As someone who still regularly makes new characters (hit 10 years this month), I fondly remember the days when you could actually craft a gearset without a excessive hours of grind, but also look at the pink-stuffed bags of ancient alts who were in the post-crafting stage of their careers and see the downside.
Occasioned by the discussion about NPC stores vs drops and where the vanilla should be, I thought: Wouldn't it be nice if you found mythals at a rate that was inversely related to how many you already had?
I say 'related' rather than 'proportional' because I dunno what maths is simplest and balanceyist.

That way if you're constantly dry and using them, you're more likely to find them. An inverse relation with that sort of deal would be horrifying--for some of us.

I'd need to be more convinced that it's worth it. Scripting something that happens every time a creature dies that scans your entire inventory is deathly inefficient. We're talking thousands of lines a code a second.
If the Mythal drop rate is too low, up the drop rate, or make certain mobs always drop them?

But yes, upping the drop rate is probably a simpler solution.

Why wouldn't you just keep your mythal shards in the bank to assure best drop rate? Untenable idea.

Would always be nice to have a new dungeon to ransack and a possible RP point. But I know the devs are busy, so it's just a thought. Beldor would die from happiness.

I think the main issue is that Minor, Lesser, Intermediate and Greater mythals all have the same drop rate amongst their tier zones. I think it needs to scale, with Greater having the drop rate it has now, with Intermediate, Lesser and Minor scaling with more common drops the weaker the crystal.

What is the drop rate anyway? I certainly gained more minor and lesser shards at lower level than I am even seeing now at 17!

The mythal drops are done on a separate 5% change roll for each kill.
