In the medical library of the Salandran Temple in the basement, a bound case file is placed on the shelf embossed with the title Case Study: Kurchin.

Foreword: The patient, Kurchin, still requires more careful observation, therapy, and genuine care to fully diagnose him and discover more options for better treatment and understanding more of what his condition is, and what may occur, or trigger it, under different conditions. Please use this information to help my friend live as long and as happily as is possible, and with the most comfort.

I. Case History
    1. Background Information
The patient, Kurchin, is male and in moderately good health for a kobold. He is assumed to be any from seven (7) to eleven (11) years of age in this year, 1374 in the month of Nighal on the Winter Solstice. He is reproductively mature and assumed to be capable of procreation, though, as of current knowledge, he has not engaged in copulation despite having, at one time, a female kobold companion. It is additionally assumed that he has no offspring. He does not appear to have any sort of sexual drive or interest, despite his typical behavior of being rather interested in bodily contact and cuddling; such gestures appear to be indicative of a human toddler-like persona before any gender identity has been cultivated; however the subject is aware of his gender. Additionally, the subject lacks any understanding, or capability to understand, the actions involved in the conception, creation, carrying, and delivery of a child in neither mammalian, reptilian, or avian explanations. Considering his apparent mental age, and also likely lending to the positive experiences and care he has received after his trauma, his "default" childlike persona is good natured, loyal to his caregivers and friends, and eager to help even in the face of readily apparent danger.

Amendment: Recent observation has indicated the patient may be sexually active, but knowledge of the mechanics of the action, and sex drive remain at the same level--bare minimum. It is assumed he is able to be cajoled into sexual action by a partner, and will act as the submissive partner in all associated acts.

Any specific draconic heritage is unknown, however the patient is not currently exploring his ancestry. Known injuries inflicted are due to combat--some healed scarring as from sharp instruments and burns (both from fire and acid) should be expected in slight amounts during examination. Patient has been trained in the bardic arts, as well as being well-conditioned for intense combat by an unknown party, though exposure to violence and combat should be avoided entirely; nearly at all costs.

Early into Kurchin's life, when he was initially outwardly and intrinsically feral, he was captured and subjected to intense mental torture via magical, and potentially mundane means in order to transform him into a desirable "pet" for a young magician. One method that was certainly used was the Mindrape spell, in order to fragment and distort his psyche, so it could be molded against typical kobold nature; the product being the artistically talented, soft-hearted, child-like persona that he assumes most often. It is currently unknown how he arrived on Amia, or the location this torture occurred, but the "family" that committed the act is assumed to be dead at this time. Kurchin has suffered several psychotic breaks in the past, and has an amplifying condition in the form of an evil outerplanar parasite while feeds on negative energy and emotions. Additional trauma and experiences since the original onset of the fragmented psyche condition, such as the decimation of the Demiplane of Knowledge by the Singing Vodak and other persons, may be a contributing factor to the decline/growing intensity of his condition.

Previous treatment summed up to long observation in an anti-magic cell (which was not successful) and exploratory hypnosis to help treat and diagnose subconscious issues. Exploratory surgery has also been done on the parasite, though the result shows the parasite to be dangerously fused to host tissue and inoperable.

II. The Condition
    1. Default Persona
The patient's "default" persona for the sake of clarity in this study will be described as the domestic, gentle, kind and child-like persona which has been fabricated through aforementioned torture. In terms of considering the patient's apparent happiness and longevity, it is my belief that for now, this persona should be preserved. It should be noted, however, that this persona is fragile and when confronted with stress, violence, hostility, bloodshed, hatred (including "bigotry"), weaponry and killings of any sort. When the patient is stressed or close to having issues, he signifies his distress through whining like a puppy would, often repeatedly, whenever exposed to any cues of the offending material; through discussing it, viewing it, hearing it, or considering it. Notably, despite his whining being a clue to his distress, the patient will insist on remaining in the presence of the negative stimulus, and his ability to handle such should be severely questioned.

    2. The Feral Persona
The patient's assumed original, feral (and traditional) kobold persona is, as best can be explained, constantly lurking below the surface of the fabricated default personality. When a fracture occurs in the defauly personality, the primitive personality takes over. It is similar to the "fight or flight" response in most other races, though this response is inhibited to exclude most rationale, due to being fragmented and suppressed, in and of itself. The default persona is wicked, demented, yet articulate in its demands when it chooses to speak. It is a restrained persona when in captivity, and does not register any ability of being able to speak Common. It will only respond to and speak draconic, while the default persona will engage in both languages.

This persona will engage in both combat and attempts to escape combat equally, though it is not certain the motivations, as self-preservation (as would be expected of primal instincts) does not always seem to be a factor. The patient in the feral persona has been witnessed fleeing a battlefield to escape, and then returning to engage in combat. It should be noted in this specific example, neither the default or feral persona had any attachment to the persons fighting, or the location. The motivation of the feral persona remains unknown.

The feral persona is entirely aware of the default persona and is more aware of the actions that took place to construct the fabricated default persona than the default persona is. The feral persona underlies the fabrication, and has unabridged access to the patient's memories, knowledge, and experiences; however, as previously mentioned, it is not the same in the reverse.

    3. Disarming the Feral Persona
