I'm curious, as I've been reading the modified summons page, because drow are +2 ECL and can only reach level 28, does that mean they can never be eligible to receive a Winterwight? Or is ECL counted into the equation?
Thanks for any response :3 !

I believe this question's been asked before and if memory serves, the answer is "no". Drow cannot receive the Winterwight summon.

If you're playing a wizard, the world is your playground. >:D
Don't feel confined by necromantic class perks, especially from a palemaster. Your only confinement is your effort put forward. Just take a look at some of the requests from various necromancers- They're stunning and provocative.
Go fight win.

I hope to god that no one choose blackguard because of the charisma bonus saves and that people didn't chose Red dragon disciple to get a str bonus.. but then again I am a naive twit with too much faith in the player-base.

I love roleplaying, but I also like levelling up and getting cool abilities. I try my best to have fun with everyone, regardless of whether they wanna' roleplay or just go kill stuff. Thing is, the Winterwight is like the final thing Palemasters get - a reward for going all wizardy instead of going for something like Bard / Palemaster. Consider the following cake: Which slice looks least appealing?

Well, seeing how much I hate whipped cream, the missing piece actually looks most appealing to me.
Meaning, tastes are different.
Further meaning: For you the wight is the highest bonus for beeing a palemaster, hence you rather play a different race than a PM without the ability to get a wight. For someone else, the biggest bonus might be to play a drow PM because he loves the race and the class or because it fits a cool background story he had in mind. And the later person then likely value beeing a PM drow without a wight higher than beeing another race with one.
So all in all... each his own but non is generally better or worse than the other. It's just a matter of priorities. A PM without a wight is not by default a lesser PM or a PM "missing something".

the fourth one from the missing piece to the right. It's the biggest, and has the most chocolate flakes on it.

Kraniumbrud wrote: no its not, classes are rp tools, not a mathematical power equation variables, if you want to play a palemaster you should do it because you find it interesting By this statement, we should all be pure Fighters acting out concepts as performance art. I find it reasonable that someone would be curious and desiring certain experiences in their gameplay to plan responsibly for that. I'll admit I find it rather shortsighted that arguably the biggest 'big bad' race in the genre makes inferior 'big evil class' guys vs vanilla bland race variants, especially when the drow have basically institutionalized necromancy openly, and thus would most likely have the most open and advanced theories on such things in their academies. Maybe it's reasonable to damp down the WW reqs by 2 levels on a lore-based reasoning for drow. I honestly don't see a reason why a drow would not reach the pinnacle of palemaster vs a surface elf... who grows up largely fumbling around alone, ostracized by their race, with no support or proper teaching, etc.

Anyway, speaking of drow, has anyone noticed the default start location is the middle of nowhere near a city that's flooded? Shouldn't the default starting location just be the other location listed?
I mean, I don't even know how to get to that place. I think it's called underport? Well the boats don't take me there, I don't particularly want to run around the surface looking for it and most of the paths have swarms of bats that are pretty hard at level 2. I'm just going to remake my character and choose underport instead :/

And to Moth's argument, this has been brought for in the Improving Amia section rather recently. You might want to pick up that thread again. http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61385&hilit=drow+starting+pointOooh, it says I can start on B? I guess I'll try that then ^^ Thanks!

Oh yes! Starting the underworld adventure in B is the way to go. they have all the nice starter quests. And apparently the starting point is under DM discussion (or has been decided to remain as it is).

I'll just point out that it's nobody's business (except maybe the DMs' and even then, only in out-of-the-ordinary cases) what motives another player has for creating their PC. The discussion should remain purely informative, or in a spirit of friendly brainstorming. Personally, I don't understand how you could seperate class mechanics and character motivation from eachother. A person doesn't want to become a Pale Master because of the aesthetic qualities of the vocation. They'll probably do it for the mastery over death, culminating in the ability to control a powerful winterwight to serve your needs. If you know no drow has ever been able to call upon one and that human Pale Masters have always been more powerful, that's a pretty strong IC reason not to be interested. (Of course, it might be equally plausible and interesting to play one who is nonetheless determined to push the envolope and overcome such limitations, but that's hardly the first and best conclusion.)
Like Hackums said, you can request some pretty cool things if you have the Dream Coins, so drow ECL adjustment doesn't have to deter you from playing the class if you really want to. Up to you and your imagination, I guess.

Consider the following cake: Which slice looks least appealing? The cake is a lie. Repeat until you understand...the cake is a lie... I'm all for Powerbuilds and yeah, I see the attraction to them...best, brightest, let me stomp you in PvP and PvE goodness... Ah...might I add that it also becomes rather BORING when you hit your max level and three week to a month down the road...hunting bosses for epic loot....is the only real draw...or you go out to PvP and because there is little RP history...you can't because of the server rules and nobody else "wants to play". RP > PB Any day of the week ending in "day" to me.... So you can't get a Winterwight...go a full 10 levels of PM, 18 levels of your caster class...no epic anything and enjoy the goodness of having all the drow stuff PLUS all the PM stuff and rest easy that you have damn near a bullet proof character...between the Drow SR and the PM stopping Crits and sneaks backed by all that level 9 spellage down plus gear? Yeah...not much is going to stand against you in PvE and not many will want to in PvP...even without HellBall and crap.... HellBall and Greater Ruin are great....they are fun...they make me drink a Heal potion....now then, I got 9 more heal potions (half power granted but I can heal more)...how many more epic spellage you got? Just saying, people are not AIs. They adapt, they overcome, they change their tactics to counter yours in combat. They do it in RP also and its ALOT more fun and varied in RP... All this is my opinions and views...your will most likely be different...your mileage my vary... I say GO FOR IT, regardless of getting the Winterwight...but that is me.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm confused on something.
32nd – 33rd CL: Winterwight (A very powerful summon with evil blight claws)
Uhhh... if CL means Caster Level... how can anyone get over 30 CL? Or am I just misunderstanding things?

Uhhh... if CL means Caster Level... how can anyone get over 30 CL? Or am I just misunderstanding things? Read the Summons sidebar. Quote: Palemaster: Animate Dead Spell-like Ability [Duration: 24 hours]
• 1st – 8thCL: Mohrg
• 8th – 14th CL: Wraith
• 15th + CL: Dread Wraith
• The Palemaster gains a bonus +1 to CL when using her spell-like ability.
• The summoned undead gains +2 to Turn Resistance. Quote: Palemaster: Summon Undead Spell-like Ability [Duration: 1 Hour / CL]
• 1st – 8thCL: Mohrg
• 9th – 14th CL: Wraith
• 15th – 19th CL: Dread Wraith
• 20th – 23rd CL: Wight
• 24th – 27th CL: Mummy
• 28th + CL: Greater Mummy
The Palemaster gains a bonus +2 to CL when using her spell-like ability.
The summoned undead gains +4 to Turn Resistance. Quote: Palemaster: Summon Greater Undead Spell-like Ability [Duration: 1 Hour / CL]
• 1st – 8thCL: Mohrg
• 9th – 14th CL: Wraith
• 15th – 19th CL: Dread Wraith
• 20th – 23rd CL: Wight
• 24th – 27th CL: Mummy
• 28th – 31st CL: Greater Mummy
• 32nd – 33rd CL: Winterwight (A very powerful summon with evil blight claws)
The Palemaster gains a bonus +3 to CL when using her spell-like ability.
The summoned undead gains +6 to Turn Resistance. Note the "The Palemaster gains a bonus +X to CL" part. I don't know why it's done cryptically like that, possibly because they use/used to use the same summoning table as the actual spells and PMs should get their stuff earlier and reach the Winterwight level inaccessible to other classes. No idea. But that's the math, regardless.

Think I'll make a tiefling instead. Tieflings are way super fun times ^^;
My original intent was to make a drow character with the slyness of a tiefling but I'm not entirely sure if that'd work all too well anyway soo maybe it's for the best.

Yuck, some people really do strike me as vile on this forum sometimes. Question is answered, probably best to use the build thread next time. Good luck with your character!
