In the pitch-black darkness of Nec'pereya, only dimly lit by the Faezress glowing in the cavern ceeling far above the settlement a portal opened and out poured slaves, Half-orcs, Elves, humans and even the occasional Drow. The sound of moving feet shuffling over the rocky surface of nec'perya and many voices greeted the settlement this evening. They are chained to each-other in groups of five, tightly locked by shackles to their hands. In front of them strode a Male drow easily identified as Ulviir'aufein, of house d'Vilrath. He looked incredibly smug about himself.
The magi snapped a whip and ordered the slaves to line up. There was a total of twenty four (24) grown up slaves and three (3) small boys no older then eight. The males were put in rows in front of the temple all under the stern guidance of some vanguard troopers and the slave-master himself. Ulviir'aufein cleared his throat and murmured the spell Ventriloquism, magically making his voice sound much more louder and more commanding. SLAVES! YOU ARE NOW ALL THE PROPERTY OF NEC'PEREYA. YOU WILL WORK FOR AND OBEY ALL DROW ON THIS ISLE. DO THIS AND YOU WILL RECEIVE WARM CLOTHING, FOOD AND SOMEWHERE TO SLEEP.
WE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU IF YOU DO AS YOU ARE TOLD... The sorcerer paused for effect and allowed the message to sink in before he continued. IF YOU TRY TO RESIST... THE COMBINED MIGHT OF THE VANGUARD WILL KILL YOU. I AM ULVIIR'AUFEIN OF HOUSE D'VILRATH, WELCOME TO THE UNDERDARK.The sorcerer dispelled the Ventriloquism and sent word for the temple clerics, His Ilharess tagnik'zur and The Lord commander. He singled out the three Children and ushered them aside. The sorcerer spoke comforting words to the three boys and tasked one of the standing soldiers of nec'pereya to escort them to D'Vilrath's house. He put emphasis on the fact that they would be treated with great care. He instructed the guards to give them warm clothes and something to eat. They were to be in the best of condition, he said. //DM OVERSEEN RP BY SlkNihilusslkNihilus wrote: 50% human, 10% elves, 30% half-orcs, 10% half-elves. For some reason I got the impression that Nec'perya only wanted surface dweller slaves. If they stated a desire to acquire some drow as well, then the illithids probably would have agreed to replace that 10% elves with 10% drow for the next shipment (ergo 3 drow).

Letters are dispatched to several people in nec'pereya. Quote: To the leaders of Nec'pereya.
The Lord commander, Naltyrr Ilharess Tagnik'zur, of house D'vilrath Ul'ath'tallar Zrae'a'stra'fryn The Scholar I have acquired twenty four (24) high-class slaves for public use in Nec'pereya. Forty six (46) more are on the way and will be delivered within a week. It is now up to you to decide where to make best use of this fresh labour. There are three (3) boys in this gathering that i have purchased for personal sake which i will use in my Faezress research. Two (2) more boys are on the way. I hope i am allowed to keep the children for my experiments.
In total there are seventy-five (75) slaves. Seventy (70) adult slaves mixed between elves, humans, Half-orcs and even drow. Then five (5) human children.
Of the 200+ Inhabitants of Nec'pereya we could mathematically provide one slave for every two Drow residents here on the isle and greatly improve our citizen's way of life. No longer do they need to wash their own clothes, clean their own house and do all the tedious chores that exist in the everyday routine. My suggestion is to hand out one slave to each family of drow here on the isle.
Two shipwrights have also been hired from Underport. They are loaned to us under the condition that if they come to harm, their employeer, one of the boatsmen in Underport, will issue an embargo upon Nec'pereya to the best of his abilities. He was paid 480.000 for their services.
But I will await your response and act as you direct.
Lloth tu malla!
Ulviir'aufein of house d'Vilrath

The tidings that are made public are generally well received. All know what it means for shipwrights to have been obtained, and none mind the extra mouths to feed as they will likely hasten the obtainment of proper food in the weeks to come.
There are some hushed inquiries though as to the nature of the Drow slaves spotted amongst the others. The basic notion does not sit well with the general populace.

A number of book entries have been sent to the Vanguard anonymously. Quote: Cave moss is a fairly unremarkable moss that many Underdark creatures feed on, such as rothé or giant vermin. It grows solely in regions of faerzress. Quote: Bluecap fungus is the main staple of the Underdark. It’s inedible in it’s raw state, but it can be ground into flour and baked into sporebread. Bluecap is cultivated by nearly all of the Underdark races. Quote: Barrelstalk is a valuable fungus if cultivated at a ripe age, though when matured it produces poisonous spores that render it unusable. The Barrelstalk receives its name from its hard, woody, barrel-shaped body. The inside of the stalk consists of an edible pulp surrounded by a store of water. Quote: Choking Cinder fungus is a black fungus that grows on rotting wood in environments that are moist. It is highly flammable and on combustion, emits poisonous fumes that can cause damage if inhaled, but disperse after about a minute.

A missive is sent to Ulviir'aufein.
Ulviir'aufein of House Vilrath
As delightful as it is to have these slaves, do give me warning ahead of time before bringing them here. But since they're here, might as well make use of them.
The first order of business is the two drow slaves are to be freed immediately, take note of their skills and tell them they are to work off their debt by serving within the Vanguard. We can use the extra bodies.
As for the rest, I want a full of accounting of all their skills. The ones who are laborers can be put to work, the useless ones we can put aside as household slaves.

http://imageshack.us/a/img46/8449/0t09.png (Reference 1-13) http://imageshack.us/a/img62/811/prn0.png (Reference continued 13-16) The cycle had passed without anything eventful happening and the small settlement of nec'pereya had slowly been rocked back into old routines when a portal tore the air asunder. It was a Ley-line portal that had opened up at the usual location yet this one did not close as fast as normally, instead it stayed open and allowed one male drow to enter with a rope attached to a Rothe, several in fact. What had looked like the usual traveller porting in now looked like a massive procession - No less then thirty (30) rothe came through the portal. Quote: To the leaders of Nec'pereya.
The Lord commander, Naltyrr Ilharess Tagnik'zur, of house D'vilrath Ul'ath'tallar Zrae'a'stra'fryn The scholar and myself have successfully solved the immediate food crisis by purchasing no less then thirty (30) Full grown rothe to be distributed and/or purchased by the settlement as a whole. One of these massive yaks can, if slaughtered and salted away for storage, supply a group of 50 drow for an extended period of time. We believe that it was time to add additional nutriments in the form of protein and proper meat to the everyday fungus meals our citizens are forced to eat.
I would personally suggest slaughtering half of the herd and set up a massive feast in the glory of Lloth herself!
We humbly await your command as to what actions we are to preform with these animals.
Yours truly Ulviir'aufein //DM Dustspray101 oversaw the roleplay

Quote: "Honoured Lord Commander,
Gains have been made to secure a degree of resources this cycle to compliment the successes of Ul'viir'Aufein's work. I have received information that a merchant who specialises in the sale of wood will make his presence known "at the port run by pirates" some time in the not too distant future.
The window to make good of these resources is small, so I stress a degree of urgency in making contact with this merchant by Vanguard operatives.
Regards,
The Scholar."

Two missives are sent out to Ulviir and the Scholar.
Ulviir'aufein of House Vilrath
Once again, good job. Your initiative at times makes me worry about my own job security. I suspect we will need experienced butchers to make sure the meat is good however. Something to look into, though we'll need to butcher them soon since I doubt we have the food required to feed them.
Concerning the feast, I think it is better that the feast be held at the same time as a melee tournament between our warriors. A bloodbath makes for a better party after all, no?
Naltyrr Lord Commander
And as for the other missive for the Scholar.
Scholar
I am in agreement, do we know if this surfacer port has a name?
Naltyrr Lord Commander
A public Vanguard notice is also issued.
Vanguard
Any proficient in the butchering rothe into edible meat, sign your name below.

Quote: "Honoured Lord Commander,
The information was cryptic at best and a name was not provided: only a riddle for their location and what the merchant was.
The source stated that this merchant would be located at the "port manned by pirates." There are a few candidates for such a description, however my coin is on the surface port within L'Obsul's approximate direction.
If possible, I will try to accompany the Vanguard operative delegated to establishing this connection. This merchant is of... personal interest to one like me.
Regards,
The Scholar."

I can think of the small port between wharftown and Uhm run by Cyricists? Or the small settlement filled with barbarian raiders you can reach from tunnels via L'obsul,
Should we dispatch two operative groups placed at each location during the timeframe? What was this by the way? When would the asset appear?

Per order of the Vanguard, butchers within the city have begun the process of carving up Rothe. They start with the thinner beasts first.

Quote: Esteemed lord commander, And the rest of the leaders of nec'pereya.
I need a rough million and a third (1.300.000) golden coins to make a very special purchase in the near future. I have been given the opportunity to acquire us a set of tame Displacer beasts from Underport. The thrallmaster and i have been in deep negotiations as of late.
500.000 for supplies. 500.000 for the displacer beasts and 300.000 to pay for the remaining forty six (46) slaves as mentioned in previous missives.
May i withdraw that sum from the Donation's chest in the vanguard?

RP overseen by DM slknihilus http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/8966/fuu8.pngIn the darkness of Nec'pereya, nearby the glowing Mythal crystal, there was suddenly a crack in the air and the sound of electricity moving through the air. The air shook and vibrated momentarily before a large rift opened mid-air and stabilized into a portal. The first to step out of this portal was Ulviir'aufein who gestured to the nearby guards to stand down before he turned back and used his innate sorcerous powers to stabilize the portal temporarily. Out behind him came a long trail of bound slaves in good condition. The majority were half-elves and gnomes and the minority consisted of Humans and two half-elven boys, no older then seven or eight. And right after them came ten majestic, yet monstrous, creatures... Quote: To the leaders of Nec'pereya. To the Vanguard
The Lord commander, Naltyrr Ilharess Tagnik'zur, of house D'vilrath Ul'ath'tallar Zrae'a'stra'fryn Vanguard members It is with great pleasure that I, House mage Ulviir'Aufein of the noble house Vilrath, Servants of the spiderqueen and first house of Nec'pereya, announce that an additional batch forty-six (46) surface slaves have been delivered to our glorious settlement alongside two (2) half-elven children for use in my Faezress experiments.
The slaves consist of
Thirteen (13) human adults Seventeen (17) Adult gnomes Sixteen (16) half-elven adults Two (2) half-elven children But the feast does not end here. I have also acquired us ten (1o) highly trained and DOMESTICATED monstrosities to serve as guardians, protectors and muscle for our glorious settlement. These ferocious beasts are hunters! They can tear a man to pieces in matter of minutes and posses the ability to bend light to their advantage.
It is with great pleasure I shall inform you that the settlement have ten (10) Displacer beasts! May the council in their infinite wisdom decide where and how these killer-creatures are to serve our city.
The price for these majestic magical beasts were in the millions, thou you do not need to compensate me for this. It was a sacrifice I was more then willing to do for our glorious settlement.
Information wrote: Physical description
Displacer beasts are large cat-like creatures with six legs and a pair of long tentacles sprouting from their shoulders. They are covered in a pelt of blue-black fur. They are usually about 9 feet long and weigh as much as 500 pounds, but the occasional mutant can be twice this size. Abilities
Displacer beasts use their innate magic to bend light, making them appear to be a foot or two from their actual positions. Origins
This mythical creature originates from the feywild and is said to have an innate connection to elves. They are intelligent creatures, and will respond to worded commands given to them. Yours truly House mage Ulviir'aufein, of house Vilrath

Since there's a distinct lack of responses, the house mage of vilrath publishes another post in the barracks alongside the well-used map the Lord commander previously drafted
 Quote: The letter is adressed to;
The Lord commander, Naltyrr Ilharess Tagnik'zur, of house D'vilrath Ul'ath'tallar Zrae'a'stra'fryn All Vanguard members
Honoured comrades. Do you have any suggestions to our glorious council of leaders where we should place these monstrosities I have purchased for our settlement? My recommendation are;
Two nearby the Crystal node. Two Inside or outside the temple itself. Then place the rest strategically around the island with the Vanguard soldiers watching the waters surrounding us.
Yours truly House mage Ulviir'aufein d'vilrath

The feline creatures take to their new duties with calculated mischief. None seem to be fully visible unless ordered to be so by someone in authority. If no order is given, they appear to make a game of only being able to be observed through peripheral vision, vanishing from sight every time they are aware of the direct gaze of any passer by or nearby stationed vanguard members.

Though some might consider it odd, Nec'perya's leading priestess does little to condemn the actions of the displacer beasts. There are times when she would, in fact, order a beast or two to reveal themselves, likely to continue to assert her authority over them, but more often than not they are left to their duties how they see fit.
In fact, a little smile even plays upon her lips as they play their little tricks. It seems that so long as they are not being a danger to the city Zrae will let them be about their ways.

We have enough mouths to feed as it is, however what the city will require is extra shipments of food and stone. See to finding contacts so that we might acquire these from them, you have my permission to draw from the Vanguard gold funds to pay for them.
If you can also find a "tamer" or expert of sorts to assist in dealing with our displacer beasts in case of emergencies or troubles with them, that will be well.

As most of the structure was already cleared of rubble by the Skum Flesh Golems, work commenced immediately. Reports on structural integrity are ready within the day and work commenced on fabricating furnishings.
The same fellows who had worked on furnishing the interior of the structure that now serves as House Lolarox volunteer their services in much the same fashion. They take a look at the plans posted within the structure and do their best with them, trying to accommodate what they can with the engineers' aid.
