There's a question I've been thinking about for a while and I still can't formulate properly.

In PnP, I think dragons racially have two selected forms of total immunities, and I think Bioware just slapped Sneak Immunity and Mind-affecting Immunity for all dragons as racial standard to save themselves the so precious coding time.

But in Amia, in lore, since every dragon naturally has the immunities, do we recognize this as racial trait and we assume that every dragon adopts the same immunities without having a choice because it's part of their racial nature, or we leave a space for alternatives?

Nope, or at least it shouldn't be.

Is it possible to request a slight size increase for your PC, scripting-wise?

It's not, sadly. Resizing does not work on dynamic models.

Is there any canon draconic translator/phrasebooks out there?

The Draconomicon has a page of draconic to common translations.

There's this page, though it's a mess of Drow words mixed up with a lot of homebrew and the actual canon Draconic words.

It's the best you can get, tho'.

There's two sources we typically use for Draconic translations, actually!

The first is the aforementioned chart of Draconic to English translations, along with some other explanations including how possessives work. Most of that's found in Races of the Dragon. Our good friend Letum, however, was kind enough to transcribe most of that info in this thread a while back, so feel free to use it.

The second is the Draconic translator, which Ice linked. As he said, it isn't perfect, as there are some drow words mixed in for some reason. It's also incomplete, sadly. But, it is definitely better than nothing, and includes all of the words in the chart I linked above.

Use the first if you want to be sure you're only using legit stuff. For casual use, use the second one.

What does the Anti light option for the Light spell in the Book of Transmutation do?

I've tried testing it and can't see a difference in the color or brightness of the light coming off anything the spell is used on.

Nothing. It doesnt use the anti light spell (that weird uses) likely because it simply never got implemented or was meant to e something else entirely.

I've been trying to figure out something i haven't had much luck reading on, maybe it requires a special request, i dunno, but the general question is as follows (rather convoluted).

Elves can be Aasimars, Genasi, Fey'ri etc. (also possible as a PC on amia). Now what about Drow, what variants/subraces/mixes, rare or otherwise, can they be? I've read about Draegloths, half-drow-half-Wyrmshadows, and of course the regular Half-drow is the one available on Amia.

Can it be requested (or just made?) to play a drow that is a Genasi, Tiefling or something like that? Fey'ri perhaps?

Mechanically it's not really possible to take certain combinations because of the system we use.
BUT...
I don't see why certain combinations couldn't be requested like any other special character - you would have to request any other mechanical trait separately.

I don't want any special requests for mechanics, i don't think i have the DC's for that (I'd go for a Shadowcaster though). Maybe some minor requests later on, like a custom spell. I'm new to this request thingy-.- and i have a character concept with an insane RP build i want to try with a drow, and i'm wondering what options are supported bloodline-wise. Also it says on the sidebar article, that Tiefling/Genasi etc are "Universal subraces".

Just asking if it's not against the rules to do something like, take elf, give it drow appearance traits, activate Tiefling/Genasi/w/e race and roll with that? (no, i don't know how this works lore-wise yet >.>)

I think that would be against the rules, yes, because it's race emulation. . . And it needs to be requested formally.

Better to make the request. If you're worried about a DC cost, don't be - requests like this are basically just for the DM team to check the Roleplay is solid and the player understands what they're getting into, and that they understand not to exploit scripts. No cost, you just send it in for approval. Mind you, you would have to pay DCs to get any of the actual perks of the emulated race (such as Underdark navigation) although it's a pretty cheap widget I think.

For some reason I can't see any of the "new" cloak designs on my male halfling. I've noticed it's mainly on my character I can not see it. Has anyone encountered this problem before? How should I troubleshoot it?

This should be an extremely important part of your request.

You would have to request this. You can PM it to any DM if it's something special or secret that you don't want in public knowledge. This likely will not cost anything, but this concept should be explained and requested.

Once upon a time there was a ruling that drow blood doesn't mix with Planetouched subraces, but the lore of it was very ad hoc and iffy. It was mostly because you could conveniently avoid penalties like Light Sensitivity by taking a Planetouched subrace and because the module wouldn't treat you correctly - racial gates, starting locations etc. would all be wrong. So yeah: it might be approved lorewise but causes some technical difficulties which may affect DM opinion.

I don't see how a Planetouched Drow would be any different from Planetouched Anything, lorewise. I mean, drow graduation ceremonies (in Menzoberranzan, at least) involve orgies with demons, so I'd say it's pretty safe to assume a high genetic likelihood for Tieflings. Aasimar and most Genasi are less common, though especially Earth Genasi could probably come about with portals to the Earth elemental plane and all sorts of svirf-summoned creeps lumbering about.

From a mechanical standpoint, I'd assume the char would pick Drow subrace and just have to RP being planetouched on top of that. With DM permission, of course.

Not treated as an outsider for purposes of spells, etc if you do that.

Thanks for your answers guys! This seemed like a lot of hassle, and possibly one step too far... so i made a decision to go with a regular Svirfneblin, that is going to be ultra-wretched. Plan is to become some drow's puny servant ;P

Lofty goal in life...

Check out some of the lore on them though. The actual lore of the race depicts them as much more than servants. They are amaaaazing. Also build wise their is tons you can do with 'em.

True but you can bypass racial gates and such if you go outsider subrace. Plus you avoid the ECL penalty, which is a bigger no-no.

GreatPigeon wrote:

Not all the time. Albino drow are very rare but treated (normally) with respect because they can essentially infiltrate elves. It's like a blessing to the house. A drow with some demon blood in them is a good thing.

Still need a request for that I think, because you can't emulate the racial traits for both (since they are both subraces). There's no lore against either, but you'd have to just clear it with the DM team to be on the safe side.

(S)he said "regular Svirfneblin", nothing to request there.

As for supposed drow racial purity, I would say that varies not only with city and religion (and how one can rationalize it and profit from it), but also social class. The high-minded ideology, labyrinthine social etiquette, concern for good reputation and constant need to scheme which we see in novels and tend to associate with drow culture as a whole is, in my mind, more an upper-class thing. The harsh realities of everyday life no doubt dilute and diversify the Lolthite ideal among the common folk.

There is a certain strangeness about Subrace Planetouched, because technically everything is a "subrace." Moon Elf is no more "regular" Elf than Sun Elf, except by NWN mechanics (and the Planetouched subrace overwrites the base race equally). So I don't know if we could consistently require requests for that (and we never have before). An exception was specifically made for Drow because of their popularity and having rather awkward consequences. There are some other subraces that are also problematic, to be sure. Like, how do you play a Kobold Tiefling?

Is Light Blindness, as in the ones used by most UD races, request-able to be applied to non-UD races? I'm asking less on the lore side and more on the mechanical side here.

Technically any weapon that is one size larger than your character should be MGable.
I haven't seen any halberd or scythe monkey gripper, but still technically speaking, it should be possible.

Here's a little more detailed description: http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=55949&p=918516#p918516 (scroll down slightly, for Bio commands)

To view your own, I select "Examine" in a Quick Slot, from the radial menu, if you right-click on it.
Then Examine your character. That's how you can check your Bio, as you fill it out.

Since the Skeleton familiar doesn't use a shield, wouldn't it make sense that it wields a two handed weapon? (And to compensate its poor BAB progression). Would love it!

Hi everyone. I'm a new player with a few questions and I don't particularly want to start a brand new discussion. I'll get straight to the point: I really like the server but I know absolutely nothing about FR. As such, is there a lore topic I could read up just so I could get up to speed?

Hi everyone. I'm a new player with a few questions and I don't particularly want to start a brand new discussion. I'll get straight to the point: I really like the server but I know absolutely nothing about FR. As such, is there a lore topic I could read up just so I could get up to speed?

Starting from the absolute zero may be all a challenge. The knowledge can be so dispersed that you may as well just look a map, say "oh, we are here" and drop IG like your standard adventurer Joe.
But I'm sure somebody has a more useful advice than me. There's ought to be a "starter" lorebook for FR.

That aside:
I'm still wondering about how dragons are treated in Amia in difference of canon.
What's the explanation for slapping Mind Immunity and Sneak Immunity to them? Do we recognize this?

There's the forum's very own Lore section you can scan. When you find a longer thread discussing the topic of your interest, you should use the Search box in the bottom left corner of the page to sift faster and avoid repetition. It searches only within the thread, so it's more accurate and easier to use than the Search function you can see on the dashboard/help bar in the top right of the forum.

Also, I guess Rules & Lore will also spoonfeed you some very basic information about the realm. I know nothing about FR either, but you get a hang of the basics very easily and the people here are helpful and forgiving. Or at least they don't spank you for not doing your homework.

Since the Skeleton familiar doesn't use a shield, wouldn't it make sense that it wields a two handed weapon? (And to compensate its poor BAB progression). Would love it!

It has powerful immunities and to my knowledge there is no familiar with a warrior BAB progression so I doubt the skeletons progression is poor compared to other available familiars. Seeing a lot of people prefer to use it in the lower level range I feel it's quite powerful enough without the damage upgrade a two handed weapon would provide.

The Skeleton familiar is plenty powerful. It gets a shield at higher levels, mind you.
