Hello everyone! Sorry about the prolonged absence but i am back once again!
anyway streight to the point! while i was on "sams server" they had an open subrace systome somwhat like here (theres was perhaps too open with having 100 subraces but thats beside the point). anyway i noticed that one subrace that brought a lot of good rp was the gnoll.. while i wont pretend to know how or even if it could work here i thought i would throw the idea out there for debate, dm responces are especialy welcome.

It would be nice to have gnoll as an option, but this has been brought up numerous times and I believe it has been decided that no new subraces will be added to the system.

Mmm, I'd like a few more subraces (Maybe 3 or 4 more), but even if it was decided to implement them, I'd like to see the hak pack and shifter updates arrive first. No point giving the Chicken more things to stress over.

Every time one of these comes up, it's essentially met with the same response.
No more subraces will be added, and the best way to go about playing a Gnoll character is to write up a really good backstory and a really good request and use your DCs for it.
Now, I'm by no means a DM, but I'm just saying that I've seen this happen many times before.

Gnoll has been suggested to death, and every time the DM's have stoned the suggester.

Since it's a DM request, it's up to the DM team to decide

i wish there was a special requests for all races apart from the normal subraces of human, elf, dwarf, halfling, gnome..and only allowed half orc(since all thier subraces are strange)...not nesssesarily a coin request..but atleast put forth good reasoning for thier chars...especially diviants.

Well, I think that if you write up an uber story about the character and show more than just intrest, but knowledge on the race/class you wish to play. You -may-, just -may-, get the green light to play the character. Which I'm all for, it keeps there from being 1001 different races running around on Amia. I mean, it's hard to have a faction of any race if there's only 1 or 2 of every race on the server.

I wish Tuigan and Chultan had never been invented, I would like to never again see a Durpar Paladin, nor a WoodElf Blackguard. That said. We can't always get what we want.

I'm surprised human subraces get ability bonuses. I know they don't in PnP.

In order for the DMs/Devs to consider scripting a new subrace, I believe it would require much more than a mild interest by players.
As little as these exotic, rare subraces would be played and properly RP'd, I think it should stick to the realm of DC/Special Character Requests.
A player should prove they have the merit to play such an exotic subrace in my opinion. I can see far too many people picking gnoll just because it's the FotM and walking around speaking Draconic and Drow and roleplaying as clerics of Lathander or something. Not to say all would do such ridiculous things, but past experiences has proven it is indeed a risk with allowing such freedom.

good points all around i suppose. i cant really say that i feel strongly on this topic eather way so i am not going to push on this one. ( i can be rather vocal as you know)
still i would like to bring up one single issue that has bugged me to death since i joined this server. i may have said this before and simply forgotten so apolagys if that is the case. why do we need to have DC's to play a subrace that has been approved in advanced? i think it should be considerd that the skinchange dc requirement be removed on the condition that the subrace approved demands it, after all why should good roleplayers be penalised for wanting to play somthing that was approved and even the staff admits is a good consept? to put things simply "bad things" happen to a players rp when the pc that they requested is apprioved in one form but it is later stqated that they must be played in another due to lack of dream coins.
a good example of this could be seen in one of my earlier pc's. he was origonaly planned out as to act like a dragon and have many of the quarks that came with such. sadly while the pc was approved and the apperience was critical to how i had him planned i didnt have enough dream coins to pay for the change! this caused my entire idea for the pc to collapse in on itself because even though in the beginning he acted ac correctly as was possable given his form; people didnt take him seriously. because of this i was forced to change the rp so drasticly just so he would make sence that he didnt even resemble the origonal request.
My point from this is as obvious as it sounds. the dream coin systome is wonderful when applied to items and later enhancements, but not for a pre approved pc.
(if you feel it nessessery you can place this as its own topic as i realise that it is very much off)

Not changing, sorry. Permanent skin changes cost 10 DCs and toggles cost 25.

Would be one of the best things ever. Out of curiousity, what did those in power think was going to happen when you introduced subraces with such mechanical advantages? What should have happened is that the info should have been put on the side bar to enhance RP *shrugs*.

It happened and I don't think anyone responsible is still here... so we can discuss this, but the point is as moot as ...umm.. something that's very moot.

Well I personally do love my chultan character and generally the chultan race.
However, I wouldn't have needed the special race stats for that. Didn't give the character (class wise) any benefit anyways.
I dislike however that many simply just pick a race because the bonuses of that subrace give their already planned powerbuild the most benefit and not because the race would fit the character-concept (RP-wise, background and so on) best.

I;d like to go back and say 'die now' to all the good drow and rdd/ dragons...
When there is more of them in a populace then you know its not to lore anyway, so why bother? Good gnoll is just as likely as a drow/rdd paladin.
Or a drow who's momm got pounded by an angel (low standards for an angel) and made a kid who screwed a dragon who made said adventurer.
Or whatever... you're evil if you're this, you're good if you're this... Very very very few exceptions. You cant all be unique and special... Jeeze, if you are all special, then you're not special!

Yes, we all know how you all hate that.
Yes, this has been brought up for discussions thousands of times before.
Yes, try to RP with some of them before judging a whole class/race RP and throwing them all in the same basket as crappy.
No, unfortunately you cannot force a player to RP the way ~you~ think is right.
No, not all drow and RDD were taken because of their class/race bonus.
No, you should not generalize whole classes/race roleplaying based on a few experiences. You might have met 3 good drow and 3 dragon disciples and thought them crappy, but there are much more players of those classes/races that RP them as they should be.
If you took this personally, PM me.
/Rant
