Can someone point out to me what is the problem i am having with my nwn.

I bought a new PC so now im trying to run the game with windows 7.

Ill try starting the game and it gives the nwn logo on the box and then nothing. well this part was old news, and in past it could be fixed by running the game as administrator. tried it, also tried various compatibility modes but nothing seems to work.

What kind of graphic card does your new PC have? Nvidia Gforce?

I had two problems with the Windows 7 and Gforce problem.

First problem was to get the game running aswell. It worked under "XP mode" however (and that still happens) for some odd reasons Windows 7 couldn't determin what NWN version I was running (though it was the current updated version). So somwhere in the background, hidden there was a tiny window with "Sorry, we couldn't determin which NWN version you are running, you might want to update just in case" or something along those lines. NWN then only started once I pressed ok here. Took me a while to even find that message though as it was really nastily hidden in the background.

The second problem was the frames running too low and the game was quite unplayable. That however was a graphic driver issue which was solved with the new nvidia driver.

Edited my first post. Check if you have an odd message somewhere in the background where it asks you something about the game version.

Just checking, but have you patched the game to 1.69?

Okay, next step. Are you running nwnmain.exe directly (as administrator. Compatibility mode should not be required). Also, have you updated windows 7?

And you are running it under Windows XP compatibility mode yes?

Hrm... The default windows 7 security sometimes causes some issue, but it usually asks if you want to allow certain programs to run or not.

Did you install the game new or did you copy in your old game-folder?

installed it yup. and ran on xp, as administrator. but now the new ati drivers fecked me up royally and my pc no longer recognises the graph card which is very weird. anyhow, restored the system and lost nwn on process. so i guess ill try installing again later tonight or tomorrow. maybe i have better luck then. doubt it though.

i hate this.....

ati drivers are fun that way..

Look for the beta drivers and try those, they fixed it for me when I used an ATI card.

Are you using a laptop or a "tower" PC? If using the former, you need to download drivers only form the manufacturer of the laptop. If the latter, make sure the drivers you get match your OS exactly, though most wont let you install them if they don't. Again, make sure you install all the updates for Win7 as well.

Since when? :F

There are a few instances where ATI drivers did break NWN, yes, but if they make your card not be recognized, then something is very wrong.

Yes, unlike some previous incarnations of the ATI drivers which would literally blow up my windows when I ran NWN, the current ones seem to be stable, to the point i haven't had any crashes when running NWNShader. Providing everything is isntalled fine and there arent any other underlying conflicts, you should not have any problems running NWN with ATI drivers. The latests beta Nvidia ones seem to produce similar effects on my wifes rig too, both requiring only running as admin (due to the way NWN handles file), no compatibility mode. ATI cards need the shiny water option switched off.

well reinstalling now. fingers crossed that this time the nwn will actually start. im gonna run the critical rebuild straight without trying to update via update option that comes with the game. propably makes no difference though.

this is BS since i bought the platinum edition of the game and it says windows 7 compatible. glad it cost only 3,99 euros

The W's will help speed this along.

What kind of rig is it, detailed as possible. Hardware etc

Where in the world are you, could be a locational thing no matter how unlikely it is.

What kind of windows you running, Win 7 64 bit or 32 bit?

Ensure you check your NWN folder to see if there is an error text or ini file being created when you boot up NWN.

Also have you tried not just the desktop shortcut but trying to boot from the folder itself, and further more open the toolset I believe there is an option to start NWN from there as well.

Are you on the administratior account of your Windows? Do you have permission to install what virus scanning and whatnot are you using is your virus prot actively blocking NWN. No detail is to trivial or small, post it all. Screencaps or a video capture of it happening would go that extra step too.

The only way I get my nwn to work on a windows 7 is to run "nwnmain" (not any of the others) directly from the folder. This skips the part that doesent work and lands you into the main menu.

I hope this works for you.

You need to update to 1.69. Prior versions of nwn do not have the ability to run on windows vista/ windows 7. They do something which those Operating systems identify as bad behaviour and squash it.

If you are, then run windows update and make sure you have all the updates, one of them enabled NWN to run as well, past the security settings.

Well I'm going to throw this out there but im not sure if it is a fix.

Ive had games before that I was just simply unable to run with my computer set up, so I installed virtual PC and installed Windows XP on it and used it to play those games. It might be a somewhat round about fix, or it might not be a fix at all. Just throwing it out there
