Apparently around the forums some people need more stick than carrot. Internet cowards and forum trolls are nothing new.

The easiest solution to people talking crap behind fake accounts with proxies and IP spoofing is something I've seen a few other servers do - tie their forum accounts to NWN CD keys.

Doing this would make a coward who wants to be a keyboard warrior have to drop some coin to get a new CD Key at the very least.

I'm fairly certain there are NWN keygens floating around out there, which would mean it only adds a few extra minutes of work to anyone wanting to do it.

I agree, though, it's silly.

Alt accounts are the Bane of my existence on nwn. >:( IG and on the forums. I really think that ig logins should match the forum login too, so we can all be held more accountable too.

Metagaming usually motivates me to make them. Or people who will grief a concept I have.

Some people make alts to avoid other people. I've known people that do it, and it's a very valid reason. Or maybe you want to use one account to keep certain character types in there, or something.

It makes a lot of sense and really isn't a big deal. Alt forum accounts (unless they correspond with alt IGs) are another matter.

I made my alt so I could go 'under the radar' for awhile - it didn't work in all cases, but it did help me a play a lot with more freedom and relaxation (and still does at times, when I deign to play PC's from it). I don't really see the issue of it and very much doubt people do it with any malicious/devious intent in the vast majority of cases.

I've planned/considered of having an alt account for some specific characters actually and then have separated forum account. To decrease the possibility of metagaming and the rumor mill that was spoken in separated topic. With my current char, there was some OOC concerns raised of dealing with her due to my previous character having been an known evil character. But DM's would be included to know the two are linked, for the purpose of driving IC action and issues with that character in the forums.

Therefore in a sense, I can understand both aspects. Why some people would prefer having such and why it would be better not to have such. What it comes down to is working with the DM team, in my opinion. As mentioned, by letting them know that I am the same person behind both accounts and forum accounts.

EDIT: Funny fact: I used to get very nervous when interacting with DM PC's. After Rigela's IC interaction treatment. I lost my inhibitions and nervousness and I could enjoy my life again! Only 9.99€ today! In other words, thanks Rigela!

I do think tying CD keys into all of them could work, though, as I'm pretty sure DMs can already pinpoint alt accounts by IP address and stuff already??! Frankly I have no idea how this stuff works, but, I think accountability is a great initiative!

I don't see this going anywhere good, to be honest. Seems like implementing a lot of hassle just to stop a couple people from being mean on the internet.

Agree with Larsaan. This is the same bullshit that means you can't take more than 100ml of water on a flight. Persecuting and bothering the mass for the (dubious) impediment of a couple of nutters.

I like being under the radar, so I have several alt accounts. Or maybe, this account is my alt account!?
