What is up with the Shadow Realm? I've been there on two seperate surfacer characters, and the NPC tells me some pretty scary things about death. I've asked other players in game about it, and they say they haven't been there.

Can someone explain what is up with it?

Are you talking about the place you go when you die for the first time?

That place is apart of a bygone era thats a tribute to an old player that died of cancer. Your meant to remember them. Issue is that maybe only two people on the server remember this player. All honesty it needs to be removed. It has no place on Amia.

If you mean something else, such as the fugue plane, then I'm not to sure. I haven't died in a while.

If you mean the shadowplane, in which you enter via a portal on the surface. Then that place has nothing to do with death, and your asking the wrong people.

It is a place with a bridge. There is a single drow NPC who warns me that if I die again, I probably won't be coming back.

I've been to the fugue with my drow. But my surfacers, go to this place. I haven't died more then once on any of my surfacers, so I'm not sure what will happen next.

thats just the place where you go when you die the first time, you get a free rez, the next time you die and respawn you will end up in the fugue plane, and have to pay in exp/gold.

There is no logic behind it or whatever, just see it as a nice little gesture from the original creators of Amia.

Pretty much, yes. Speaking as one of the two who actually remember, I'm not miffed either way at this point, but removing it on any basis tends to come off as a bit spiteful, imo. It comes down to "How soon is too soon" and "how long is long enough", and no one wants to be involved in those arguments re: death and tragedies.

As somebody who never knew the player... It's easily ignored as non-canonical, seeing as most of Amia is non-canonical anyways, and besides that I think that, for a 'least you could do', it's quite a generous tribute just to have kept it for so long.

I like Vyper and see no reason to remove her. It is a touching tribute to a deceased player I never knew, but a sad smile do come to my lips whenever I get there.

I say keep her.

It's never a bad thing to play a game that lets you know that, even after you're gone, the people you've touched will still live on to remember you and what you've done.

Tributes are best left to weather and turn to nothing on their own. Just as Amia and Arileth will one day close down, so do all things end in their due time, as such I see no reason for it to go away till then. Everything that grows has roots in the past, even a game module. People have some things they'd rather forget, some things they never want to; but without those things you wouldn't be where you are today. Obviously that person meant a lot to someone, even if that person isn't here anymore. It just isn't the proper thing to be doing or getting into a debate over doing really.

On that note, I'd like to request this be locked.

Perhaps a sign to describe what the tribute is for, and who the person is. That would make it more meaningful. To the current generation of players, its mostly just an NPC whom they meet once, never see again, and have no idea why it's even part of the module.

I have to admit I was kinda surprised when I first saw the NPC. But being the nosy person I am (for I love profiles!) I quickly found out on that first visit. I wasn't around back then, but I was touched at the gesture it represented.

I was going to say that maybe making the NPC always be the one you talk to about going back (and moving them to the Fugue) would make sense in a way, and also help preserve lore (mostly) and the idea, but I dunno if that would be 'too much'.

As for 'when has it been long enough' questions, that's hard to say. The logical person in me says something nice and even like five years is enough, but the other part of me says there is no good answer *shrug*

There is no lore. Please don't try to make any.

By 'lore' I meant the fact that when people die they go to the Fugue Plane. I didn't mean the NPC is lore, heh.
Twas only a suggestion, even though I don't think it'd work out and the current way of doing things is fine, plus there'd have to be several changes to make it work so I don't think it's be 'worth' it.

Amia, no matter how much we love it, is still a game and has eastereggs/stuff for the community that may not fit in with the lore of the game, but is still nice to have around because it shows another side to the whole game.

Oh my god, I never knew this. I always treated her as an NPC one of the creators couldn't think of anything better for, and was just never brought up. I feel their original decision should be respected.

I'd say to just leave it. To those who do know it's a touching tribute, and to those who don't it does no harm.
