Messages are scattered throughout the island in most populated regions-- such as Cordor, Kohlingen, the Salandran Temple, Tarkuul, Wharftown, Uhm, and the Dale. Each of the advertisements briefly inform the viewer of prudent information, before redirecting interested parties to a more vibrant and thorough message placed in Kampo's Storehouse.Updated Map (Turn 2, Spring):
Richard Halifax Johnson - Bendir Dale Phyr'tana Ta'far - Uhm Aiseth Nosdivan - Kohlingen Almare Xy'glythar Selorn -Wharftown Avadon of Wiltun - Cordor Vito Corvus - Winya Beldor Ma'fer- Benwick Hollow Master of Games Sir Edgar Basile, Knight of the Red Fellowship ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Sir Edgar Basile Professor at Arms of the Red War College Knight of the Red Fellowship Presents and Hosts I humbly invite the island's game-enthusiasts, tacticians, and scholars of war to take part in a true contest of wits, diplomacy, and conquest. The Games will take place over one completed series of the game-event Conquest: Amia, lasting likely numerous days as cunning Amians square off in heated political-military campaigns. Do you have what it takes to forge alliances, to calculate and devise master strategies? Or perhaps, to betray your companions in a gambit for the prize? Who can you trust-- and to how far? To what lengths will you go yourself, to secure your total victory? The entry fee for a contestant is 1,000,000 gold coins. Though steep for perhaps one individuals, contestants are invited and encouraged to pool resources and enter as a team (Though one representative will have to be chosen among them). The costs must be real, to emulate the true nature of loss-- But so too, will the prize of victory: The winning contestant(s) will receive the ENTIRETY of the pooled entry fees as a token of their accomplishments! UP TO 7,000,000 GOLD PIECES With two 'seasons' or turns of play taking place at every session, the games will be held at Kampo's storehouse-- with drinks and food, merriment, and intense diplomatic discourse in the hopes of Total Conquest. Those not competing are readily invited to attend and observe the games, witnessing Amian's finest tacticians in heated competition! For all questions, concerns, or ideas, please seek me out in person. Attached notices will be collected by myself, and communication initiated. I am accepting donations to add to the winning pool, for those who wish to further reward our resident masters of strategy. ~ ~ ~ ~ The Rules[ Please note, that while the rules may appear complicated or overwhelming, they are extremely intuitive, and will become far more easily understood in person. Instead of defeating yourself over the rules, use them as a guideline to understand just how the War Games will be played. There will be further instruction upon Contestant arrivals. While it can sound more complicated in written text, it is assuredly far simpler and intuitive when actually performed. Hold faith!] Each contestant, to a maximum of seven, will represent a major power on the Island of Amia: Kohlingen, Benwick Hollow, Bendir Dale, Uhm, Wharftown, Cordor, and Winya Ravana. They will randomly draw their powers, beginning with the first to complete and pay their entry fees. This is the only element of chance in the game. As with any War Game, the rules must be well understood. Conquest: Amia is a game of war and the politics thereof. Combat and movement are simple-- so that the true prowess of the tacticians shines in the diplomacy in between moves. It is a game where contestants must cooperate to survive-- but only one can remain standing in the end. THE OBJECTIVETo win the game, a contestant must take and hold 16 of the 31 Supply Centers, thus recognized as in control of Amia, and will receive their winnings ( Up to 7,000,000 gold coins!) THE REGIONS AND UNITSThere are three types of regions: Landlocked, Coastal, and Sea. And there are only two types of units: Infantry, and Naval. Each unit will be represented by the following: A Colored square for Infantry, and a Colored Diamond for naval units. The colors will correspond to the colors of the regional power and contestant. Naval units can interact with Coastal regions, and move only through Sea regions. There can only ever be one unit in any region, no exceptions! One Supply Center can produce only one unit. Only coastal Supply Centers can produce naval units. TURNS: Seasons and PhasesThere are two phases of every season. One season is one turn (And typically two will be held in one day, for the event). The Seasons are Spring, and Winter. The only significant difference between the two seasons, is that at the conclusion of Winter, forces will either be disbanded or reinforced, based on a number of supply centers held. Every season has two phases: The Negotiation Phase, and the Movement Phase. The Negotiation phase is when players conduct either private or public meetings, discussing potential alliances, maneuvers, betrayals, and more. After negotiations have taken place, each contestant will privately submit a written movement order for their troops to the Master of Games. While promises may be made in the Negotiation Phase, there are no true rules forcing a player to obey his own word. Only the contestant can determine just how much he trusts his opponents to follow their word. At this point, the Master of Games will conduct the Movement Phase, announcing the outcomes and updating the Game Map on the various conflicts that have occurred. All movement is performed simultaneously-- placing even more importance on the Negotiation phase for planning and decision making. UNIT MOVEMENT and ACTIONSEach unit can move to an adjacent region. And only one unit can inhabit a region at any given time. If two units each try to move to an area, the unit with the larger 'number' (Ie: The more units supporting it) will move into that location. A unit can choose to attack another region (And occupy it, if won), to move, to support another unit, or to do nothing. Supporting Another Unit: This is one of the more difficult concepts, but is incredibly important to understand, if you are to be successful in the War Games. An infantry or Naval unit can choose to bolster the fighting power of an adjacent unit by electing to support its order-- Whether it is defending or attacking. Example: The contestant declares the unit of region 1 to support region 2's defense. If region 2 becomes attacked, it now has a Military Power of 2, rather than 1. If region 1 becomes attacked in the same turn however, it no longer reinforces region 2, and stands alone (Unless it is separately supported by other regions). This is how another contestant disrupts a support chain. You can also support another contestant's orders, not only your own troops. And notably, a support order cannot be denied, even if you wish. This makes for interesting surprise maneuvers throughout the Games. Naval units can only support Infantry units that are attacking or defending Coastal regions. Attacking Another Region/Unit: To declare an attack, issue a movement order stating such. If the total power, including supporting units, is greater than the power of the defense, the region is captured. Defending units who lost are considered 'Displaced'. They either retreat into an open, adjacent region of the defending contestant's choice-- or if all adjacent regions are full, the unit is disbanded (Destroyed). All attacks happen simultaneously. The Master of Games will fairly serve as an arbiter to each orders, and consider the various mathematics of supporting orders, chains being broken, and more. Do not fret! However, the more you understand, the greater your strategy will be. Convoys: Naval units can create 'convoys', or support chains that are dedicated to the shipment of Infantry units. So long as a convoy is connected, when a unit is made (Which will be touched on later), it can be shipped throughout the entire chain of naval units in a single turn. Similarly to support chains, Convoy chains can be broken by attacking one of the Naval units in the convoy. Reinforcements and Disbanding TroopsAt the end of the Winter movement phase, each contestant will count the number of supply centers they control. They can have as many units, whether naval or infantry, as Supply Centers they control. If a player has 6 supply centers at the end of Winter's movement phase, having captured two, he now has the ability to create two more units. When you create these units, you can only do so at your Home Supply Centers-- or the supply centers you started off with. You cannot create more units, even if you have the supply centers to do so, if all of your Home supply centers are occupied, even if by foreign invaders. This is why Convoys are important-- because you may need to ship troops from your home base to where the conflict is! ~ ~ ~ ~ End Note: The games will be played on a daily to near-daily basis. Each meeting, a Spring and Winter Season will take place, leaving the contestants ample time to plan and strategize with their own team members or with allied powers. Let us see who the real Master Strategists of Amia truly are! Sign at the bottom of this notice, and register yourself or your team as a Contestant. This is on a first come, first served basis.

A note is left upon the noticeboards of Cordor, Kohlingen, and Tarkuul.
I, Vito Corvus, offer myself as an adviser to a candidate. I bring counsel and strategy, and am familiar with very similar War Games which have been played in the past. I do not have a preference for the city-state being represented, and offer this service on a first-come, first-served basis. I pledge to present summarised movement strategy at every stage of the game, with the weight of opportunity cost fully accounted for as the game is approached from a high standard of marginal benefit theories.

The Fellowship Knight leaves the notice above the boards, and even manages a few copies atop other boards. He does, however, place a note below the original..
Dear Mr. Corvus,
I will help advertise your willingness to assist in a team.
However, I feel I should clarify that this is not a contest of established city-states pitted against one another. Any person can join, and will draw which city-state they represent at the time of the games (Obviously, groups of people that enter together will stay together representing one faction). This is more a contest of the individual or his team, rather than one of current political dilemmas.
Sincerely, Sir Edgar Basile, Knight of the Red Fellowship

*The name is received, and tacked beneath a row of 'Contestant' slots. The First Contestant has named himself. The Professor of War eagerly awaits the arrival of other names. He also stuck a brief letter beneath Richard's own note.*
Sir Johnson,
Your name has been received, and your initial spot secured as Contestant Number 1. You may further secure your slot by paying before the initial meeting.
I congratulate you on your initiative, and look forward to viewing your prowess. Good luck, and may the Lady of Strategy find favor in your cunning.

*Elloanore would look at the notes and get quite enthousiastic and then look in her pouch, pouting afterwards she scribbles a response*
I could buy my own army if I had so much coin. I am willing to support a team with rousing music and tales of approriate legends which surely may be of use.

Ah, I wish I had a million coins in my old sock now. This would be -the- chance for the Dale to conquer Amia.

Phyr'tana Ta'far and Aiseth Nosdivan are both entered as Contestant 2 and Contestant 3 respectively. May your wits be sharp, and your strategy sharper.
The date of the competition will be announced following either a greater number of Contestants, or a long enough pause in the signing procedure. Contestants are encouraged to accept fledgling scholars or novice tacticians to assist as teammates. Or, if you are so bold-- enter only as yourself, and be the might that conquers!
I wish you both great wisdom in the coming contest,

Spotting the notice in Kohlingen, a certain mustached wizard can only laugh and shake his head with a faintly amused expression on his face. He did not linger long, on his way to some meeting or another.

Avadon of Wiltun,
Your name is secured as the Fifth Contestant.
There are only two spots remaining in Amia's High-Risk War Games, the military-political simulation involving Grand Strategy and cutthroat allegiances. Do you have what it takes to be a master of tactics and strategy? To hone your skills in an arena of treaty crafting and troop mobilization?
I wish you good luck in your contest, Lord Avadon of Wiltun.

Contestants,
Given the difficulty of arranging a proper gathering when each individual is present, I propose the following:
- Events will continue to be held as I unveil the movement orders. - The Events, however, will not be mandatory. Instead, there will be a regular deadline for movement orders to be given or sent to myself-- physically, or through correspondence. All time in between these deadlines is considered open Negotiation phases, when contestants meet with each other at their own prerogative. Message by mail, or arranged meetings in person are recommended. - I will secure seven boxes by which you can send and receive letters to other contestants, each possessing their own individual box in my possession. Contestants will, however, be able to use their own private correspondence. This is simply a standard method for those who may be more difficult to reach, or for whatever reason wishes to not release private mail information. - In an effort to expedite the Games, instead of rolling a die for the regions, contestants will post beneath the Kampo's Storehouse advert which of the following random 'pieces' they will select. In accordance to a code, they will be then assigned the corresponding region.
The Drawing Contestants will select one of the following words. Only one per contestant, and no two contestants may choose the same. First come, first served. There are no connections from the creatures to the regions. Whether your are first to answer, or last-- it is still decisively random. The Hawk - Richard Johnson The Salamander - Beldor Ma'fer The Mouse - Aiseth Nosdivan The Wolf - Lord Avadon The Hen - Almare Xy'glythar Selorn The Lion - Phyr'tana Ta'far The House Cat - Theadric Shortwick Cordially, Sir Edgar Basile

Contestants,
All of the regions have been drawn. The Hen was awarded to Mister Xy'glythar by default, as he was the last member to choose.
Now that the results are in-- each of the Contestants and their respective Regions are announced as such:
The Hawk, to Richard Halifax Johnson, will command Bendir Dale. The Salamander, to Beldor Ma'fer, will command Benwick Hollow. The Mouse, to Aiseth Nosdivan, will command Kohlingen. The Wolf, to Lord Avadon, will command Cordor. The Hen, to Almare Xy'glythar Selorn, will command Wharftown. The Lion, to Phyr'tana Ta'far, will command Uhm. The House Cat, to Theadric Shortwick, will command Winya Ravana.
The Deadline for the first Movement order will be in the next message, along with the updated game map.

~~~~~~The Game Map, Turn 1, Spring (Large)~~~~~~The Game Map Contestants,
Issue your first movement order within two days time (//Wednesday, 2000 EST). For reference, remember that the colored squares are infantry units, and the colored diamonds are naval units. When the movement order has been issued, the map will be changed appropriately.
If you are still unclear with the rules, submit the movement order to me regardless-- as well as your intent, and I will work to clarify and instruct on the proper method to do so. I will not, however, give strategical advice to any contender.
May the games begin.
Lord Avadon,
One unit comes to equal one unit. The weight of your supply centers will come into play by your ability to spread, or your ability to create support chains to 'reinforce' attacking, moving, or defending unit orders.
A note is left for the participants of the Amian War Games, and as mentioned, this book is now being kept upstairs in The Nomad Returns on one of the bookshelves by the table.Contestants,
My offer still stands. That is, to offer strategic advice and counsel as needed, and represent one of you as an adviser. War Games such as these are often based around certain numerical processes, processes which can be more easily adapted and predicted than events which take place in the real world.
I have left a copy of 'Strategic Intent' by the table, upstairs in The Nomad Returns, which will be available for each of you to consider. Good luck in your first turn.
CONQUEST! The first moves of the Amian War Games have taken place. The Games are now at Turn 1, of the Winter Season. The next movement order will be due by (Saturday 2000 EST). This is now the updated map: TURN 1, Spring The Movement Map: *Another map is pinned here, detailing the movements of the individual units.* - No support orders were issued. - No open war declared between Contestants. - No open alliances declared between Contestants - Numerous Supply Centers seized, in preparation for the vital Reinforcement phase to come. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Announcements Contestant forfeits, New Contestant arrives! - Sentinel Theadric Shortwick regretfully could not continue the games, due to personal conflicts absorbing too much of his available time. However, in his stead, Mister Vito Corvus, rising star in the field of strategy and tactics, will take his place at the helm of Winya Ravana! This was the reason for the delay of updates, as a change in command was taking place. Future updates to the map will be far faster. The Prize for winning the Amian War Games remains at 7 million gold crowns. Contestant HighlightsKohlingen- Moving South and East, the Shield of the North descends toward nearby supply centers. - While none were yet taken, it stands poised to provide strict resistance against the upcoming contenders. Benwick Hollow- Its southerly units captured and seized a supply Center to the East, taking hold of Actand! - Meanwhile, its navy positions itself in the inlet. - The remainder of its forces, however, hold fast in defensive positions. Winya Ravana- Moving quickly and decisively to the North, Winya Ravana has seized the Quagmire Supply Center! - Reinforcements arrive from its eastern city, poised to support its northern-most elements. Uhm- Similar to Winya Ravana, Uhm strikes North! Its units, while not capturing a Supply Center, now stand between Winya's stronghold in the Quagmire and the Chute! - Its southern-most unit moves in tangent with the North, both securing its vulnerable Home Supply Center, while positioning to support its attacking company. Wharftown- Moving East with speed, Wharftown seizes Wyrmhold! - Its Wharftown unit departs the home supply center, seizing vital ground in the center of Amia. Bendir- In a bold manuever, Bendir thrusts southward with the entirety of its troops. They have captured the Bloodmoon Pass supply center! - Its second infantry company seizes the ever-important Amian frontier, an expanse of land massive in size. Whether it attacks, supports, or moves onward is yet to be seen. Cordor- The Jewel of the South expands to the West, looking to quickly seize territory in the Lowlands and Cape Slakh. While no supply centers were captured, numerous are available for the taking.
Good luck contestants!
I'd have taken Theadrics spot but I have a real town to look after and Jillian wasn't thrilled about me entering the game. I'll follow your exploits with great interest though and am always avaideble to discuss this fantastic game (Except at mealtimes)!
-General Nof
p.s. Solid defensive strategy is the key. Let them overreach and bop them on the nose!
WAR! The first year of the Amian War Games is over. The next phase of the games is the Winter Reinforcement Phase. Reinforcement Orders will be due immediately, and will be given one day's lenience. As most reinforcement orders have already been given, I will begin updating the map. If there is a change to your previous reinforcement orders, tell me quickly! This is now the updated, clean map: TURN 1, Winter-- The War Map ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Announcements First Blood!- In the North-West, the Amian War Games find the first taste of conflict. Uhm's attack order on The Chute failed against Kohlingen's Naval-supported movement into occupying the region, giving Kohlingen its ever-important 4th Supply Center. Contestant Highlights Kohlingen- Supported by nearby Naval forces, Kohlingen's Infantry at A5 launched a successful invasion onto the Chute's supply center, seizing it against rising Uhm contenders. - Its secondary infantry unit holds fast, further securing vital ground that both defends against and threatens the southern Benwick Hollow armies. Benwick Hollow- The Naval Unit S7 was set to Convoy Orders, which then escorted A12's home infantry unit to take and hold the island stronghold of A13. - Benwick's southerly forces continue to move unabated, positioned once again for capture of more vital land. - The Holy Temple of Kelemvor holds fast, its infantry spearheading the defense against potential Northern and Western aggression. Winya Ravana- In a daring gesture, the forces of Winya Ravana move deeper into the heart of the North! While Kohlingen's forces leap to the side in assaulting A6, Winyan infantry cuts off potential support, seizing important grounds. - Meanwhile, secondary forces move upwards to reinforce the Quagmire supply center, further saturating the Northern conflict. Uhm- Outnumbered by Northern aggressors, Uhm's efforts to secure A6 were met with solemn failure. This forces their entire movement chain into backup, keeping the Port-Power at bay for the time being. Still, however-- their forces continue to saturate Northern territory. Wharftown- Wyrmhold maintains its defensive position. - Infantry Unit from D2 seizes the supply center North of the Bramble. Bendir- The infantry unit occupying the Amian frontier moves from its valuable position toward the East, where it occupies a port-center. - Secondary forces reinforce the position in D5, effectively maintaining indirect support over all four of Bendir's supply centers. While the small hin village may be in the center-- it is certainly well-defended. Cordor- Cordor's Naval Unit was set to convoy orders, expediting E5's infantry expansion toward Cape Slakh's supply center. - E2 Infantry moves West, seizing the Lowlands Delta - Further support rises to face Northern contenders , occupying the province E2 from previous district E6
Turn 2 Spring Season All movement orders for the second turn, Spring Season must be in no later than (Wednesday 2000). If all movement orders arrive before then, I will update the map as needed to the acceleration of the game's pace. I am available for counseling in regards to movement techniques. If you are knowingly going to be unavailable, and unable to submit a movement order-- please find a replacement strategist. Sign your name beneath his or her documentation, so that the games will proceed at an even pace. If you cannot and do not submit your orders on time, I will take liberties with your troops. For best results, seek temporary replacement instead! -Sir Edgar Basile *Game Map amended to replace an error.
Contestants,
Due to an unexpected absence, the games were postponed without notice. I have returned, however, and will be working directly to continue them, as planned.
Expect an update to the map with the next turn by tonight.
Sir Edgar Basile
//I was busy with my school's graduation week, finals, etc. I'm back now, and will continue the games! Sorry for the inconvenience!
