Hey guys. I am interested in talking to some people out of character about the cult of Orcus. I want to know if someone has started a cult of orcus (or 2) on amia, and I'd like to compare notes about things like the existence of the 113th layer of the abyss (Thanatos), wheather orcus is alive or just exsists as a subtle divine power, etc. I'd like to start a character who either joins a cult of orcus or starts one... haven't decided yet.
Anyone interested or in the know? Feel free to add to the thread or send me a PM.

And I finally get that joke from DnD.

Orcus being the undead demon god, and Thanatos being the greek name of the god of death. So his realm is Thanatos. Har Har Wizards, Har Har.

Hades is the god of THE DEAD, or of the Underworld, not death, incase people want to argue.

lol yeah. D&D takes a lot from myth and legends. For instance what came first? The hobbit or the halfling?

As a conceptualized fantasy creature: The Hobbit. lets not beat it around the bush, D&D, and more or less every other fantasy game, are shamelessly ripping of LoTR.

I wouldn't call it shameless... it is a rip-off yes but Tolken himself was looking to make a modern form of anglo mythology. If anything I would call it a homage.

Isn't it great!

No one since has developed as vast and intricate a world as did he. The detail is astonishing.

Tolkien drew extensively from norse mythology in everything he did..Gandalf was even the name of a scandanvian prince or something. Im not sure that hobbits existed before he needed plucky-yet-unlikely heroes for his stories.. I could be wrong.

Do not forget that Tolkien's main focus was not LotR, that was mere spare time work (if he ever really had any).
His concentration was devoted to the Elves, always the Elves, and their fickle ways.
When I mentioned the detail of his world, I meant that primarily.

Tolkien had to draw from known mythology because that was all there was, there was no "fantasy" like we know today.
It is why he is considered the father of modern fantasy.
