I have a mage in epic levels now, taking EMD soon, and totally confused about them. Virtually no info on the forums other than what's mentioned in the recent summons update thread and few other threads where I always read Construct is best by far.

The two that would fit my PC are Construct (Geared Guardian) or Neutral Outsider (Githzerai Savant).
With recent changes, how do they compare now? What're your experiences with new summons?

• Construct: Geared Guardian

- Regeneration on Geared Guardian was halved.
- Power Attack was removed.
- AB was reduced to compensate for removal of power attack. Net positive of AB without PA active.

• Neutral: Githzerai Savant

- Damaged increased significantly.
- Power Attack removed and IKD granted.
- The Githzerai was designed to be an anti mage tank and as a result its SR has increased.

It is an almost unwritten rule when it comes to the summons that if you wish to learn more about them then you should pursue it IC.

Both summons are now competitive so pick something that fits your RP the most.

I don't know either, and I would love to know the answer to that question myself. I've been leaning toward the Sirrush, maybe get it reskinned into some aquatic beast or something, but maybe the elemental is better?

The exact numbers must remain as mysterious as possible, of course, much as how all the other specific game mechanics are also.

This was discussed a while back. The proposed solution would be that a group of mages ICly study the creatures to best determine their roles in combat. That way, no specifics are given out, but players have an IC way of knowing generally what each is capable of, so each character is better able to ICly choose what best fits their skillset.

As far as I know, no one has taken it upon themselves to do that footwork.

Be constructive or don't post, council. you could ask this same question without the sarcasm.

That was barely confrontational as far as I'm concerned, just a laugh.

I've never heard a good explanation for why certain specifics about game mechanics are such closely guarded secrets, while most of the character building topics are so refined there are cookie cutter molds and interactive spreadsheets to optimize down to fractions. When it comes to monsters and NPCs I totally agree they should be secret, but splitting hairs about character building is so weird. I will never understand. It's not even like each character will be required to discover the specifics on their own, the moment one person cracks the code every other powerbuilder will have that data from now until the next time they get changed.

From the outside it just feels like a forced, artificial mystery with a heavy cost ("this choice cannot be changed").

I agree with you completely Council and appreciate your comments. Staff's position on this is bizarre and nonsensical at best. Such are the times we live in.

Why is any build information available. Why are spell changes or class changes posted? By this standard all module specific build information should be "find out IC". Whatever.

I'll just take my chances. Thanks everyone for all the helpful info.

And Tormak, seriously?

Sheesh. Is that ever the pot calling the kettle black.

The reason spell changes and class changes are posted is because of the reality that the information pertaining to those classes were 99% available to the public before Amia even became a server. Changes are posted because it is fair, just like how EMD changes are even posted.

The EMD redesign was done originally for the express purpose of allowing everyone to have a summon that fit their character/theme/and rp. It removed it always being an undead. Now with that said if we released every little bit of information pertaining to EMD then it would be worse than it is now with 90% of the people running around with a Construct.

Bizarre and nonsensical? No. The staff would just like the playerbase to be swayed more by their roleplay on this -roleplay- server instead of numbers and power.

For the record, I strongly object to "last word" posts by DMs after a topic has been locked.

Sun Dog, if you would like to reopen the topic for discussion, just drop me or any DM a PM.
