This is another Alternative Beginnings questline, like the ones run by Bobo, Kjetta, and Cobbit. This questline centers around events not happening on Amia Island proper, though are relatively close. Mulhorand is pushing out on its final conquest of Unther and is making headway towards Messemprar, one of Unther's last bastions before the nation is completely conquered by the Godking Pharoah Horustep II. The player characters will play mercenaries, or members of Mulhorand's army proper. This will be decided by me, based on the makeup of the party, and will be relayed along with backstory to the player characters before the campaign starts. This campaign is for new characters only. If your character has a standing association with Mulhorand, and by this, I mean a recognized, legitimate reason to have possibly been drafted by Mulhorand for use in the war effort, I will consider your character for a advisorial, non combat cameo, but I promise nothing.

What you can expect from this: A cool (I hope) tailored campaign in a war setting, with you as warriors and mercenaries, but NOT as "heroes"/"superheroes". You can expect 300 (i.e. a small company using tactics withstanding a large force). You cannot expect Dynasty Warriors (i.e. 1 man cleaving through thousands and still going strong). You can expect a lot of one on one time with me so if you can't stand me or hate my guts or something, this might not be the best thing for you to apply for. You can expect to take part in a server story that will have the potential to advance the world timeline and affect events that will probably not do a whole lot on Amia itself, but will affect the rest of Faerun.

Length is undecided, and it will in theory be happening on the same day most every week, likely a Saturday or a Sunday. This is subject t change because I work retail and that's how life goes, but you will in theory always have a week's notice if it will be a different day. Just as I will be committing, I expect players to commit, so if you do not have a day a week to set aside for what could be a lengthy event, please do not send in a PC application for this event. I will be taking 5 PCs.

Death is possible. IF your character dies, it will likely be permadeath, barring it being a DM mistake or some such. If all characters die, the campaign is over, withpotentially world affecting consequences. You are cogs of a military machine, and not yet renowned heroes, and Mulhorand cannot afford to ressurect every fallen warrior in a war effort. Any character that survives the war will be integrated into the Amian setting and allowed to go forth as any other character might... albeit having hand a hand in history.

There are restrictions for player characters taking part in this campaign:

1: Characters must not be evil aligned. These characters will be working as a coherent group for Mulhorand's victory. There is no room for inter party subterfuge and betrayal. Arguments are expected, but group coherency is also expected. Please be able to work with your fellow characters.

2: Characters must be able to take orders. This doesn't mean your character can't be Chaotic aligned, but this is a military setting and you will recieve orders from your superiors. Disobeying them will carry their own consequences just like it would in any military situation.

3: Characters MUST, NO EXCEPTIONS, be of one of the following races: Human (Mulan), Human (Chult: To be roleplayed as Rashemi), Human (Durpari), Aasimar, Half Elf (your human parent be one of the above). Male or female, there are no exceptions to this rule. If you wish to play an Aasimar, your bio must detail which Mulhorandi god your Aasimar traces lineage to. Do not take this as a request to play a "God child", it is simply Mulhorandi custom due to the region's history.

4: There are no class restrictions, except Cleric and Paladin. If your character is a Mulhorandi or Aasimar Cleric or Paladin, you must make your character of standing nobility. You need not research a canon noble house, but all Mulhorandi Clerics and Paladins are hereditary positions and of noble standing, and this canon will be held to. Besides this, no class contains restrictions.

5: Characters will begin at level 3 and receive experience as doled out by me. Combat experience at the end of each session will be reversed and I will hand out experience by hand. No levelups should be taken unless it is given by DM experience. In effect: Pen and Paper style. Items and gold will be handled in much the same way. Do not expect "Shops", etc.

6: There is no resting unless I say so. If I see you rest when you aren't supposed to I will force you to expend abilites/etc and re damage you until you are at your pre rest state. Again. Sort of PnP theme here going...

Questions can be posted in this thread. Characters should be PMed to me with the header "Alternate Beginnings Character." I will choose 5. If you don't get a reply from me you weren't chosen. DMs and their characters are not eligible. When we have our party we will begin working out times and dates and etc. This unfortunately means I must give slight preference to people who can show up in the timezones that I can be around for. I apologize in advance for any timing issues.

You state the group are in Godking Pharoah Horustep II's army, right?
If one were to make a noble Thayan Mulan cleric, do you expect her to follow a specific God then?

Quote:
The Mulhorandi Mulan typically worship the Mulhorandi Pantheon, the old gods such as Isis, Horus, Osiris, Thoth, and the rest. Thayan Mulan tend to worship the more traditional human pantheon, with higlhights including Kossuth, Velsharoon, Bane, Mask, Oghma, and many more

This means the 'Turn off XP Given by mobs' Trigger, in the rest menu, will be used frequently.

Not allowed. Thay and Mlhorand are in a state of constant war with each other. Thay actually sends secretive help to Unther. Mulhorandi Mulan only.

I'd be interested in this Tormy, but I have no idea what kind of character to make aside from something that'd fit your parameters.

Actually, do you know if there are any Monastic orders in Mulhorand?

Aye. Backing out due to being European... I know from experience that it never works. Once or twice it clicks - But not in the long run

I know next to nothing about Mulhorand! Or the deities aside from names and alignments. I can look it up, but I'm curious where to find the best information about modern Mulhorand comparatively to the historical context (which is still only very basic) so I can understand it better. It's sort of Egypt-ish, correct? That's what I've gotten from all the Mulhorand-ish experience I've had with Sam in Khem.

I might be able to take part, though would depend on day. Have work on sundays at varying times, though could do Saturdays, depends on time, since I'm european. ;(

For those of you who want to be up to date with Mulhorands lore or help with your characters you can either ask myself or hendrack, or alternately you only need four books:

Lost Empires of Faerun
Powers and Pantheons
Faiths and Pantheons
Old Empires of Faerun

That said their is a ton of information in both.

Aww, you're taking the mummy-huggers' side? :(

That said, awesome idea! I'm eager to see what you do with the greater storyline. Too bad the timezones and my low commitment are a show-stopper.

I am very interested in applying, my only question is when will the deadline for apps be? I'd need to do a bit of lore searching, but that would only be to make the app up to what I'd think the standard is!

If I hadn't been in Bobo's I'd likely apply to this one. however, I fear, it would simply become an alt I rarely have time to play :( Good luck though to those that apply! The concept sounds awesome Tormak!

Depends ob what you define late afternoons and evenings. Feel free to apply anyways, though! I mean things like 5 PM and later my time, typically. After dinner shenanigans.

I'd love to do this. But I took part in Bobo's one and never continued the character, so it seems a bit greedy, especially since I'll likely not end up continuing any character I make for this.

So I'll just sit here and seethe in jealousy.

Ah well. Sounds like a good concept.

Apparently that is a very common theme... Unfortunaely I work nights and I have a strict "No NWN before work" policy because I don't want to be involved in an event or RP and need to ditch for work.

The Durpari in the event are assimilated Durpari. They represent one of the largest minorities in Mulhorand. From my conversations with Tormak I do believe that is the Durpari he is talking about. That said its ultimately his decision.

Yups. If you're a naval warrior you need to be the kind that will fit into a military situation. A bogstandard pirate probably doesn't fit too well, sorry.. Even if you're a band of mercs you'd still be serving Mulhorand.

Bah, damn my dyslexic typing. I was reading the Shining South and the image on page 26 caught my eye as I was typing my reply and meant to say Maquar Crusader which is out due to the whole Assimilation thing.

I will defer to Mosh here. If you can convince King Khem why that character would or could viably be in the Mulhorand army, I will allow it. But if he says no, I say no too.

I'm guessing the Rashemi you want are assimilated Rashemi as well?

...can you put up a viable due date on this btw? I know that sounds childish, but due dates always help me start preparing earlier in advance. (Also, there's a few Sat/Sundays I have rehearsals on in the next six months that I might want to tell you about/let you know in advance about if they would conflict. Or if it would keep me from being able to do it at all!)
