Alright I read through the faction pages several times and I cant seem to find my answer, I have asked several people and a few dms and everyone seems to give me a diffrent answer, How many members are required as a minimum for a faction.
So far I was told 8, 10 (which was what I thought it had always been) and now 12 -.-"

How many pupils do you need for a school? My answer is none, but to get it functional, it depends. Just make the faction and try to get people interested.

The answer is 42 but I've forgotten the question.

Does it matter how many people are in your faction as long as they're all having fun? That said, I don't think there's really that much holding anyone back from calling them and their two other friends a 'faction'. There's no 'faction' based mechanics, like Guild Wars or something. Perhaps what you're asking is how many you need for forums for a faction?

It's ten. It's not in the faction thread in Rules and Lore, but that's the accepted minimum, last I knew (And I just established my faction!)

I heard there is no official minimum because then when people hit that minimum they wave it around like they own the place to get a faction area and forums and feel entitled to it without needing to work for it.

That is the minimum, but people can't just wave it around because all of the other requirements and directions listed in here still apply, regardless of whether you have the minimum or not.

Not trying to give a contradictory answer, but it also depends largely on the activity, quality rp and added value those members bring. In other words, fewer might be needed if the members were very active and brought a significant contribution to the game, where as more would be needed if they were not very active.
This is probably why you've received different answers.

This is probably why you've received different answers. This, there is nothing special about 10 members in general.

That and the DM whose observing your Role Play.
If the Underdark DM says 12, then the minimum's 12 in the Underdark. If the Cordor DM says 8 for the Guard, then 8 it is and so on.
