[Deep within a book on a high shelf in the Lore Master's Library is a page containing basic information of the city Serenia. This page was published approximately two years before the city was razed. If an adventurer finds this page, becomes intrigued and travels to said location, and if they were not cut down by the vile creatures that patrol the area, they would find a dead garden of rubble and several large black tents.]

Brief History:
Serenia was founded by Palisus Velbon. Due to lack of documentation, it is unclear when the city was established and little is known about Palisus Velbon himself other than he was wandering the forests and highways of southern Faerun before his claim.

As the story is told, Palisus Velbon discovered a group of various races whom claimed to be cast out of an unknown city by the majority populous. Palisus was outraged and Velbon took the burden of leading the group in his travels and instructed survival techniques before traveling on his own again.

However, one typical day passing through a large and green field, Velbon was approached by a red fox whom he named later named Velpasius. Velpasius had telepathic abilities and only spoke to Palisus. Velpasius warned Palisus of an imminent flood in the area and wanted to take them to a "safe spot". The group objected, stating the suspicion of the mischievous animal. Palisus decided to trust the fox. Velpasius then lead the group to a large weirwood tree near a cliff-side coast. Just as the group reached the tree, an onrush of water nearly took their lives as it violently flowed over the cliff. The weirwood tree withstood the water and after the water had subsided, Velbon and Velpasius were revered as saviors. Velbon then decided this location was perfectly suitable for a settlement.

With no other ports for hundreds of miles of coastline, the village built a port and began to assist and trade with ships and travelers. The village's tolerance and acceptance of outsiders eventually earned its name as Serenia, "Place of Peace".

Places of Interest

Velbon Byway - Serenia's isolated location along the coastal cliff-side attracts many ships sailing the Great Sea. The first arrival of merchant ships enticed Serenians to dig a pathway into the cliff itself leading to the shore below where a pier was constructed. As Serenia grew and trade traffic increased over the years, the descending trail increased in width to compensate for the dense foot traffic to and from the harbor and the city itself. This road came to be known as the Velbon Byway and the backbone of Serenia's economy.

The Garden District - The Garden District is simply a large grove of small animal life, paved walkways and well kept plantation. This district is a common area for weddings, festivals and worship. Civilian druids have taken over its care, establishing several shrines, small homes in the small wooded area and even regulations approved through the local government.

The most popular site of the Garden District is the famous weirwood tree; a character in the tale of Serenia's founding and the sole reason why Serenia exists. It continues to flourish, and its everlasting growth is carefully overseen. It is located in the center of the park, surrounded by well kept grass field and four paved walkways leading to its base in a symmetrical circle.

The University District - Serenia's University District is a collaboration of dense, odd-shaped buildings. Here, the structures are all interconnected with corridors above ground. Many schools of magic are intensely studied by ambitious wizards and sorcerers whom eventually graduate to travel the world or legally serve in the military.

The Wall - The wall that surrounds the city in a semi-circle from cliff-side to cliff-side is the first noticeable sight from afar, despite some of the structures that tower behind it. Although the city has never before been attacked by an organized offensive, this wall was erected to withstand one. The wall was constructed by thick white stone, boasted a 16' width and commanded intimidation with its 45' height and ballista emplacements. The wall also contained several utility doors and one main gain in the center.
