A dagger is driven through a letter and the top of a small bag containing the head of Crow, into a tree.

the letter reads:

Quote:
Gorthod,

Our contract is now complete. Here is the head you asked for.

Seeing as how your lizard friend attacked me in the forest with the druid, I am now refusing to do any more business with your organization.

A tiefling woman, though hooded often out of doors, on her near-daily trips between Wharftown and Uhm would see this message, sigh and roll her eyes (though without pupils, who can tell?), takes the note-- and noting it seems there is a head in the bag makes a face and would deliver the bag-- very carefully-- to the clerics of the Temple of Selune, saying, "I don't know who this poor wretch is, but.. hopefully his body can be recovered as well-- Still-- leaving it hanging there didn't seem like a good idea."

She'd take the note to leave it somewhere for someone.

Crow learns where his head was taken by one of his informants.
He Travels to Wharftown and enters the Temple of Selune', where he drops a rather large sack of gold in the donation pot.
After speaking with the high priestess, he returns to Amia Forest with another sack.
He travels west from the crossroads, and under a spell of invisibility, he slips past the gnomes towards the Shrine of Mielikki.
In a hidden place, Crow digs a hole, where he places the sack, re-fills the hole, and hides what he has done.
He walks to the Idol where he prays to Mielikki longer than he usually does, and returns to Oakmist to spend time with his daughter and rest.

A note is left on Gorthod's door, shortly after traces of the head and the message are gone.

Gorthod,

You have some serious shit to explain. Find me as soon as possible.

A note is quickly ferried across the street by a white haired woman, who happens to occupy the same residence, and is slipped under Lyle's door.

"Lyle,

The note was a ruse to arouse suspicions about Gorthod, which they seem to have succeeded in doing. Please don't jump to conclusions. We'll talk when I see you next,

Alanna."

Lyle returns a message, under the door.

Alanna,

I'm not going to condemn someone without getting their side of the story, and frankly I'm insulted you'd think I'd do that.

Nailed into the tree where the note with the attached head-in-a-bag was found, was another note, in the same hand as the previous one, and another large bag.

The note:
Quote:
To the people of Wharftown. I, with selfish and despicable actions, attempted to smear the name of Gorthod. Gorthod has never hired me to kill anyone.

The Talon

Set carefully inside the bag are two dozen red roses, and attached to them is another note:

Quote:
Dear Allana,

I hope you like the flowers.

James

A certain smiling half-elven man just grins at the note, shaking his head upon investigation of the bag's contents. He tugs both Alanna's note, and the bag down and packs them carefully away - for delivery? Investigation? Who knows.
