Il'haress Tinnerai sat at her meeting table going over recent events in Edonil with Calle of Ussen d'vhid, and two jalilen of qu'ellar Tinnerai, when a guard tapped on her office door.
"Come!" she called.
Bowing the guard says,
"Malla Il'haress, Yath'taller Velve Qos'Yutsu is here to see you."She waved for the guard to show the yath'taller in, and curtly dismissed the other jalilen. Standing from her chair the il'haress nodded respectfully,
"Yath'taller, a pleasure to see you. I was about to come and find you at the temple." The two sat and the il'haress picked up a heavy bag that was slightly moving, sitting it on the table between them.
Yath'taller Velve looked at the bag and asked curtly,
"Did you do any research on the vipers, before you made your choice?"Standing from her chair the il'haress's lips spread into a wicked grin.
"Xas, Malla Yath'taller..." Sweeping her hands over the bag, Maral sent a small sound burst into the knot of vipers, and they all became still. She opened the bag, and pulling one at random she inspected it with care.
"Ahhh.. this black cobra here is called an Hemachatus... it can spit venom with no need to bite... " She replaces the viper and grabs another, this one is gold.
"This beauty...is a Paranaja... lovely name, nau? ...It likes to burrow... particularly lovely for torture." Maral places the gold cobra back into the bag and looks to Velve's face to see if she requires any further proof of the research. Only when the yath'taller nods does Maral lovingly close the bag.
The Yath'taller stands, and erects an altar to Lolth, blesses the ritual, and gives Maral extremely detailed instructions ending with,
"If more than two of the serpents die, then you fail! Do you understand?"Maral casually nods her understanding and begins following the steps exactly as she has been told. Calling on Lolth's divine magic, and divine favor to seal the work in the Valsharess' name.
When each serpent has been attached as instructed, Maral calls on Divine Favor to decide her fate. To her joy, and the yath'taller's mild surprise, four of the five serpents live! As the fifth begins to weaken and droup, before the light is completely gone from its eyes, the other four twist, hiss and strike, within seconds the weak viper has been devoured. The four remaining vipers curl around Maral's arm seeming satisfied with their meal.
