I wished to ask DM's if it would be alright ICly for my character, Esteban Calliente, a human bard, to be rped as working there as a waiter.
The basic concept would be using the Town Crier job to attract customers, then, my character could be RPed as serving them, with the extra of being able to sing a tune, tell a tale, a joke or two, entertain the diners, basically.
This IC arrangement, I believe, would create a win-win situation I believe.
1- It would allow my character to be known moreso ICly which is never a bad thing for a bard. Could also make some tips.
2- It could attract some of the bored "stand around in Cordor/Amia Forest/Wiltun, "light passive RP" crowd that tend to giggle and comment and joke around ICly ( no offense, I do that too sometimes) to a different place, would encourage Roleplaying.
3- The restaurant is great and has awesome RP potential! It's very underused, compared to other less interesting areas with no food and drinks which somehow attract crowds, nonetheless.
Your thoughts?

Going this route I recommend to look at the topic on Cordor Citizeenship as well be mindfold of the topic Cordor Serious Mode. Also with that said sounds interesting

Does that mean every single citizen has passed the examination? What I mean by that is, say people born in Cordor, when they turn eighteen are they kicked out of they fail their exam? I don't quite get the concept. Do you need to be a citizen to be allowed to work in Cordor? In any case, what answers I won't get here I suppose my char can learn about icly. Just seems to be alot to know ICLY for a simple "waiter" .... As for Cordor serious mode, thank you for the advice and i've read them. Not nervous the least considering the RP route I wish to be heading. That said ... I hope he won't be publically hanged if he messes up an order!

Just seems to be alot to know ICLY for a simple "waiter" .... Everyone born and raised in Cordor is naturally considered a citizen of Cordor. However to claim such a character it might be best to discuss this with Yossarin as he seems to be the main cordor mover. You do not need to be a citizen to work in Cordor but it would be highly encouraged to become one, given the current anti-adventurer feelings. Also the reason why you should consider becoming a citizen is, I think, purely that it will open up a lot of RP. You need to do a bit of asking or looking around to find the information they ask about in the exam. So you will meet some of the prominent Cordorians. Furthermore you will be able to vote: hoozah!

psycho wrote: Does that mean every single citizen has passed the examination? By definition of "citizen", then yes. Quote: What I mean by that is, say people born in Cordor, when they turn eighteen are they kicked out of they fail their exam? No. When the citizenship application process began, all peoples, including people who had thought themselves citizens forever (NPCs) were forced to take the exam. The vast majority of them passed. Those who did not were not kicked out, but they don't have certain rights that titled citizens do. Good luck actually finding out what those rights are, because they're not comprehensively spelled out anywhere, just pointed out every now and again in specific cases. Quote: I don't quite get the concept. You would if you apply a simple, logical thought process that accounts for the shady character of humanity in general. Quote: Do you need to be a citizen to be allowed to work in Cordor? Depends upon the job. Quote: In any case, what answers I won't get here I suppose my char can learn about icly. That's a good way to look at it. Quote: Just seems to be alot to know ICLY for a simple "waiter" .... Not really, since I am right now officially declaring you can play a waiter at the Okappa Otama if you want to, but if I or any other DM hears you're fucking up, you'll get fired. The proprietor is himself a foreigner without his citizenship (gasp!) and he has what folks in the Bureau of the Census call a "bad habit" of hiring non-citizens. It isn't illegal to hire non-citizens, but it is frowned upon because those jobs ought to be going to citizens. Of course, there's a reason they don't - non-citizens have no rights and therefore can't take any litigious action against their employers and do not receive any work compensation/health benefits vis a vis the Ministry of Health and Public Welfare. The Ministry of Labor has pushed a "minimum wage" at which citizens can be employed, but non-citizens can be paid far less than that - in fact, they can work as "serfs", effectively, and it is entirely legal. In a roundabout way, Maximillian's fierce striation between "citizen" and "non-citizen" in a heavily mercantile city has led right into wholesale exploitation of the non-citizen. Quote: As for Cordor serious mode, thank you for the advice and i've read them. Not nervous the least considering the RP route I wish to be heading. Wasn't intended to make you nervous, just make you aware. Quote: That said ... I hope he won't be publically hanged if he messes up an order! Not likely. But if some Noble's Army terrorist poisons the food of a Minister who chooses to eat at the Otama and you are the waiter, all eyes will be upon you, and unless you apply for citizenship, you have no right to representation (if you want it, you'd have to pay for it yourself, out of pocket).

In a nutshell, being a noncitizen worker in Cordor is like being an illegal immigrant in America.
Seems to be a good analogy!

Very well. Since Selvec sorta pointed out he'd like an app. I'll compromise. Will write my formal application in the IC stories for all to see.

Seems to be a good analogy! Close. Illegal immigrants in America have at least some basic rights. But in Cordor, there's some question as to whether non-citizens even have those... Too bad there's no Geneva Convention in Toril. Oh well.

Daniel's son Danny would be a regular. He's been raised on Okappa's cupcakes His mother spoils him.

Are you really going to make snarky comments like this every time something doesn't go perfectly your way? Maybe you're not cut out for this. Though in your case, I note this is a habit, and I suggest you change your tune quick.

how about advertising? walking around cordor speaking to the characters who stand around in cordor?
organize IC events.. get the bards guild involved have a bard come and perform... raffle events... gambling *if it's allowed in cordor officially I don't know but you would most likely have to ask a city official IC about that.*

Actually, I just noticed I misclicked on the wrong emote. Seriously, Tormak, my intention wasn't to be -snarky- as you mentioned. It was a -positive- review of my first experience. I'm actually quite happy with the results, actually. Sorry if it made some of you misinterpret. See how this looks now: "Had one real customer, it's a -start-" As i've already mentioned, i'm french and sometimes I have trouble translating subtleties in english. But I -can- be snarky! But I wasn't this time.....gah...

Seriously Tormak, no, i'm going to stand up to you and say it, respectfully.
I think you'd get alot more mileage perhaps changing -half- of what you say into positive, constructive critique.
How are your comments supposed to help? DO's are usually more beneficial than DON'T.
Tell a five year old child to "not jump on the couch" and, good luck. Tell him to rather jump on the lawn outside and...TA-DA! Education. You definately haven't rped with my characters much and been sent friendly tells. I'Ve gone a -long- way to bend my RP with my characters to make it more enjoyeable to others. My characters have been publically humiliated, kidnapped, tortured, laughed at at times ( all ICLY of course) and i've always taken in with a grain of salt sending friendly winks to others in tells.
I'm actually very respectful and easy to live with, 99% of the time.
Now, and this isn't at -all- meant to be snarky, but rather a response i'd have liked, let's call it "food for thought"...-
"Psycho, while I applaud your efforts in creating a new, entertaining form of Roleplaying, I nonetheless believe you should take it slowly and tell yourself RP takes time, and please have the patience to put yourself in this mindset. Your comments seem to me to be snarky, and I know you can do better. "
What I dislike is, with some comments like that you make me look like a "bitchy , whiny diva who complains all the time" which I'm definately not.
"And I know you've got the experience to do better"
That said, oddly, I still like you. I think. You've got sort of a mystique dark overseer vibe I find kinda compelling.
That said, i'm waiting for the "This is our server, if you don't like the way we work, you may well choose another, we don't cater to your nitpicky needs" response: ....thing is, it isn't the way -we- work as you put it. It's the way -you- work.
I actually enjoy this server very much and appreciate the efforts -everyone- put in making it such an enjoyeable world.

I sorta knew that was coming, Yossarin. It's more like a -metaphor-, I could give an adult equivalent if you wish. Gah, you guys, you're pulling me into the content, shame on me ...
