The smoke burns into the sky as the pyre of a brave warrior is left at Minmir. The weapons and armor offered burn within' also. His companions depart slowly, each one leaving after the Tempurian Cleric departs. One stays and speaks with the adventurers who came to investigate the smoke in the distance.

Words are exchanged, stories are given. Of activity in the quagmires, of potential war, and the unwinding of alliances. The man leaves, but not before saying his goodbyes. Slowly the pyre burns out, and all that remains is cinders. No signs of arms or armor are left. Just a blackend patch on the ground.

Brief words of prayer were uttered; protective magic left as vigil to protect the remains of the man as he completed his journey into ash. The female carrying the icon of Red Knight and her stout, male companion left the pyre soon after.

Kaithan took a moment to honor the man who had fallen in battle against a common enemy, casting an elf-made arrow into the flames of the pyre as it consumed the soldier's mortal remains. Troubled by the subsequent conversation with one of the soldiers of Tempus who had lingered afterwards, she then returned to Winya Ravana to summarize the soldier's tales in a report to her colleagues on the Council.

*Over the course of a week it becomes clear that adventurers who rest or stay put are most likely targeted in the quagmires. Any who are killed or captured find themselves not taken back for "eating" or "desceration" but instead, displayed in front of the mercenary camps, impaled on crude pikes. The guards often explain to those who are found that they have been under attack for a while now, and if not for the choke point, they would have been swarmed and done with.

Its clear to any in the quagmires that the lizards have gotten stronger. The small bands still roam, but stronger, better trained and smarter breeds of lizard lurk the quagmires. A blood driven fevor shining in their eyes. At times common erupts from their mouths, speaking of blood gods, and war. They shake their spears high to the sky, dreaming of coming glorious conquest.

All the while, the drums of war still beat.*

A war band of about ten Lizardkin and their summons storm toward the Mercenaries Camp, leaving a disgusting display of guts and the head of a human male on a stake just outside the camp itself. They scream in guttural rage toward the camp, before leaving.

They chant as they march off, mostly unintelligible yells of rage.

A new head, one of a female, and more body parts are displayed in front of the Mercenaries Camp, with further threatening chants and yells toward the camp. It's been a bloody two days.

The War Drums echo, but not where they are usually heard. From the depths of Amia Forest the drums of battle beat. A Warband of several lizard folk enter the forest silent from the Shekat Valley, and then begin their murderous rampage within' the green heart. Adventurerd fight, and are felled. Lizardkin fall also, but only a few in number. This warband rampages through the adventuers, led by a lizard kin dressed in golden armor, wielding a sword that reaks of evil. After a pitched battle, and many felled enemies, the band of lizards retreat once more to the north, knowing more adventurers will be on the way.

Left behind is death. Corpses lie within' the poppies and grass of the Amia Forest. A Road Wardens corpse is sprawled upon the ground, a sign that even the neutral will not be given mercy. The sudden unexpected strike has clearly been effective. The fog of battle passes, and the wardrums are no longer heard. But the lizardfolk have made it known to all, they are looking at more then just their swamp now, and all should be concerned.

The explosion of firey death shook the Mercenary Encampment, the hisses of the lizards outside could be heard as the triadic knights and their allies lay dead upon the encampments now charred ground. Outside the camp, behind the horde of lizards known as the Elite Warband, a circle of robed figures with green tails, left the battlefield, walking into the swamps. The High Shamans of the Quagmire Lizards had been witnissed, their power unmatched, unchallenged, and completely underestimated, with one spell they destroyed the allies. With tactics they gathered them close.

Tactics, War, Savagery and Destruction. The flames licked the wood of the barricades, like this conflict licking the edge of a war.

Past that, she's unseen, save for scrying...

A small skirmish takes place on Minmir Bridge. Six lizard archers deliver an ambush against elves purposely lured from Winya Ravena. No mages are spotted with the archers. Through their magic the elves defeat the lizards, but who could say who'd win if the lizards had their own mages. Even with this the elves still suffer casualties, and one lizard his clearly escaping into the river after the battle.

For the first time in a long while, the quagmires stood silent. Silent of the drums of war, silent of the chanting and the blades, silent of all motion except that which invaded it's territory. The Western area of the Quagmires, closest to the Mercenary Encampement, shows the signs of a massive battle. Scarring from spells and the bodies of lizards lie everywhere. Blood shows the spots where adventurers fell wounded or dying from the blades of the lizard elite. One pile of rocks, half covers a heavily charred Lizard Corpse in gold armor. The dreaded champion had fallen, his legend struck down as it was in the making. Around the stones pooled fresh blood that billowed from beneath the rocks, more bloody then one body should hold infact. A foul sign indeed.

The battle had been hard fought. The win for the adventurers and their army was not a sure one. Many on both sides fell equally, and perhaps if not for Tymora's gaze or perhaps that of Tempus who decides the outcome of Wars & Battles, the fight could have easily gone the other way. Of particular note to the combatants may have been the lack of the Lizardkin's Shamans, reputed sorcerers well known in the region for being extremely powerful in old magicks, as well as tale and culture. A worrying thought for those who may one day find themselves at the mercy of the lizards once more.

Despite the battle, the mystery of the Blood God still remains shrouded in secert. The goals of the lizards are still unknown, or why they act after so very long. Many questions remain, and only silence seems to be the answer given. To those that fought, to those that died, perhaps the silence is comforting from the roars of battle. For those that have the knownledge however, the silence may be the scariest foretelling of all...

//Thank you for a wonderful battle. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed presenting it.

Sir Robert looked down upon the the fallen champion he had slain. His armor was covered in his own blood, and that of the dreaded champion. His gaze drifted to Willow who stood next to him, worn as he was, and then to the rest - a heap of mortally wounded men and women mostly of the Grove. Dragging Crow from the pool in which his corpse floated, they began to raise the dead and aid the wounded before they retreated. Only Sir Robert and Vindel, his most capable and loyal house mage, remained behind to bury the champion as such an opponent deserves.

::Vindel whipped his tunic. Slapping mud and gore from his garment. The battle was a blur. Quick but lasted forever. The challenges where getting more and more intense, but yet Vindel knew it will only get harder from here.
"what is a war band of religious lizard-folk doing without sending in Clerical support" he would ask in his head. "Maybe we need to just be even more prepared, because we are just fighting foot soldiers".His head would say as he placed the last rock on top of the dead commander as it bursts into flames. Vindel would look over to Sir Robert, as they departed the swamps.::

For now, she's resting. Having borne her son recently, she's taking a bit of a break...all of it to her eyebrows in books.

Over the past months the swamps have been quiet, with only the normal bands of roving lizards seeking unwary Adventurers. No large groups have been seen since the gigantic battle with the Lizard Champion, and as a result, the memory of the event has taken a back stage to more immediate concerns. The vultures and various carnivorous swamp life forms remember still however, as they feed on the rotting carcasses of the dead. A month or two drags by, and nothing much is seen from the swamp-lands, so close to numerous civilized havens. Though a feeling of unwavering danger still lurks over the damp lands, nothing with evidence, but enough to keep the mercenary camp guards vigilant on watch.
