*Nigltar did awake this morning an went about his normal routine, first he did rise and bathe is scales with fresh water then his application of bitterleaf oil to his scales, a little time was spent setting to any build up beneath his scales and claws. Nigltar then slowly dressed in his ceremonial leathers and wolf pelt.*

"To his all-watcher and warren yes another cycle nigltar dose rise in service. Yesss."

*With that Nigltar did take out a small mat kneeling upon it he folded his arms and bowed his head in silent meditation, for within he did seek the dragon, within he asked question of what was to come, what was to be and how he might service his warren this day. An it seemed that this day his meditation was answered. As the eye of the all-watcher did send word to his sleeping den, summons for him and his dens inhabitants to stand before the all-watcher and the High Eye.*

"Been summoned to the all watcher, have we, to service this cycle we need go now kin for our warren calls us."

*With that the five did make there way to the cavern of the all-watcher were there High-eye did tell them of what was to come, what task they were chosen for. It seemed that the Warren troubles had risen to a state were actions need be taken to solve them, an the five stood chosen by the all watcher himself to resolve the conflict and end or start wars for the warren*

Image

"Nigltar know of troubles, High eye speak already, Of threat to warren, The Yellow Claw, The adventurers. Nigltar know well, and Nigltals life is for warren."

*They were told there task, the sovernty or peace with the city of moon and copper, an so they would seek such, the plannign took many hours and it would take may cycles more, an so they sat in the warren the five chosen. Like well maid trap this plan would take time, and there works take cunning and wisdom. An so they plan*

"Nigltar will go seek the dragon once more, i shall cast bones and speak with the spirites of the ancestors of old, they will show me wisdom to add to our plan of cunning"

Excitement.

As usual, but perhaps more diligently so that day, Steelsnap found himself oiling his scales to a nearly vain degree. On the wall next to him was his old armor, dusted over from disuse, the single metal plate he had claimed from his first goblin kill still there upon the right shoulder.

It was proof that he had served the Warren then and since, even when wounded, or simply within the tunnels that made their home. Even when so many others had gone and left, or died, he had remained to teach the younger ones his craft.

It was proof that he may have been the last of his generation. Alone even amongst the rest. Reality and a silent shame that he could not grasp, could not understand, cooled his excitement to mere dying coals of what it once was. His eyes looked up to the walls and ceiling, all marked with battles, scenarios, what-if's, that only he could decipher.

I am to meet the All-Watcher.

He continued to polish his scales, but less vigorously.

* * *

"You draw good."

One of the five there spoke to him, as he toyed with presenting a plan to ambush local wildlife to the All-Watcher. All in all, the impressions they all gave him were unfavorable.

Then they were called forward. The high priest and the All-Watcher were working over plans that even a bare glance of made his look childish. Unfavorable impressions indeed.

What they spoke of stirred up that specter of fear, his hate of the other races flaring to the point he had to stifle himself. It was unthinkable, yet...his duty lay in following the All-Watcher and his god, for the good of the warren.

Yet...

* * *

He couldn't bring himself to speak openly as the others did. What they proposed, he considered foolishness. Madness. But, where he did not speak, they did. Freely. With confidence, with care, with one another. The one from before was quickly proving to be the leader, as their spirit talker spoke of circumstances favorable and not.

Why hadn't he joined in? Told them of what he thought? His anger rose in spite of himself, and finally when the one who wished not to slay the Yellow Fang so hastily spoke, he felt something push to challenge him. Soon enough, their unelected leader made it clear they were to quit their arguing, and he found his anger dying once again, as his excitement had.

Why?

* * *

A priest had come to see what their discussions had wrought. The female, for her oddities, had smartly led them to their pillars of history, this one decorated with numerous trade details. Such was not his work, and oddly enough a bit of spite may have mixed in to contribute to his lack of attention.

Once again, why was he simply there. Unable to speak, to offer his wisdom to those who were likely younger than himself. A wisdom of a veteran.

Of a survivor.

Ah...

A sadness he hadn't dared acknowledged swept over him, even as they spoke excitedly of how to play with the humans. It was like an old mate, wrapping about his body even as they decided how to handle diplomacy. For all his size and demeanor, he felt so so small and fragile, standing there before their written history.

"Who shall speak with them?"

Was he so broken?

"When the time comes, I will."

He hadn't expected anything, but still he spoke. In the end, it was decided otherwise, and he was content. Even as they all left to do their part, he stayed behind, looking about the pillar for what the others hadn't. Perhaps they had.

Over two hundred of their merchants had been claimed by Kurtulmak. Beside each name, a mark: "Adventurer".

He stalked off into the tunnels, a dull flame beginning to burn in his chest once more.

*Nigltar works his art in the common den, he finds a quiet corner an hear he begins to put this in order for a length seeking of the dragon and commune with the spirits of old. Firstly he sets down his mat, he then waits till others are not looking and digs up a small box from the cavern floor. Upon opening the small box inside sit an assortment of items that he considers sacred to his trade, most handed down to him by his teacher and others he gathered along his own path.

*Taking out two beeswax candles he had been saving these for some time for a day such as this, he marked each slowly with a goblin tooth, scratching draconic runes of old into their surface. Next a small skull is taken out, most would not be aware but this is in-fact the skull of his teacher, his shaman guide. His skull was kept so that Nigltar might seek his wisdom in a time of need once more. He placed the skull on the cavern floor so that the skull maid contact with the dirt of the cavern, and then places the candles either side of the skull and lights them with a fire from a nearby fire. Holding two incense cones over the candles he waits till they glow red and release there scent an so he places once in each eye of the skull.*

*Nigltar then takes a small blade, he cuts himself an takes a drop of his blood smearing it on the forehead of the skull painting the Draconic rune of lie upon his teachers skull. Taking a deep breath Nigltar wafts the smoke of the incense about allowing it to fill the areas around him and he begins to chant, but rather more like a series of strange grunts, yip and growls but in a harmonic manner.*

"Spirits of old, i call on you. I ask for guidance from thy spirit guide, an from the wisdom of my teacher and my ancestors. You watch the waking world in is state, give on to me your wisdom so that i might guide the warren and ensure its safety and prosperity"

*He takes a small piece of herb from within his pouch and begins to chew upon it. Nigltar then continues with his strange gruntial humming and chanting, his eyes roll back an he tries to commune with the spirits of old, waiting for the smokes before him to take shape and reveal to him the wisdom he seeks. Or for a voice of old to sound with words that might guid him.*

... who knows what he will learn, but it is safe to say whatever it is he will share with his dragon pack, an together they will do whatever they must for the warren.

Fighting, it always came down to that, it wouldn't surprise me if the other four plan to outright murder everything that isn't a Kobold, and show their heads to the city, because that will help us. He gazed upwards at the ceiling, I wonder what its like, up there... Seems I'll be finding out soon, I just hope I last, from what the others've said, It wouldn't surprise me if we die soon as set a single foot out of the Warren.

The others intrigue Ro'Viirix. They are diverse, unusual. A purposeful choice of the All-Watcher - praise be - but still unusual. Conflicting minds and personalities clashing, bound by blood but of opposing opinions and views of our problem.

Inefficient.

She was taught that efficiency is everything; traps machines weapons plans writings armor devices inventions murder. All of it should be executed with utmost care, deadly efficient, merciless and absolute.

Must be perfect.

Efficient.

Deadly.

Pick at the mammalian psychology? Need to research more. So little material.

Extrapolate? No, better to rely upon what little these have.

Brush up on the Trade Tongue? A good idea. Few who speak is very well, but Ro'Viirix will find them. Practice. Inform them that her need to practice is demanded by the All-Watcher's duties.

Duties. Her own duties in the workshops, designing traps under the masters of the Warren. Practice practice practice. This took her away from her work.

Needed to be finished.

Quickly.

With deadly efficiency.

Just like everything else these must do.

...will confer with the others.

Cowardice... That was all the others saw.

The Goblins had came from nowhere, the others had charged in to the fight, but I had only one choice. Run. They wouldn't understand, I'm but a mere Trapmaker, my skills lay with the setting of tripwires, the creation of pressure plates, and any other ingenious designs. Not with the spear, or the blade.

But they will never understand. They refuse to.

Waiting.

Its been countless cycles now. The day may draw near, but never near enough. Sickening nerves and doubts have filled me. My work is fading in grandeur, and I am certain the road ahead is beyond treacherous. But I'll have to wait in the dark.

Before I can see the light.

Clink.

He swung his pickaxe again at the wall, hoping to find something usable.

Clink.

"That isn't possible."

Clink.

"But he said it."

Clink.

"Who?"

Clink.

"The All Watcher."

Ching!

"Are you sure?"

...

"Yes, I heard it! The All Watcher and the Greater Eye!"

Clink.

"We go to war with..."

...clink.

================================

After meeting with Unruk and Ro'viirix after his first round of mining, Steelsnap would find himself in the midst of great confusion with what he had been told that night. Unruk's anger, which perhaps exceeded his own, as much as he did not wish to admit it. Ro's brilliance and madness - he wondered if progeny with such a vexing female would result in further distortions, or perhaps be tempered into something grand-- he instantly dropped the thought.

His mind wandered back to their first expedition. The goblin ambush when they first visited the city of humans. Loric's cowardice during the attack...during it all. His lack of presence not only several moons ago, but that night as well.

Then there was what the other miner had said.

After they had all parted ways to go about their duties of creating battle gear and training the troops, he would find himself returning to the mines in search of the only two miners to mention what the All Watcher and Greater Eye had supposedly said.

It was too soon to come to hasty judgement - this much he had learned over time. He would have to find what had become of Nigltar, and perhaps consult with him as well...

Loril himself and been oh so busy.

He had been sat for hours on end, alone, performing his art. His Traps were beginning to faulter. And he wished to rectify such.

He had no idea that there was a meeting to be had, too busy whimpering over his lost talents to do anything of use.

Boring.

After they had departed from the meeting, Ro had seemed rather upset at having to speak at length with the diplomat. Even after a brief encounter with the damned farmer and some adventurers, something niggled at the back of his mind.

Something the diplomat had spoken but he couldn't understand.

It may be as the All Watcher says, but which one of us is using who?

The following days would gnaw at his mind even as he taught his skills to the next generation.

Confidence.

She had spent every waking moment not at work reading that book, learning from merchants, practicing Common. She knew how to use words, she could be eloquent when she needed to, just had to focus, keep her head straight.

The others seemed painfully quiet last time, she couldn't say things, she froze up. Maddening, frustrating (terrifying?), irritating. Perhaps she spoke over them, tried to talk too much, no, she didn't think so.

Stress.

The meeting with the Diplomat left her reeling. How could she be expected to maintain a conversation in a tongue as bizarre and contradictory as Common? She couldn't think straight at the end; vexing!

Nigltar helped, Unrak and Steelsnap deafening in silence; not their fault, they couldn't speak Common as well as she and Nigltar; no, she should have been teaching them; no, Nigltar should have taught them; no, Nigltar was busy she was already fluent; no no no, maddening. Perhaps over nothing.

No, she didn't like the meeting. The human seemed too receptive, too eager after hearing of offers of gems and ore. Didn't like it at all. She was smug. Mammals. Always smug. She found herself growing agitated. When the meeting ended, she was truly upset.

Angry.

The sun hurt her eyes; just what she needs! Perfect. The others are talkative again. She passes the farmer. She glares. The others pass by him.

"Heh."

She freezes.

Did he just...

He did.

She slowly turned around. Walked towards him.

"Hey, yip yip yip!"

Mocking her.

He starts asking travelers if they've killed kobolds before.

Hatred.
All she can think is murder. He did not just do that to Ro'Viirix's face. She returns from stressful duties, he hires adventurers to commit genocide. She swears he will pay her vision goes red she will construct for him an elaborate personal hell and she will build this little slice of agony just for him and she will laugh as she engineers every little piece of his life to fail as his crops and his livestock and his very dreams die and then she will continue making her traps and machines and
okay she feels better now.

Had to get it out of her system.

It's been a long cycle.

...still going to bleed out that worthless sack of flesh, though.

And soon it became clear where Loril was. And why.

His eyes stung, and his legs ached. He had ran from the Warren itself and into the frontier, narrowly avoiding a Goblin raid. He ran to the woods. And there he had stayed.

The next cycle he returned. He limped injured to his work. Were anyone to ask of what had happened he would simply reply with "Adventurers" and carry on.

*Nigltar sits in a small secluded part of the warren small pyramids of duselroot combined with mar scent burn about him giving of thick smoke that fills nigltars senses an the room with a light purple haze. for a time he simple remains hear in careful thought "seeking the dragon" some would have thought, but not quiet for within he communes with the ancestors seeking a greater wisdom.*

"Will the pale skins keep their word"

"No, know promise break they will, for pale skins have memory of decoa fly and heart of a serpent"

"Will warren prosper for a time"

"Gain Strength will warren, yellow fang tribe defeat will warren"

*For a long time Nilgtar remains in a deep state of meditation while he asks questions of himself an the ancestors as he awaits what will come to pass what will change for all the work him an his companions have done, an deep down he thinks how much more pleaseing it would be to end them all, those humany citys of stone an to see his warren rive above all else, but these are perhaps silly thoughts, or are they ?*
