Envelopes bearing a blue waxen seal, depicting the symbol of Mystra, are addressed and sent to the following individuals:

In Kohlingen:
Tuomas Valo, Zelly, Eli Hodgewall, Drerem Jollum
In Cordor:
Lieutenant Belalad Feiwallyan
In Winya Ravana:
Lorae Runessa
In Ceyren's Mill:
Samantha Lockeheart

The letter within reads as follows:

~~~
23rd of Marpenoth, 1380
*Name here,*
It is my privilege to announce good news in the formation of our school of magic. Following a meeting with Drerem Jollum, owner and proprietor of 'Drerem's Magical Supplies' in Kohlingen, I can announce that renovations and construction may commence on the school. Mr. Jollum has graciously opened the upper floors of his tower to our project. Therefore, I am calling together a meeting of the board of regents. First off, for those who may not know, the board consists of the following individuals: Tuomas Valo, Zelly, Eli Hodgewall, Belalad Feiwallyan, Samantha Lockeheart, and Lorae Runessa. Mr. Jollum, as well, has been offered, and has accepted, an honorary seat on the board. As founder of the school, I will be assuming chairmanship of the board.
Agenda for the first meeting will be as follows:
- Naming the school.
- Setting the school's guiding principles.
- Naming a provost.
- Setting agenda for future meetings.
The meeting will be hosted at the Mystran hall, in Kohlingen. I would ask you write with your availability.
Mystra's blessings,
`Ulrik
Mister Ulrik, please set a time and I shall endeavour to be there as soon as possible.
Tuomas Valo
// This Thursday's probably not good as I'm going to a job fair but later Thursday might work.
Tuesday Tuomas has another IC meeting in the afternoon and Wednesday is my cross town workout but 4 PM Eastern would work. I'll keep an eye here for the decision and figure out a way to make it though no matter what happens.
Oddly enough a certain pixie is seen entering Kohlingen. If any were to take note of her they would see the envelope she caries that is nearly the same size she is. When the sea breezes catch the envelope just right she would curse in sylvan at the pesky sail of a letter she carried. Making her way through the city, she finds the right door and slides the envelope under the jam.
Dear Ulrik,
I will be there to help in what ever way I may. I will bring a copy of some of the materials I have prepared for the Mystic Blade Academy to reference for ideas and inspiration.
Your friend,
Samantha Lockeheart.
Belalad with a deep sigh and getting crackers before hand boards a ship towards the city. Rumor has it he spends the trip in his cabin that he rented, muttering about hating the sea.
*Sent out to the aforementioned board members is a copy of the following.*
~~~

Meeting Minutes
4th of Uktar

Meeting Chair:
Ulrik Valis
Attending:
Samantha Lockeheart
Belalad Feiwallyan
Zelly
Tuomas Valo
Lorae Runessa
Guests:
Tauronemhet, of House Osirant
Johari

The first order of business was discussion of a name for the school. Many proposals and variations were proposed. Essentially, they could be narrowed down into three categories. Denoting ideology, geography, or remaining ambiguous.

- Seven Stars Academy.
- Amian Academy of Magic.
- Amian Academy.

Preference was given to the name the Amian Academy of Magic. It was accepted with a vote of 5 to 1. However, discussion followed over the implications of naming it the 'Amian' Academy of Magic. It was then agreed that the name is to be considered tentative, and that further discussion would occur at a following meeting.

The second order of business was determining a guiding set of principles. Concerns were raised that in adopting such, there would be some who would be excluded. However, majority consensus agreed that this was unavoidable, and that guidelines are necessary to distinguish the school and its purpose.

The following was proposed by the chair to serve as creed of the Amian Academy of Magic:

"I will...
Love and appreciate magic for itself.
Treat magic responsibly and rationally, to avoid mistakes even magic can not undo.
Strive to learn when to use, and when not to use magic.

I realize magic is a Gift, and those that wield it are privileged.
I realize that with magical power comes grave responsibility.

I will conduct myself according to these ideas, and I will encourage them wherever hence I go."

It was accepted by unanimous vote, and support from the guests present.

The last order of business was a discussion on the form of administration. It was decided that the office of provost, which was wanting of suitable candidates, was unnecessary and that the board of regents would divide administrative duties amongst themselves. The specifics of which will be discussed at the following meeting.

Further, it is noted that Belalad has volunteered to undergo testing for magical compulsions, given his affiliation with the Commonwealth of Cordor. Though deemed unnecessary by the board, it was agreed to be done. As of the writing of these minutes, this has not been carried out. Any capable member of the board is encouraged to attend this matter, and report it at the next meeting.

My apologies for the brevity of these minutes. Given the pace of last eve's meeting, a word for word transcription was not mundanely possible by the meeting's chair. It is recommended that a designated minute-taker be appointed the task in future meetings.

The agenda for the next meeting is as follows:
- Finalizing the name of the school.
- Appointing administrative tasks.
- Setting the school's policy towards other related organizations, such as Tarkuul, the Triumvir, and the Winyan Academy of the Art, which is currently under construction.
- Discussing the announcement of the Amian Academy of Magic.

We shall meet sometime in the following tenday to continue our work. You have my sincere thanks and gratitude for your support. I must echo the sentiment of Johari, following last eve's meeting. 'The lost tower has been found once more.'

Mystra's blessings,
`Ulrik

4/7 in Attendance.
Tuomas
Lorae
Samantha
Eli

Agenda:
1st: School Name
2nd: Administrative Duties
3rd: Setting Policy towards other Institutions
4th: How to Announce the School

Pre-meeting
Tuomas raised the issues and chose to lead the discussion.
~Lorae, with the white wings, brought up the idea of using a voting box to be placed within the Guild Hall. It was well accepted in the hope of including those that were unable to attend.

It will be sitting by these posted minutes and put to the test with naming the school.

1st point of the meeting:
School Names: Seven Stars Academy/ Amian Academy of Magic/ Amian Academy/ The Academy of Magical Arts.

Additions to the list: University of Magic/ School of the Weave/ University of Magical Studies/ Academy of the Mystic Arts

We will put them to a vote to narrow the field, then another to decide the new name.

2nd point of the Meeting:
~Lorae, with the white wings, had an opinion on such: First we decide the list of tasks, and then all can choose from said list as to what they would like to do.
~Samantha offered to shelf the topic until the next meeting when more could be fleshed out on the subject.
~Lorae, with the white wings, did not object to such.
~Samantha proposed we start a suggestions box to help figure out the missing "what" of administrative duties which turned into almost a pitch for what those duties should be.

It was determined that Samantha would come to the next meeting with a pitch as it was evident that she, of all present, had experience in organizing a school. Any others are more than welcome to come with such pitches as well or simply leave a document of such at the Guild Hall in Kohlingen for review at the next meeting.

3rd point of the meeting:
We discussed at length our own ideas and ultimately decided it ultimately best to revisit the topic when all that had missed this meeting could be involved.

Ideas that were offered on this topic:
~Don't set a policy on admissions until the need arises as Kohlingen's gate laws prevent many undesirables from entering anyways.
~As we are not a political nor religious organization, w should not actively allow school resources to be put to use in harming other institutions or organizations unless an attack is made against the school or the very principals upon which it was founded.

All final decisions were left to a later date when more members could be present.

4th point of the meeting:
~It was proposed for consideration of the board that a mage's fair would be a decent place to spread the word about the new school.

This was the sum of ideas before Samantha had to depart on account of guard duty.

All in all it was a fairly productive meeting, I am pleased to say.

Gods' Peace my friends,

~Eli

*On the top of a box which sits next to the listing of the minutes is a note and a slit. Infront of said box sits a pad of paper.*

Quote:
Dear colleague or honored guest,
Listed here are potential names to be voted upon. We will do this voting in two parts. The first will be to narrow the field to the more popular of names and the second will be to finalize a decision. In the result of a tie, the two winners will then be voted upon once more. The potential names are as follows:

    •Seven Stars Academy
    •University of Magic
    •Amian Academy of Magic
    •School of the Weave
    •Amian Academy
    •University of Magical Studies
    •The Academy of Magical Arts
    •Academy of the Mystic Arts
    •
    •
    •
    •

Please vote by listing your name and the school name you like best on the paper provided and then insert it in the slot of this marvelous box.* Please be sure to also vote for only one possible name for the school at a time. If you would like to add to the list of names, feel free to do so by filling in one of the blank spaces provided.**

Thank you and I look forward to our next meeting!

*the small pad of paper has the following neatly written on the pages*

Quote:
Name of Voter:
Preferred School Name:

*((Box slot=Dust's PM Box in this case, or simply whomever's PM box that sets up future votes))
**((PM me or Msheeler and we can update the list if any new ideas arise.))

*A note is left for the rest.*

Friends,

Apologies for missing last evening's meeting. I found myself in an inextricable situation, that I shall attribute to being 'retired.' I shall see you at the next meeting.

*The vote box is checked once more by Eli and he is pleased to discover that the last straggler appears to have found its way in. He then replaces the note on the box.*

Friends,
The votes to narrow the names list have been tallied and there are two clear contenders:

• Seven Stars Academy

• Amian Academy of Magic

Please cast your ballots accordingly.

A notice is posted in the guildhall in preperations for the upcoming meeting

There are five main categories the board of regents should consider for the assignment of duties which must be performed in order to effectively run the school. Each of these categories is made up of related components which I will list out:

Facilities –
    1. The procurement of a building / grounds for the school to operate in.
    2. The obtainment of materials and supplies necessary for the operation of the school.
    3. The continued upkeep of school property.
Public Relations –
    1. Announcement of the schools formation
    2. Ongoing advertisement and recruitment of students
    3. Development and maintenance of relations with other groups and entities.
Staffing –
    1. Recruitment of qualified teaching staff / lecturers.
    2. Scheduling of classes and reservations of teaching facilities.
    3. Recruitment of general staff to run and maintain the school and its interests.
Financial –
    1. Holding and accounting for all funds for the school
    2. Maintaining reports for the budgeting and raising of school funds
    3. Payments for staff and guest lecturers.
Governance –
    1. Creation of the guiding principles that will be the vision for the school.
    2. Development and ongoing implimentation of bylaws which will support the schools guiding principles.
    3. Development / approval of budgets and implimentation of fund raising for the school.

I would propose that the first four of these should be separate, autonomous departments that report to the fifth, overseeing department which will likely be made up of the board of regents.

3rd meeting, 6/7 board members in attendance:
Tuomas
Ulrik
Zelly
Eli
Lorae
Samantha

Guest:
Emma Vaughn

Meeting agenda:
1. Establish departments
2. Assign duties
3. Considerations on opening announcement

Meeting introduction:

Samantha presented her administrative suggestions. (There is a dot here that has a replica on Sam’s assignment of duties list).

- At the end, Samantha suggested the departments listed should be separate and autonomous from each other but answer to the governance department, which would be reserved for the board of regents.
- It was reasoned that this would promote order and avoid the duplication of work.
- At the very end it was agreed that none have issue with the current outline.

Meeting discussions:

- Zelly issued a preference of expanding the basic concept so everyone would have their own place. It is reasoned it would involve more individuals this way.
- Lady Emma forwarded the concern that there are not currently enough people to cover all of the tasks listed.
- It was reasoned that the board members would take leadership of listed departments until suitable candidates could be recruited to help and advance expansion of tasks.
- Lorae suggested board members need not take up just one set of tasks from a listed departments but it was reasoned by the rest that it would be more orderly as such.
- Zelly suggested keeping the governance away from the other departmental duties to avoid conflict of interest.
- Tuomas reasoned that we are still too few for such a thing to be possible. Until more are recruited, it is agreed the governance group needs to take on the bulk of tasks.

The choosing of tasks and departments went as follows:

- Lorae presented interest in the Staffing department.
- Lady Emma decided to take on the duties specific for the Public Relations department.
- Zelly presented interest in running the Financial department, perhaps permanently, with resignation from regency and governance.
- Tuomas, with the support of Ulrik, would handle the Facilities department.
- Belalad needs to be informed of proceedings and decide on placement.
- It was agreed that all departments would cooperate in the accomplishing of tasks, such as organizing a Mage Fair.
- Eli was suggested as head party planner.

Other considerations:

Staffing and payment.

- The thought of providing monetary compensation for potential staff was brought up.
- None of the present considered monetary gain from the endeavor.
- Lorae expressed her wish to keep gold out of the way entirely, to promote volunteer work.
- Zelly expressed that as long as there is no established method of earning money to fund this, there will be no salaries.
- Samantha considered that offering a paid job would bring in quality workers.
- Emma suggested that cases be handled individually. If individuals involved require funds for the type of service they offer, it can be considered at the time it is brought up.
- Samantha considered contracted work, as opposed to regular pay.
- The issue in itself was considered too forward in planning and was put on hold.

End of meeting session.

A notice is posted at the guild hall -

I would like to request permission from the regents to invite 3 guests to the next meeting. They would be Sorana Gale, E'dalar Solonthas and Railen Vilo. I have already received an okay from Master Hodgewall and Madam Lorae, but wanted to give all the others an opportunity to express their thoughts.

Thank you for the considerations,

Samantha

I also have a guest I would like present at the next meeting. She would be Cilessa Isylunae and has expressed interest in becoming part of the regular staff.

A response is penned.

I actually have a problem with E'dalar, for many of the same reasons that he's been blacklisted by my company, but I suppose I don't know whether it makes any difference that he knowingly deals with evil and despicable creatures such as half-devils and slavers. While I know your gut argument will be to tell me to keep my business separate from the school, I find it far more an affront to what I stand for as an individual than just a grudge I bear due to his choices in commerce.

I wouldn't want to work with anyone who makes the stance he does, regardless of the endeavor at hand. I wouldn't be surprised if in time he wouldn't be welcome in Kohlingen anyway, as blatant as his practices are.

Everyone else is fine, though! Cilessa, too!

Regarding the others save E'dalar, I support inviting them withotu question.

E'dalar , if indeed he deals with Slavers willingly I would rather he not be present.

I echo my colleagues' responses.

Further, I know that E'dalar was also in the process of constructing a golem that would bind the unwilling spirit of a dragon, a practice of magic that I can not actively condone. Both Tuomas and Zelly can attest to this fact. This, coupled with his dealings with slavers and other unsavory sorts noted by Zelly, marks him as an individual I do not support associating with this budding institution.

The others noted I have no qualms with, and further, am heartened to see such support and interest.

A letter is posted in the guild hall.

I must admit after reading your responses to my request I found myself confused, worried and even some what offended. I did, however take the time to think long and hard over the things you said. I find myself thinking that this must be some misunderstanding and I would like an opportunity to meet with several of you to clear this up, as I consider E’dalar to be one of my dearest friends.

Given this level of misunderstanding I would like to first schedule some time to meet with Ulrik and discuss this matter and better understand each other. I will look for a response and hope to meet with you soon Ulrik.

I am uncertain what might be ambiguous, so as to be misunderstood. However, I will elaborate upon what I previously wrote regarding E'dalar, and welcome both Zelly and Tuomas to add to it, as they were both present and involved in the conversation.

E'dalar requested the help of the remains of the Monolith guild in the construction of a golem. Upon further discussion, it was mentioned that the type of golem he was seeking aid in constructing was a drakestone golem, which required the unwilling spirit of a dragon be bound, instead of an elemental as typically required in the creation of a traditional golem. He required the formula for the enchantment, Geas, as part of this ritual. We - as both Tuomas and myself oppose traditional means of golem artifice - explained alternatives to this, and the reasons we were opposed to such craft. E'dalar dismissed our concerns and spoke outright he would seek the help of others. This, coupled with the unethical nature of the Geas spell he was seeking the spell formula to, marks him as an individual unconcerned with an ethical practice of magic. Considering the school we are seeking to form is to promote the very same principles he seems willing to dismiss, I must oppose his inclusion in the school's faculty and his participation in its formation.

As for Zelly's concerns with his business dealings, it is best she elaborate upon them. Though I understand Copper Industries follows very closely the tradeboards of the region, and regularly notes who does business with who. I will not support the inclusion of those who support persons or organizations of malign intent, be it directly or indirectly through the conduct of business and trade with them.

There is no ambiguity in this matter, and the other regents lend no support to his inclusion. Though if you feel it necessary to speak to myself, I shall make time before the next meeting to speak with you on the matter.

As you do not seem to mind discussing these things in the manner of letters then here are some of the things I am confused about, and please forgive me if these questions seem naïve but I am trying to truly understand these things:

1. In what way does the spirit of an elemental have any more or less right to freedom then that of a dragon?
2. How is the use of an evil dragon’s spirit to animate a golem for the cause of good different than dominating the mind and spirit of an evil giant and forcing it to slay its own kin for the cause of good different?
3. How is association of one person to others of questionable intent or moral through trade different than association or others of questionable intent through studies in the risen city of Tarkul?

Sincerely,

Samantha Lockeheart

*Some time later, a reply is left. A corner is stained, perhaps by some sort of juice.*

Concerning your first point, there is no difference. Binding the spirit of a dragon is no less, or no more, moral than that of an elemental spirit. I consider both acts immoral, and is the reason I oppose traditional methods of golem artifice.

Concerning the second. There is a difference between the binding of a spirit within a construct, and the use of enchantment magic to influence the mind of an evil creature that would otherwise fall to either magic or blade when the spell is cast. The binding of an unwilling spirit keeps it, for all intents and purposes, hostage for an indeterminate amount of time, that oft time spans decades and centuries, if not longer. Typically, the spirit to be bound to a golem is summoned by the caster, and is therefore targeted intentionally and is the victim of the caster. This differs from use of an enchantment against a being that is already threatening the caster or set against goodly folk the caster is seeking to protect.

Concerning the third. Comparing study to the conduct of trade and business is a faulty analogy. Though, to briefly expound upon this: conducting trade with an evil organization or individual bolsters said organization or individual, through either the acquisition of goods or gold. Studying within the library of Tarkuul neither bolsters nor directly supports Tarkuul. However, to reiterate, it is my stance that this school should not support, or have dealings with, Tarkuul. Though I do not see the relevance of this question to the matter at hand.

I hope this clarifies matters. Though I do not mind correspondence that is open to the rest of the board. Much to the contrary, in fact.

I could go through and make up a list of all the dealings he's had with malicious and evil creatures and persons, but the list would be long. Why should I do that, though, when he is perfectly content with his practices and you can likely get him to admit to it? He doesn't have any shame in his dealings, last I knew. Ask him about his trading with half-devils and peddlers of demonic wares. Ask him about his own moral ambiguity which doesn't seem to exist. He carries the very common policy of, "Coin is coin. I don't care where it comes from, so long as it gets me rich." And that is a very harmful stance - one I absolutely do not support. It is something I have seen far too much lately and I have personally begun a regime against such careless practices.

A follow up question:

Is traveling to the lair of giant kin a valid premise to consider yourself in eminent danger? It would seem to me, when considering the previously mentioned use of magical domination that your terms of use for such magic should not apply. My argument would be this: If an individual has traveled into the lair if the giant, then they were infact never in eminent danger because they created the situation. That is to say in simple terms, you can not say that you were acting in defence when attacked by an angry swarm of bees when the reason they have attacked is because you were poking the nest.

Would you agree?

*Eli posts the results*

Though not all votes are in, I took the liberty of checking the box anyways and it seems we already have a winner. With an overwhelming total of 6 votes, the name will be: Seven Stars Academy.

3rd meeting, 4/7 board members in attendance:
Tuomas
Ulrik
Zelly
Belalad

Meeting agenda:
1. Discussing previous meetings and bringing things up to date.

Meeting introduction:

Zelly of course led the meeting from start to finish. There were pleasantries and some were unsure what we would discuss, as at that time more key individuals seemed necessary to move forward.

Meeting discussions:

- Zelly explained that the starting budget for the school, as recorded in the financial records, is eleven million gold pieces.
- Ulrik suggested we start buying and making books. We each placed forth our interest in having our own written works added to these.
- Tuomas has stepped down from his seat so that he can focus on many projects he has under his belt. As such, I personally propose his now vacant seat be given to Lady Emma Vaughn.

Other considerations:

None. It was concise, probably because Zelly led the entire discussion and did an exemplary job of it!

End of meeting session.

"Heh, Zelly -would- say that about herself. Got to admire her self esteem."

Friends,

My apologies for missing the recently scheduled board meeting. I have yet to submit the necessary paperwork to the city hall, and so accordingly, had very little progress to report. However, I do plan on beginning classes on behalf of the school, hosting them in the former guild-hall for the time being. It is my hope that advertising classes and conducting lectures will begin to get our academy noticed. When the time comes, we can simply move into the more suitable accommodations, as arranged with Mister Drerem.

My first lecture will be an introduction and discussion of the traditional schools of magic, intended to be a primer for novices in the Art, as well as informative to those uninitiated but interested. I encourage the rest of you to conduct your own lectures, recruit folks who might be interested in working for the school, and otherwise doing what needs to be done to bring activity to the academy. We have less need of organizational meetings now that we have discussed much of what needed to be decided.

Following this lecture, I plan on conducting lectures on ethics in magic, as well as a more advanced talks on both divinations and enchantments. If any others plan on conducting lectures, note it so we might coordinate.

Further, I will be commissioning a sign for the school.

Lastly, I would note an interested individual: Myra Mercedes. She arrived in Kohlingen, seeking the former guild of the Monolith. After informing her that organization no longer exists, she expressed an interest in furthering her education and a dismay that the premier magical institution at the moment is the Living City. She shows an interest in both enchantments and transmutations, and a predisposition towards magical artifice and a curiosity of golemcraft. She spoke of an interest in the academy; either attending classes, or assisting with them. Pending assessment of her skills, we can decide where it would be appropriate she begin her involvement with the academy.

Mystra's blessings,
`Ulrik

Friends,

With Zelly's help, I have placed notices announcing the school as well as our first class. I hope Lady Emma forgives my enthusiasm for announcing this class, as I know she expressed an interest in handling public relations.

Specifically, I intend to award certificates for those who attend and complete the first course upon the traditional schools of magic. While a simple matter, the awarding of certificates should be finalized for all further classes. Though such hardly warrants a full meeting of the board. What I propose is simple, and thus:

- Instructors award certificates to students whom attend and demonstrate suitable mastery over the subject matter.
- Instructors hosting more advanced classes may require students to have earned a particular certificate as a prerequisite.
- The particulars should remain in the hands of the instructors.

I hope that with this first class, we may see more classes in the near future. I intend to hold multiple classes for the first lesson.

Notices were put up at the Triumvir, Bendir Dale, Wharftown and here in Kohlingen. Zelly was kind enough to place a few in Cordor. Perhaps someone would place a notice in Winya Ravana, as well? I would rather not make that trip.

`Ulrik

A stack of notices is left on the table in the former guild-now-school hall.
