To the upstanding peoples of Amia,

It has become increasingly clear that the primary problem Amia faces is the inappropriate use of magical energy by both mages and clerics. While any form of legislation trying to get these groups under direct control is hopeless, the good people of Amia can control the lore that enables the next batch of mages and clerics from reaching such power without first being screened for negative traits. Thus, a panel can be formed to interview perspective mages and prevent undesirables from ever acquiring such great power that has so long been a blight on the isle.

Regards,

Francis Albern

*Vrok walks by the poster in Kampos and it gives him a chuckle*

Right. That'll happen. Heh.

Upon a leather parchment a rudimentary drawing of an island with a skull and cross-bones is pinned to the board below this posting with a standard iron dagger. The word 'Tark'uul' is scribed in legible but very thinly drawn and long letters above the skull. Bits of fraying in where the ink was penned indicates the implement would be sharp, perhaps written with too much force, or unpracticed strokes. Beneath that, the following is written in unpracticed common.

"Is like draining whole pond to catch a fish, better ways of doing it."

An insignia mark is seared into the leather page beneath the writing which resembles a dragon's head wreathed in flame, with long sweeping backwards horns, and connected earfrills.

A carefully-penned, exquisitely-calligraphed letter appears, attached by a woman in grey and dark lavender, her face hooded, a mage's staff in hand.

It is no one's business but the gods to decide who is graced with magic at birth, and I assure you, sir, Corellon Larethian you are not.

I would advise you remove yourself from playing god, lest the actual deities take offense.

Given your less-than-educated idea, I would assume you n'tel'quess, and as such I would warn you against taking any action against the true people.

~Ianthe of Siana~

Below is her mark; the star of Corellon superimposed on the Moon of Sehanine, an open tome beneath.

*An amused glint is obvious in Ulrik's eyes as he reads the notice and the reply to it, pausing as as he headed south through Cordor. Strangely enough, he actually deigns to write a reply, before heading off*

The logistical nightmare you propose is amusing.

That notwithstanding. . .

The censoring of knowledge will only lead to more students pursuing darker, and more questionable, paths of study. I suppose you would deign yourself on this so-called panel that judges who may learn the Art?

Magic is a gift of Mystra, the Lady of Magic. If you wish to see abuse of the Art reduced, it is not in censoring and withholding, nor in lording yourself over prospective students, deciding who may have access to this information and that. No, the Lady of Magic asks only a few things from practitioners of the Art. Humility, rationality, forethought in use of magic.

Encourage these, and you will see abuses reduced, and the practice of magic flourish. Although, that there is concern about the use of magic is encouraging, the method proposed is unworkable, and, contrary to the will of the Lady of Magic, the source of magic of the Realm.

Cerestan takes one read of the letter and scoffs out loud before penning a rather blunt reply.

"Your idea is not only preprosterous, it is narrow minded, idiotic and foolish. If you believe you are all powerful and so mighty that you can control people's use of the Weave then you truly are deserving of a padded cell in the Salandran Mental Ward.

You do not control the weave or the Divine Magics given by Gods to Clerics.

Learn this and you may survive to old age."

Vaelmith looks at the letter, quirking his brow, then looking at the replies, then looknig at Ulrik's reply palming his face. He does decide to add another reply

Francis,

Magic is itself a very rare gift. The Ruathym Monolith encourages responsible use of the art but it's military arm, the Weave Knights are mandated to more seek out and stop the most gross abuses of the Weave. If you have any confirmable information on such abuses, please contact me at once, or leave a letter to the attention of my office at the Ruathym Monolith and they will be looked into.

If I understand the solution you propose, I ask you: What do you consider a negative trait? What would you base such a judgement off of?

Captain, Weave Knights of the Ruathym Monolith

Gevie Aers spends a lot of time reading the notice and the replies with a frown on her face, "Hmmmm...."

"Thank the gods it's not a popular viewpoint, apparently," she said aloud to no one in particular.
