*Written in fine black ink the following reads*

The Imaskar Empire existed four thousand years ago before experiencing suffering from a great plague that killed most of its population. The rulers of the Imaskari people opened a set of portals linking them with another world; bring fourth over one hundred thousand humans through it, then sealing it back up forever. The Imaskar then enslaved these people known as the Mulan. The slaves in this new world prayed to their God, and Goddess, but their prayers went unheard. After Ao’s intervention was able to bring the Mulan’s peoples deities in this new realm and granted them with divine power. The Mulan’s great and powerful Deities fought against the Imaskar defeating them and driving them west along with their followers. The nations of Mulhorand, and Unther we’re born after this, and much war that followed. The divine god-like beings agreed to abide by there words and heeded their calls. Them became “God-slaves” of the Mulan people. Over centuries Mulhorand became the nations of Thay, Murghorn, and Semphar. Over a few hundred years Mulhorand was on a slow decline until the end of the Time of troubles. When AO removed the barrier portals opening up the realms that allowed these “God-slave” deities to reunite with their pure essence. After the Deities of the Mulan returned to Mulhorand would then be ruled by a mortal voice for its first time ever. During the first ages Mulhorand had gone though periods of Martial law, and repressions, then stabilized itself with Religion.

After being slaves themselves the churches become slavers and claimed humans to be property of another. Even though these slaves are treated well, and carried for, killing a slave is considered a capital punishment where land and possessions are used as payments for the crime. Any slave being treat unfairly can request to file a complaint with the Church of Osiris, who judges how slaves are treated.

It is quite amazing that the few decent factions choose to ignore this, and turn a blind eye to it. Most “good” people would frown upon these atrocities; instead they choose to ignore it. I guess it’s all right to be a caring person that’s benevolent and still claim ownership over somebody, some life. They’re treating a sentient person like a beast of burden. Eye for and Eye? Thought we should love thy neighbor. Nobody should be kept against their will, and used as a servant that’s forced into labor. But since these folks are seen as a “good” assembly of people, it must be okay? In their eyes it’s acceptable, in my eyes, its hypocrites I see. Let me ask you a question; would you like to be a slave?
And if so, after being set free, would you do it to someone else? I say treat others the way you would wish to be treated, with respect. Shouldn’t people have a right to live, work, play, and be free? Not forced into bondage. You should never claim ownership over another human being for whatever reasons. Set them free, that’s giving respect to these people and their lives, not as some captive servants. Protect the downtrodden and meek. Lets see them set free.

A certain drow female reads the notice can't help but nod in agreement that all slaves deserve to be free but mutters about the futility of trying to change the policies of a place half way across Faerun, especially when there was so many cultures that practiced slavery that were close by and considerably more evil.

a certain Mulan female would read this and depending on where she would read this may or may not have a male following her at a respectful distance... she would smile slightly and leave a note...

A rather angry looking Mulan woman can be seen reading this. Then, she pens a short response, leaving it attached to one in Cordor.

Instead of worrying over our slaves, who are all fed, clothed, and cared for, why not waste your time worrying over those people living without food, shelter, or care in your own cities?

How dare anyone call Mulhorand evil for slavery when you turn a blind eye, as you say, to your own injustice and iniquity? You allow children to starve to death, all the while crowing about how "enlightened" and "just" you are, it is disgusting and sickening to us to see such innocents reduced to charnel trash, their lives openly worth /nothing/ to you. Our slaves are a vital part of our culture, and we would /never/ allow them to be treated as you treat your free people.

Meksehenet Chalthoum, faithful of Nephthys.

Seeing the Dale's copy Pilineth sighs and Facepalms. "Are you trying to rile a revolution? On a small island? Against an empire countless miles away? Are you actually mentally deranged? Or just stupid?" She muses aloud before writing in large letters across the post;

Moronic ramblings of an idiot.

Elor, upon reading the writing trough frowns a bit. Though he seems increasingly annoyed, he pauses upon not noticing a name and regains his composure.

Dear mysterious sir or madam-

Though you speak ill of my people, I hold it not against you. I, too, do not believe that anyone should be kept as a slave. But what you ask, o noble Nameless One, is to undo generations worth of a way of living. I hold it not against them yhat they hold slaves, for yes a Mulhorandi slave is the most cared for of all. They aremy people and I love them.

Perhaps you should seek to remove your anomity and confront such things in a proper forum. Until then, if you hide in the shadows, change cannot be had.

With undying love,
-Salema Nefahri, priestess of Sharess

[Cedric would see this in the Dale, Wharftown and Cordor and place his response to it next to each.]

You seem quite learned about the history and past of my people yet, you seem to forget your own words and know little more then the writings of a book of the rich culture and way of life of my people.

You state clearly my people were slaves brought from another world in another plane of exsitence. Yet you ask if a former slave would own slaves. I think the answer would be clear in this case.

You state how our Gods came to be in this world and saved us from our bondage and were finally rewarded for their suffering and care for our people, how they have given us rules for ownership of our slave, who are well fed, well cared for and even educated. You admit that my Lord Osiris has appointed his priests to sit in judgement of any that break these rules of conduct and the punishments can be very severe yet, at the same time you forget that we also live by the Ma'at. A code even the most pious of paladins may not be able to follow.

You focus on the 'freedom' a slave does not have. The freedom to starve or beg in the streets as I have seen in Cordor. The freedom to go without the basic needs being met or even love given freely of a child orphaned. Here I have seen but one woman with a few helpers taking care of many children. In our homeland, all children are well cared for, slave or free. None go without food, water and a place of safety to rest and live. Even the lowest born has hope to rise up and gain their freedom.

I myself have already found a former slave of our people and because of her honor, her duty being fulfilled and how she carried herself, I granted her the freedom you would have her have. Yet is it not sweeter that she earned her freedom rather then simply having it given to her or taken for granted?

Was she truely free if she could not walk with her head held high in respectful pride and honor?

You seek to change our way of life without truly knowing how the Mulan live. You speak of the learning of books, but not of life. You ignore the plight of the people that are 'free', free to starve, free to suffer, free to die but think the ones that are 'slaves' that are well cared for, safe and well fed are the ones in need?

In Cordor, the dead are turned to blasphemed undead and walk the sewers and the graveyard. A cult of rat worshipers infest the crypts of their honored dead. In Mulhorand this would be the most shameful thing one could imagine. Our dead are honored and protected and even the lowest slave knows that when their time to be purified comes, their remains will be protected by even the highest of priests.

In Wharftown, the people struggle to be free and fight honorably. Not far from there is a place of such evil and vileness that a ruler turned her own servant into undead. Is this not slavery of the worst kind? Do you think these people wanted to become walking dead? How long do you think before they spill out and cause many deaths within the town?

My people have come to the aid of Wharftown and we battle the undead.

We have taken an official position about the slavers that have become increasingly bold near the Dale also. I am Emissary to the good hin and we will aid them in their fight as we can also.

All across the island, the people of Mulhorand are bringing the enlightenment of Ma'at and aiding people that seek to live good and honorable lives. We are helping protect and preserve while seeking out that which is vile and evil. Yet you post these words and do not even have the honor to sign your name?

This tells a great deal of your honor. Of your strength of belief in your own words.

Hear me nameless one that seeks to hide behind the veil of secrecy. I will not hide as you do for I know my people are right and blessed. Yes, we own slaves but, they are in far better care and live better then most of the so called free people of the world. Just as a farmer will not allow a beloved pet or good ox, pig, chicken or sheep to be killed or abused, so much more we will not allow a slave to be harmed or abused.

You speak of an Eye for an Eye yet you forget also the old saying, do not worry for the splinter in your neighbor's eye when you have a plank stuck in your own.

The blind can not lead the blind for then both will fall into the ditch.

Before you seek to 'free' those that are well cared for and safe. Seek first to 'free' the ones here from hunger, disease, abandonment and those that would seek to harm them wantonly without justification save their own selfish desires. Free them from fear of becoming undead slaves because your graveyards and crypts are not protected and they are not allowed their purifiation during the journey to the afterlife. Free them from the dark fears of where they can rest without worry rats, four legged and two legged, will come and bite them or bring horrid death from diseases.

Once you have accomplished all this. Then speak to us of how we are evil because we own slaves. How we do not live Ma'at. How our way of life that has existed for, as you say, centuries, is wrong.

Step out into the light and stand before us and condemn us. Not from the shadows like the very skulking vile filth you supposedly accuse us of being.

Perhaps then you may see our thoughts on this change. Perhaps not, but until such time, your words carry no weight for how can we, as proud Mulhorandi, think they have any worth when you yourself will not stand forth and show you truly believe them.

You act as a yapping jackel, who complains that he can not have meat from the lion's kill before the lion. Rather he gets the scraps and is not thankful he had to do no work, save wait for the lion who earned his reward to leave some for him.

So say I, AkhenOsiris Amon Khu, Priest of Osiris, Proud member of the House of Osirant.

Known as Cedric among the common tongue.

You're still forcing a person into indentured servitude, to labor against their free will. All Sentient lives deserves freedom, and should not be treated like property, It does matter if these folks are well taken care of, it is an unjust act against their lives of liberty, and independence.

There will always be poverty, but that doesn't come until a change; until all the people open up their hearts and minds making a
transition, identifying the cause; and fixing it. The governments can't do it all. But the people as a whole can. The governments may have the power and money, but "we" have the strength, and numbers. By coming together numbers can defeat these "causes", and bring good to the world.

Only time will tell when you're nations will under go this refinement, but then it's a start. You my pratise acts of what you see are "good" and "just" in your opinions. But these actions maybe seen as immoral to others.

[A note is tacked up in reply]

You say it does not matter if they are well cared for which again, speaks volumes about what is really the root cause of your complaint. You care not for the welfare of the people, just their 'freedom'. Even if this 'freedom' means slow, painful death. As for opinions being immoral, who are you to say your opinion weighs better on the moral scale? Have you spoken to each slave and found they would rather be 'free' to starve and die of thirst rather then to work for a good master that tends them and cares for them?

Would you call a child born to a parent that is 'sentient' a slave that must bow to their parents?

What exactly do you think marks 'sentience'? The ability to talk? To think? You think animals can not do this yet you do not think them 'sentient' obviously for you are not crying out for the ox and the pig and the hen to be free.

You say it is unjust yet, the law states it is just so again, by who's authority do you think it is unjust? A slave has no liberty save what is given to them by their master. No independence save when they have earned their freedom, be that by heroic act or long years of service.

You can be poor and still be better off then others. Our people do not want for food, shelter and the blessings given to life and the security they will not become walking dead when the time comes for them to journey to the afterlife.

You do not address the many points I made, just again, saying that you feel it is unjust to own another person. This is your opinion, not a law. The law is that it is right and just to own another person within our lands. That if you do so, you also have certain responsibilities to that person. To feed them, take care of them, house them. Is this not what is expected of an employer to one in their employ?

What of your lords and kings? Do they not tie the people to their land, called, Serfs I believe, and can stop them from travel? Does not a king make the laws?

Would you have criminal not be jailed? Their freedom is being curtailed is it not? And they surely feel they are not worthy of this. Just ask one, they will normally profess their innocence! That they were wrongly jailed!

Freedom is not a right. Freedom is not simply given. It must be earned. Otherwise, it holds no value for the person you would say is free. Our people know this and those that are free value their freedom. They hold it dear. A slave can aspire to be free and has a chance to become so. And the highest land owner can also have their lands taken and be placed into slavery for breaking our laws. We have an ordered society, blessed and rich. Perhaps you should travel to our lands and know better of what you speak rather then simply reading others words and letting their view taint yours.

So say I again.

A notice is placed up within Cordor, after a certain guard collected information from the other posts on people of interest.

To whom it may concern,

Within the walls of Cordor we have very clear laws stating our stance on slavery. It is bluntly illegal, anyone whom conducts such within the city will shortly find themselves slaveless with a large fine, partly to the city and partly to their previous slave for back payment.

While we of the Dale denounce slavery in our western sense, we will not decry the customs and traditions of those kind enough to offer us aid in the East. The wagons may be home now, but we will forever be grateful to those that sheltered us in our time of need and will extend to them the same courtesies that they had extended to us.

A scowling mostly miserable looking male drow pauses on his travels through the dale and reads the notice with a grumble about illogical condemnation and scrawls his own opinion.

Slavery:
The state or condition of being a slave; a civil relationship whereby one person has absolute power over another and controls his/her life, liberty, and fortune.

That definition sums up slavery at its best, slavery that is evident in the cruelty of Drow and Orcs who abuse their slaves and treat them like objects of cruel amusement, in the wickedness of Kobolds and Duergar who work their slaves to death, in the Ogres, Gnolls and Goblin kind who consider their slaves toys and livestock to be brutalized and eaten at their whims. That is just to name the most mundane sources of true and terrible slavery that plague the world, not the mind slavery or soul slavery practiced by Ilithids or fiends, nor the countless and truly terrible slavers among the race of men such as Thay or Calimsham one of the countless nations closer to the sword coast that are slavers.

What you call Slavery in much of the Old Empires and namely Mulhorand is a crude and poor term for a system of laws bound to strong moral and ethical beliefs. You decry and belittle their culture as slavers yet what of the Serfs who toil for lords through out the west? What of the Thrall who serves the Jarl in the North? They to can rise above their lowly status, are protected by their lords laws in exchange for toil and are considered property. Yet you deem the most viable target for your ill conceived assumptions of what warrants slavery to a people who are no less or more slavers then the Baron to his Serf or Jarl to his Thrall.

You do is target one system and structure that does not fit strictly in what should be called slavery by any account. While the originator of this public outcry may not be a hypocrite they certainly have an odd sense of slavery and whom should be slandered and spoken against publicly. If they truly cared about the freedom of others or the defamation of slavers they would start closer to the Sword Coast and with truly evil and cruel peoples who do keep slaves.
