Post subject:  [Several surface establishments] Call to Arms

Several posters may be found in a handful of surface establishments, extending no further north of Cordor than the settlement of Bendir Dale. They are written in a practised script, though it remains somewhat rough, as if years had passed since the writer last put ink to parchment. The careful observer will note that the words are arranged to form the shape of the hilt of a sword. Atop each poster is a wax seal depicting a serpent coiled harmlessly around the neck of an eagle. Every poster is unsigned.

SHALL WE BE TREES?

Or shall we, brothers and sisters, ensure that trees may be?

You are not blind to those forces by whom the very fabric of our world is threatened!
You are not blind to the numerous posters throughout this isle, warning of such
destroyers as the Banites and their kin!

But if you are not blind,
why do you refuse to see?

The island of Amia, and her sister isles,
are continually tainted with the stench of wanton destruction, the
wretched presence of undeath, and the invasion of our world by Outsiders.

No more, I say! For too long have we loving and respecting of the Natural Way
forgone striking at those by whom our passion and our reason for existing
continues to be defiled beyond a reasonable doubt. Therefore,
let us gather, and, in what ways we may, actively
combat those that do not belong, and those
persons, and those groups, through which
they are summoned into this world.

Druids, rangers, and all you who find
yourselves obligated, for whatever reasons,
to preserve and protect the elements of the natural world:
I beseech you, join us! And together, we shall once more
make whole this island, which has been split into parts
by forces that know not what they do, nor why.
Let us drive from this world the undead,
the necromancers, the outsiders,
and their proxies.

Join, today, the collective effort of...
The Grey Crusaders!

Nysor, seeing the poster, and recognizing the hilt, can only ask:

"What is this about?"

A hooded, mustached traveler out on a stroll spies the notice. It is read once, a finger tracing under the words as read. There is but a single pause, and a pensive tap of the finger, once, twice, under one word, once read.

Outsider.

A soft, irritable muttering may be heard from the hooded traveler as he goes about his stroll.

Willow walks by one of these posters and raises an eyebrow.

Huh... I wonder who these guys are? Never even heard of them...

An irritable tiefling, red hair swaying around a succubus-born figure, swears in vulgar Sigil cant and rips across every last one she can find with her claws.

"Let's see ye come fer me, ye great barkin' berks!"

Tristan watches from afar at one occasion, clutching his staff tight. His eyes squint in anger at it, but he does nothing.

At the bottom of each of the posters hangs another of like calligraphy. It again bears the serpent-eagle seal, but this time, the words are not arranged in any particular fashion.

The Grey Law

Here is writ the drafted laws of The Grey Crusaders, which must be followed to ensure our
continued existence, in addition to the well being of that which we seek to protect:

  1. Under no circumstances shall a violent or threatening disposition be taken
by any Crusader within the confines of any forests, groves, plains, or any other wholly
natural area, unless such a disposition is taken in the interest of hunger, or self-defence.
Revenge, being that force through which wars are started, is absolutely prohibited.

  2. The summoning and/or protection of undead beings shall be considered the highest
crime against the natural world. When confronted with those that openly harbour
beings of undeath, any Crusader may respond in self-defence on the behalf of all the world.

  3. The permanent introduction of outsiders to this plane of existence shall be considered
a crime against the natural world. Merely summoning them shall not be considered criminal,
but allowing them to exist long enough to interfere with the natural order of the world shall.

  4. The unjust slaughter of individual creatures shall not concern a Crusader. Death occurs each
moment, for a variety of reasons that might be considered unjust by we of higher wits, but it is
not inherently harmful to the natural world. It is only the destruction of populations and habitats
with which we shall be concerned, and which shall be considered a crime against the natural world.

  5. The punishing of criminals against nature shall always be second to the protection of natural areas.
Though a Crusader should always attempt to strike against such criminals, their continued existence is
less severe than the loss and/or destruction of one of these sacred areas. Let their safety come first.

This is but the initial Grey Law. Revisions will be made in the
future, to reflect the maturation of our combined force.

Joining the Grey Crusaders

At present, we hold no official roster of our members, though there is no doubt that
we number many, if only in our ideology. If your spirit calls you to this most important
cause, sign the name by which you wish to be called on the bottom of this poster, together
with some means by which you may be contacted. Thus, my friends, it begins.

Ignorance, or Disregard?

We of The Grey Crusaders are forced to acknowledge the fact
that, to date, no volunteers have expressed their devotion to our
cause in writing. It may be that we have overestimated the wisdom
of this island, but we will, for the time being, remain optimistic.
Accordingly, we of The Grey Crusaders invite all potential recruits
to a drop-in meeting in the Amia Forest, to take place on
The Thirtieth Eve of This Sixth Month,
where we shall discuss the future of our shared vision and
our company, our relationship with those peaceful parties that
otherwise share our beliefs, and, as a matter of immediate importance,
the Banite threat to the land upon which we shall then stand.

Join us, my brothers and my sisters, for the beginning of
what shall, for years to come, be remembered, at the very least,
as a brave effort to save the influence of Nature on the island of
Amia.

Onto each of these posters is scribbled a short note of the same practised script in which the posters themselves were writ. It reads as follows: "I regret to inform whichever parties may be interested that not a single interested person showed up to our meeting. We have thus far received an endorsement, at least, from a clan of dwarves that may, by their own will, make their name known. This was in writing, however, and until in-person support is seen, no support can be relied upon.

Indeed, the only visitor of note was one whose face I did not see. He set about destroying my campsite, before dazing me and fleeing. I can only assume that he was an antagonist to my cause. Already have we foes, but none among our ranks...

I am disappointed in this land and its peoples.

A most recent commentary under one of these

I have a question for you:

Is it all Outsiders to which you bear ill, or only those of evil bent?

Either reply publically or send a message to me at the Ruathym Monolith.

Each of the posters in each of their locations have been attached to one another at the top, so as to save space; the most recent ones are at the top. There is a new one over each set.

Response to Vaelmith Starshower

So has it been asked:
"Is it all Outsiders to which you bear ill,
Or only those of evil bent?"

In response, The Grey Crusaders make it known that
we hate no Outsider, good or evil, but find their permanent
residency on this plane of existence, by definition, unnatural
and destabilizing. Truly, though, those of "evil bent", more
often than their more-loved counterparts, fight for forces
with which those of nature are forced to clash. In short,
we find the temporary occupancy of this realm by those
foreign to this world acceptable, and, in certain
circumstances, even welcome; but after one has
existed here long enough to pursue to some significant
degree his or her cause, be it explicit or implicit,
that Outsider poses a threat to the Natural Order.
Indeed, the very presence of a foreign entity in this
world, unaided by wilful acts of any sort, may sow
seeds of destruction in the unseen soil of existence.

It should be noted that we do not consider the Planetouched
foreign to this world, for they are, in blood, forever bound to it.

In place of the posters that were previously there, there hangs a full-sized poster... with only a few words scribbled onto its centre.

It is occasionally beneficial, when faced with silence, not to cease speaking, but to speak in a different way.
