This 'tome' looks more akin to research notes than any official documentation. "Positoxins" is inscribed into the hardened leather cover of the compendium. The pages smell faintly of a pungent odour some may associate with that of an alchemists lab. The notes themselves are carefully inscribed on vellum pages, written in a neat, flowing script, betraying the 'note-book' appearance of the item. Pages towards the end of the book are left blank, likely more information will be added as time and research allows.

This tome is found within the alchemy lab in the Temple of Velsharoon and the second copy can be found in the Tarkuul library.

Positoxins
By Necromaster Laura Jarshall

An overview:

Positoxins are a special alchemical substance distilled using holy water and are laced with positive energy. To a corporeal undead, such as a skeleton or zombie, a positoxin will act much like a poison would on a living being. Often dealing both initial and after effects, such as draining either the physical or mental capability of the affected undead who fail to resist against the positoxin.

Despite the immunity to damaging or draining of their abilities, undead that rely on their strength or agility for survival are highly succeptable to the effects of some positoxins, as they break down the physical form of the undead, while simultaneously interferring with the negative energies sustaining the animation. The effects applied by a positoxin are permanent, making the substances feared by the undead, and an invaluabe asset in the fight against them.

An undead who is capable of handling positoxins poses a slight risk to themselves when applying or preparing the positoxin for use. As such, anyone gifted with the skill of crafting and applying poisons poses no such risk. Living creatures, however, are unaffected by positoxins, making them ideal candidates to study and process the substances.

When an undead comes into contact with a positoxin, be it handling or injuring, an immediate effect is applied, each effect varying with each different positoxin detailed below. Due to the concentrated nature of a positoxin, and due to the distillation process, few but the most resiliant undead are capable of resisting the initial effects contracted from coming into contact with the positoxin.

Due to the rarity of the core ingredients and the difficulty of distillation, positoxins are hard to come by and expensive to buy outright. However those with the ability to channel positive energy to turn or rebuke undead and have an advanced understanding of alchemical distillation are able to create positoxins.

List of known positoxins:

Bloodwine: A thick, crimson positoxin that uses garlic in the distillation process, thus making it harmful to vampires and undead with similar vulnerabilities to garlic. One of the more interesting methods is that this positoxin can be consumed by a living creature, so that a vampire will ingest the positoxin through their bite. However, the positoxin is diluted in the bloodstream and weakens the effect considerably.

Boneshard Paste: As the name implies, this positoxin is created with shards of bone, giving it a pale colour. It is capable of draining the afflicted undeads strength.

Celestial Essence: This positoxin is golden in hue and appears to shine with an inner radiance, likely the cause for its namesake. Upon contact, the afflicted undead suffers loss to its willpower, accumulative effects can throw the creature into complete rampancy as it is irreversible.

Gravedust: Looking more akin to watery mud, this positoxin is made up of the same mud and slime found in long-abandoned tombs or catacombs. Upon contraction, this positoxin drains the undeads agility.

Liches bane: A bone-white substance mostly dangerous to spellcasting undead or those dependant on mental-based powers, such as Liches or Alhoons. Upon contact the positoxin inflicts initial mental damage upon the target, if untreated, can lead to permanent inflictions.

Liquid Mortality: The most potent of all positoxins and the hardest to create and hardest to resist, this is the only known positoxin capable of actually destroying undead by draining the targets strength. The disruption of the negative energies is potent enough that it will reduce their strength to the point the energies cannot sustain the form and consequently destroy it.

Sunlight Oil: A thin, slippery liquid, not unlike oil. This substance can only remain without sunlight for up to twenty-four hours before becoming useless. When used, it drains the strength of the target, but its potency is not enough that it can destroy the undead.

Tomb Moss: Information redacted until further study.

The pages following remain blank for the time being.
