then, I've never bought them. I have know about them for some time, but never bought them (again, because of lack of funds).

With my monk, there is at least one item I still used at final level.

It's a little exciting to discover it when you purchase it. And no, I wouldn't say they're crap.

It's more of a "Hey...! Oh, neat...!" thing than "Woooow!" though.

( compared say, to all the Epic Mummy Dust summons where the two I've used with my chars where quite frankly very strong, and suddenly it's a whole new world where you just have to buff them and watch from around lvls 21-26.... )

They weren't bad, we've just upped the power level and introduced new items since then.

Indeed, the gear level has been adjusted a few times since the kits were created. Also the mythal system got in and change a lot about the basic gear... some got added and some removed to balance it all out.

Perhaps they can be adjusted aswell one day. Understandably this likely isn't on the top priority list. It still would be quite nice.

Is there epic monk robes in the loot bin? Be a nice addition if there wasn't, something along the lines robes of the old order master / sun soul master etc. Would be fitting

The epic +5 robes are probably good enough. Anything more would be imba, and if you don't like those, the +2 +2 stuff in Brog is pretty damn good. Otherwise, Maskarran Regalia.

I know nothing of the balancing issues, i just ask as it gives more choices to a monk when a most other classes get plenty of epic armour to choose from making everyone seem that bit more individual.

Why should monks be singled out? They already have a bunch of stuff that is on par with epic gear, while other classes must use the same equipment from the same lootbin.

I'm just saying it would be nice to see some as an epic drop, i'm not saying something better than the robes you can buy in Brog at an early level but maybe something different, my monk hasn't changed robes since he got them and most likely never will.

Wut? See vendor stuff as epic drops? That would entice much rage.

These are available from vendors already, no need to put them in loot drops.

It doesn't matter how many there are currently in-game. Play your monk. No robes already in-game for your monks order? Visit the Request forum.
