With our smaller playerbase, it's harder and harder to find someone not only capable, but willing to make wands of Death Ward. Being that is is a very important spell for some areas of the server, I propose that Death Ward scrolls be made available at the Gauntlet in Brog. This way, it takes a bit of work to get them, but, they are available.

Other scrolls that are available for reference:
Improved Invisibility
Premonition
Greater Spell Breach
Greater Spell Mantle

I'd think Death Ward is on par or lower power than some of those, so it makes sense to include it, IMHO.

Thanks.

Alternatively I would suggest making IC postings about them. I know of several characters, both active and semi-active, that are able to make them.

I can't comment on if it's wanted to put them in the shop, just a possible solution.

There are no areas of the server where Death Ward is a necessity (that i can think of) except for one weird (non epic) outlier that only does it if it's AI bugs out. No standard spawn (outside the one) has Death Magic, and we don't balance shops and gear around +5 bosses as a general rule - we don't really care if they're "unfair" for solo fights.

If you can note which areas spam death spells so much that Death Ward is a necessity to set foot there, please let us know. It's more likely we'll change those monsters rather than add more scrolls to a shop to be spammed by UMD users. Fixing these monsters and giving them less save or die spam will make the server more interesting in general.

The one area I can think of (that is not an epic boss) is the Electric castle and Ayeron.

Other than that the others are all epic and bosses. Namely Babylon at the Yuan-Ti, The Darkness and the Pirate at the Alamber Sea.

And frankly even Ayeron is the dungeon boss

The ghosts of Whispering Rift have a death pulse. Braxat Shamans have Finger of Death in their spellbook. I think I might recall Wails somewhere in the Gauntlet?

Since I'm not sure I'm allowed to spoil here, yes, there are some in the Gauntlet.

It was only a suggestion based off of the other things available, but... here's the list:

Electric Castle
Area before the Gauntlet
Whispering Rift
Braxat Shamans
Pirate (boss)
Darkness (boss)
Babylon (boss)

So, sure some are Epic areas, but the Electric Castle is far from Epic and if I recall correctly was changed only months ago to -include- the death magic.

I'm no expert, but I really don't see how adding death ward scrolls is so unbalancing, I mean they'd likely be 6k a pop and last for 7 minutes, and they're not necessary for 90% of the server. Why would this one thing be so overpowering to do? I just don't understand. There have been a lot of changes lately, causing changes in balance, and this one thing would throw all that off?

Not intended to sound snarky, I'm genuinely curious about some of these changes and where they fit in the grand scheme of things.

Can all classes use the scrolls?

yeah. i was lower level and a dm prodded me to enter the electric castle saying nobody ever did it.

once I did the first pack and saw 4/5 wails fly out and almost get me (i had like +7 fort save) I just got the fuck out of dodge.

it's a real shame as that area would be cool and could be used for leveling if every pack didn't contain multiple enemies that just spam save or die. even with max fort odds are not in your favor to survive the whole thing; there's just too many wailing enemies. so back to minos I went.

Nothing casts Wail of the Banshee in Electric Castle, unless there was an update I missed this year or I am forgetting completely.

walnutboy wrote:

Doubtful, likely would be only for Cleric/Druid unless you have UMD.

they are called something like 'death screamer' or 'death howler' and just spam wail at a DC of 18 iirc. apparently you did miss an update because you got multiple people in here incl dm's telling you they do.

I was just about to rescind that statement, I'm there now and wtf. They have never done that since I have been here.

that's why literally nobody does that place at the proper level.

it's a real head-scratcher as to why that kind of enemy was included.

why do people just do spiders into minos into fire giants when they level?

go to other area -> get totally annihilated for far less xp

If you do minos to fire giants you are doing it wrong. People hop to beastmen/quags after minos. Then it's usually Brog orcs then frost giants. Unless something has changed in those places, too.

Also why does the EC boss have Greater Ruin >_> And all those spells <_<

glimquisition?

also it's way more xp/min to keep doing minos/desert mobs over beastmen until you can do fire giants safely. there are just so many more mobs per pack you get less xp each but clear so many so fast it ends up being shitloads faster.

So scrolls wouldn't help those that can't already cast it and don't build a character with sneaky bard or rogue level in to capitalise on UMD... guess wands or items are a little more universal in that case.

Well, those who can cast it and Rangers, since they are also on the list.

I tend to avoid places that need it as ICly I have yet to get anything I can use which has it. Group activities are different as I normal beg for a ward in most cases off clerics, druids or sneaky types with umd! heh :D

As far as I'm aware any scroll for ranger use would need to be made by either a druid or cleric. Pretty sure the one I was shown by a mage was unusable for my class. I run beastmen for fun, giants too but the cost to gain in mindblank and healing for me on that one tends to stop me after a while, that's before I count the arrows. I was curious about electric castle but if DW is needed right now... not likely to wander there.

O... the braxat. That place is so direly unused (and the monsters poorly ade imho) that I didn't even think about it.

The ghosts have a drown pulse, you are right. That should be removed.

Wails in the gauntlet - eh. It's the Gauntlet, you know?

Quote:
Electric Castle
Area before the Gauntlet
Whispering Rift
Braxat Shamans
Pirate (boss)
Darkness (boss)
Babylon (boss)

EC should be changed
Gauntlet is gauntlet, as said
Whispering rift should be changed
Every single monster in the Ash Caverns should be gutted and redone, it's a terrible trvaesty of both theme and mechanics, seriously it's unabashedly awful.
3 +5 bosses - no sympathy here.

there are the same mobs per pack.

As a side note, what level is EC seriously made for? 25? I mean, yeah, we are talking about changing it, but to list the requirements:
-Survive wails (will likely be removed)
-Be strong enough to survive the maze without summons, because they always bug up and don't follow through the mirrors
-Survive a neutral fear aura, so no prot vs good or evil
-Survive undisarmable epic electic traps (at least evil)
-Have a tank live through Greater Ruin
-Deal damage to sneak immune monsters

So, now... Seriously, what level can do all of that, if you are not ina group of at least three people? One buffer, one tank and a damage dealer... At the point where you can actually do that, your xp there is terrible.

Prior to the weird change it was about level 12 or 15 I think. Even without counting the boss you should be able to survive it around that level, just need MB pots (which is far preferred over Prot from Align anyways) for the wails that should go as well. The boss just completely makes the area terribad, though.

Some of the witches on Cairagh cast wail of banshee as well.

Are you suggesting that MB potions save against Wails? If so... that's news to me.

Yeah Caraigh at night goes from like what 8-30 all based off what you trigger, from weaker ghouls and zombies to Skeleton/archers....or if your super unlucky skeletal knights or witches ((that are spawned like epic bosses, one per reset))

Witches are crazy mondo 30+ slayer spawns. Same argument as +5 bosses there, don't mind if they do death magic.
