Just an idea.

When I played druid on different servers there used be some sort of a "calming" widget for druids. It was done in such a manner that druids would use widget, there would be roll for Animal Empathy vs Will of Animal (or any other number). If succesful, the animal would get "blue" for everyone. So it would not attack druid and any other PC/NPC around and it would also not attack or be attacked by other "red" animals of its own kind.

Was it changing? Yes. Usually it was just by level of druid. At first it would be single target widget (usually obtained at lvl 1 or 2), later it would on use make rolls for every animal in certain distance from character, kinda like aura, but you still had to click, meaning that animals in stealth could still get to you (usually obtainable at higher levels to show, that druid is now experienced).

I guess not every druid should have this ability, so maybe instead of giving to everyone it could be obtainable via quests from specific druidic NPC, or possibly for DC or via DM. But that's up to you. After all I am not sure if it would fit Amia. 8)

We are already discussing / working on a concept for something similar to this. So stay tuned, we will announce what we came up with once we get to a more solid concept.

I really like this idea... expanding on this, what if a successful animal empathy score within a certain radius first "calmed" the critters that didn't necessarily turn them 'blue' but instead gave them a temporary penalty of, say -50, to their Spot/Listen skill... effectively meaning that even the most clumbsy paladin in plate... who entered 'stealth' could pass them without drawing their attack... however, should anyone be so bold as to walk right up to them, of course the critters would attack you!! (so keeping them 'red' would be my personal preference.) The Radius of effect, and maximum number of creatures is a direct relation to maybe a tiered combination of Druid Level as well as Animal Empathy skill. (Actual Skill Points Only).

Also, keeping the critters 'red' means that other onlookers don't necessarily SEE that the animal is calmed, so it opens up the RP for the Druid to inform folk that they may pass, provided they keep a respectful distance. (because the cirtters WILL attack if they see you, but you got to get up in their face first)

-For druids that wish to DOMINATE the critters and use them like Henchment.. I suggest that FIRST the druid 'calms' the animals (potentially a group) -then once calmed, the Druid can do the 2nd attempt at 'domination' -which, because they are still RED they get the normal penalty for befriending a hostile critter...

Because the druid would need to get up good and close for the critter to "notice" them (i.e. get inside their perception radius, since they have this massive penalty now)... and compounded by the fact the critter is 'red' still... the Druid would need pass the regular standard ROLL, and not be able to 'take-20' like you can sort of jip the system if you can activate your Animal Empathy BEFORE combat starts... meaning you actually HAVE to invest some serious points into Animal Emp. to actually be successful at the domination, since the pre-combat roll only 'calms' them first.

For 'RANGER' -animal empathy success could turn the critters into acutal henchment, and not just 'dominated' creatures.. meaning the Ranger could keep the critter through resting, and it wouldn't time out.

Problem with red animals is in my experience that players tend to react first and listen to druid later. While if something stays blue (and many animals on Amia are blue till they "smell you out"), players are less prone to cutting through.

But nice idea :)
