It appears that spells granted through the base NWN class do NOT respect arcane spell failure (meaning they function regardless), but the widget spells DO.

Is this functioning as intended? If so, I have a less useful character on my hands than I intended...

Even though this should be in the general questions thread, I'm giving this a bump as I'm curious as well.

Since the assassin spells are arcane in nature in p&p, they should be subject to arcane spell failure.

in PnP, assassins cast spells with no ASF in light armor, like a bard.

Bards don't get that here, as we run on 3rd edition rather than 3.5.

The only reason I asked is because the default assassin spells (non-modified NWN standards) can be cast in full plate wearing a tower shield. If the widget spells respect ASF & that's not an oversight, I hold myself answered.

Lock away, & thank you!

Not sure which way it's supposed to be tbh. I'll look into it when I can.

*smiles* I stand corrected. I spent very little time in 3rd before we switched to 3.5. Unfortunately that means I forget some of the changes between editions.

I apologize for the misinformation and I will be careful to double check my sources before I speak up next time.

The good book says they gain spells just like a bard does, so if bards don't get a pass on the ASF in 3.0, assassins shouldn't either.

It's inconsistent; hence the question.

Regardless, I believe I have answered it myself. The base-class NWN Assassin spells are FEATS, not spells. If the additional Amia content was coded as spells, they would respect ASF. Since this is exactly how it's currently operating, I can only assume this is the reason for the inconsistency.

The question is if their darkness widget has ASF, Darkness as a spell in NWN only has a verbal component as such can be cast in armor.

Sorry for the delay.

It is correct that the assassin "spells" in widget form respect and are affected by Arcane Spell Failure, as assassins do cast Arcane spells.

The reason that the base NWN "spells" for assassins bypass ASF is because Bioware in their infinite wisdom decided to put them in as feats rather than an actual spell book for assassins, and feats are unaffected by ASF.

I will add a notation in the Classes and Feats Modifications sidebar about the "Amia specific" assassin spells taking ASF into consideration.
