I'm not saying there is a shortage of straight male characters per se, just that when they come back on the market they get snapped up in a heartbeat. Either that, or they just don't seem inclined toward starting anything.

I'd start romance rp's if some women would be more acceptable. In my experience, every woman is either lesbian or a cold frigid. Heck that could even make me concentrate on one character more.

But she has to be right...same for all my other characters. I think Romance RP can open a WORLD of RP opportunities if you can avoid the pitfalls. But its very hard to work IG I think... I mean, realistically...here are the ground rules.... 1) You both need to be within 5 levels to hunt. 2) You both need to play around the same time in RL 3) You both need to play the character as at least one of your 'mains' if not THE main. 4) You have to 'work' as a couple or whatever. 5) You have to avoid the pitfalls. Most women I have met, at least 4 out of 5, are either bi-sexual/gay and have a female partner already, make Nanook of the far frozen north look like a hot steaming tropical sauna in the jungle in comparison to how frigid they are or are already 'taken'. The 1 in 5 that are around that don't fall into this mold rarely are a fit....either they have no interest in one of my characters or no interest in romance at all. Maybe I am an oddball but, I don't just play my characters out of convenience. I don't just suddenly 'fall in love' or 'fall in lust' nor do I create a character just to have an online RP relationship. Should it come along, fantastic and I welcome it. It can add a whole other level of RP and I ain't talking sexual...I mean just the lovely tangled webs that come from it...from kidnappings to dealing with your partners drama with others or even the drama between the two of you. Adding KIDS into the mix and...there ya go.... I mean...seriously...let me ask this...how many characters are already saddled with kids IG from a PREVIOUS relationship? Don't have to be "we split up" it could and more likely would be 'my sig other is dead'... I could really see something like one player is the parent, one the kid (or several others kids) and then they go about looking for a new mommy/daddy...that would be a kinda fun (in a sad way also) RP.... What paladin could resist little Jimmy or Susie gazing up at them going..."Will you be my new mommy/daddy? My mommy/daddy is so alone and I miss them so much when they leave us to go look for bad things that killed my mommy/daddy. I worry they will not come back." You want to talk RP possibilities? heh

I'm a female and my main character is bisexual. I have two straight female alts and one gay male that I haven't played in a long time.
Relationship or no, sexual orientation is such a big part of life in general that I find it important to establish, even if the character is asexual.

I don't even know what to say to that. Haha, you're talking more about OOC relationships than IC ones >_> RP is RP is RP, at least to me... That tangent is a whole different topic entirely. Maybe I just read it wrong, who knows. Nah, being within 5 levels to hunt is just practical as outside that you get no loot or gold. Playing around the same time in RL means you can actually RP...if you are 12 hours apart, kinda hard to have a real RP because you dont see one another much. Not being the mains means either of you or both of you end up wandering off and giving the RP relationship little of your real time and again, the RP suffers. "working" as a couple means that you have to share at least passable interests. A female Lovitar Priestess and a Holy Paladin of Tyr probably wont work well....while a paladin of Illmater might be perfect in an odd way...there has to be some basis for the attaction that makes sense to me. My point is this.... For MY characters to have an RP relationship...I know what THEY want in a partner. I know what each of them looks for in a potential partner and unless one comes along...I don't feel I am being true to the character to simply have a relationship simply to say I have one or to show off or otherwise 'shock' others. This is me.../shrug. My RP relationships are intense things because, to me, having a pair (or more) of adventuring people being in love (one of the most powerful if not THE most powerful of emotions) should be exactly that. I mean where in the world is the fun of say...a shadowy mage, focused on honor and power, falling in love with a Sunite bard madly, having her be equally in love with him....the story developing as they climb in power until she is a world renown performer and he is a very much feared and untrusted by the populace but trusted fully by those in power magi...only to have their beliefs finally tear them apart (one being LN and one being CG) and going...... Eh...yeah, its over...yawn...I can get another one now...so what...oh hey...THAT one looks good...Hey...Hey BAAABYYYY...lets get married and have kids! What? That bard I was with...nah...she left me but so what...we can have it all.....(or Who, him? Nah, you don't have to worry about that uber powerful necro looking full plate wearing, scythe wielding possibly Palemaster baby....you're my STRONG MAN and he dont care....)... For me...this is it...the mage is wounded deeper then ever before and seeing this, another evil woman comes in, seducing the weakened mage and pulls him into the darkness he has been fighting against because his former love couldn't stand to see him go evil. The women end up fighting one another and, torn between the woman that left him because she could no longer face what he was becoming and the woman that gives him all he wants in exchange for having a very powerful wizard under her thumb more or less he is forced to choose...or so people think...instead...he simply grabs his new love, portaling her away to what he thinks is safety. Only to appear alone at the bind point.... Running back to see what has become of her...he find the group that assailed her while defending the bard but no new lover to be seen...they protest their innocence...and rightly so...for unbeknownest to the magi...his new lover has hidden and fled out of fear for her life... The magi spends several weeks searching for her...all the time letting the hate and rage build within him....how dare this woman that left him now take one that wants him....but...he still has feelings for her...and there is no proof.... Others see his torment...some fear his power...others fear he will harm himself....finally, the bard comes with her new lover....a paladin and his best friend...the only paladin he does not openly have disdain for....to comfort him.... Seeing them together, seeing them holding hands....being affectionate....it too much...his sanity snaps...and he unleashes all his power on them....its frightening.... Timestops...Greater Missle Swarms...Balor Lords being summoned...Bigby's unleashed...the bard falls in the first wave of the assault...the paladin pulls his blade only to be grasped and pummeled....the mage has won! As he closes to burn their corpses to ash...the mentor of the paladin comes by...totally out of chance and sees the magi...one he has long feared and hated for...Black Magi killed his own father...he knows the man to be powerful and deadly... The magi turns and unleashed more hell....but the paladin has managed to close and fells him by the narrowest of margins.... Later...the magi awakens...chained to a wall, gagged...the paladin has him in his own private cell in the paladin's own dungeon...the magi is quite mad...insane... But the paladin can't bring himself to destroy the man...for he has come to also respect him...and knows the pain and struggle this magi has endured...no...however long it will take....this one will be cured of his dementia. This was a real RP story that unfolded because of a simple...RP relationship...over the span of 9 months of real time....the tale spun on after this...with 3 more months of epic stories... In the end...the magi and his new love married, and left the city for good. The paladin gave the magi a way to maintain his focus, and in the end, the two men parted, not as friends or enemies...but as two men that understood two simple things. 1) Each had a woman they loved and who loved them back for what they were. Even though they wanted them to be more then that. 2) Each had more in common then either ever would want to admit to yet, in the unspoken bond of shared suffering, neither had need to speak it. THAT...to me...is the hope of a "relationship RP"....that in the end...the characters bring to the server an almost blockbuster movie quality. That all those that are part of the tale of the pair, or group, are simply caught up into their tale... yeah...corny...over the top...ludicris....but....I can tell you....the ride is ooo la la....

Azure Luna...oh god then you will have Craigslist prositutes And then I sooooooo gotta make a Sharran thats the Craigslist killer

On the internet, 95% of all female lesbian/bi characters are made by male players. That's just how it is. Amd hell no if I let my characters get anywhere near IG romances. They are frustrating enough in RL, so I see no need to bring them into my escapism.

Well, Mith has mostly always been with one woman at a time, mostly because most elven females are played by humans whom don't sit well with the idea of none monogamous relations. Doesn't really bother me to much. Zanitous on the other hand has had a number of relations going at the same time, being a Drow and all, id hardly consider them 'Relationships' but he has been around a fair bit. Though he would, as a char, likely be open to male male, i have no interest in RPing a romantic encounter with a male as i fear it would give me a horrible head ache.
Edit: Not that head, shut your mouth Derk!

I am open to and allowed some players to try to open a relationship with my main... but it comes with a warning...

The only relationships my characters seem to be able to maintain are the time-honored love affairs with Slaughter, Mayhem, & Bloodshed...and I'm not talking about members of HoA. Although, I may make a character and try getting into HoA under the guise of 'General Nastiness'...

A truly successful monogamous romantic relationship in a game like this can be epic-- because it is so rare. I don't care if it's M/F, F/F, M/M, or a druid and his best animal friend.
My ideal in this arena has much more to do with teamwork and compatibility than anything "social-server-y." ...Two characters who are really a good mesh and work together to further in game goals can be a beautiful thing. Heck, even if it's just a friendship and not a romance, this is a beautiful thing.
But then, I've always been an optimist, and like to strive for cooperation and partnership to attain goals (go go Libra-rising). If you've really got a good partner (friend or more than), you can accomplish more as 2 than 1. But it's so rare in this kind of game that I think I might get shouted down here, LOL.

I normally don't bother with rp romances, but on the few occasions when they have happened, it's always been with characters that are most ill suited for it.

Tuomas has absolutely no IC inclination towards relationships of that nature. Period.

I'm pretty sure I said this earlier in the thread or somewhere else, but I'll say it again for emphasis. PC relationships can be great things so long as they are part of the story, not -the- story.
