Looking for a general DM -opinion- (do not read as ruling) on taking "substitution skills" for feats that do not exist in NWN but do in PnP. An example I'd like to use is taking Craft Trap as a substitute for Craft Wondrous Item. This could also naturally extend to substituting actual feats, for PnP feats, or even Job Ranks for feats.
I recognize that this could be a slippery slope, and would imagine that any such substitution would require a request and probably notation in the character's description for easy DM reference. I'm also -not- looking for any sort of concrete ruling here. What I'm hoping for is to get a general feel of how the DMs view such substitutions from both a mechanical and an RP standpoint.
I know many people probably skirt over this and simply RP having the abilities, or put them in part and parcel with another, existing skill or feat. I've always preferred to make the RP and mechanics match as close as possible personally, and I want to see what the general staff opinion on this is.

Call me completely bonkers and I'm not a dm but looking at wondrous items it seems like you could manage with a combination of mythal crafting and craft wand/brew potion.

It depends on the context but I can tell you right away that it wouldn't be... Craf tTrap.

Perhaps Spellcraft.

No.
Here's a hint: You emulate feats with a FEAT.

*nods* I'd considered that too, despite the limited choice of feats.
So for example, taking Skill Focus (Craft Trap). It's still within the same general realm as the desired feat, and is itself a feat.
*edit*
And I suppose it would be safe to say that, even with substitutions, most DMs would likely treat the PnP Feats just like PnP Spells, on a case by case basis.

Yep. I would say that if you want to emulate Craft Wonderous Item, just take craft wand or brew potion. They all fall within the same realm.

Well, I was just going to stick with the one example for the most part but...
What's say someone wanted the actual Craft Wand and Brew Potion feats for actually Crafting Wands and Brewing Potions? Then you'd still want to substitute something else for another crafting feat, yes?

Not really, IMO. You could either lump them together. Or, to emulate brew potion at least, take a rank or two in the alchemy job, if you're really set on it. Alchemy lets you brew some potions anyway as it is.
