Whilst events on the surface unfold, even the largest of cataclysms would be but but the quietest of echos in the dark caverns. As such, even as Kohlingen's ruins smoulder and armies gather upon the isle of Amia, life in L'Obsul has been surprisingly peaceful. Buisiness has been good, and the city prospers. However, troubling rumours from traders visiting the city have concerning news. Rumours spread of Orcs, Goblinoids and others launching raids on Drow Enclaves and Duergar clanholds across the Northdark, and through it all, the tales of a large armoured figure riding a giant worg. Already, refugees come from one of L'Obsul's trade partners, a small drow mercantile enterprise specializing in alchemical preparations.

In the face of this, the powers that be have decided that they will meet to discuss how to best prepare L'Obsul for this. The Council has arranged a meeting and will announce their decision to the population of L'Obsul following the meeting. However, each of the factions has their own way of dealing with the news before hand. The House Zau'tar and the Duergar can be seen undergoing various military preparations, with additional patrols being made. The Svirfneblin are often seen in little huddles, discussing the rumors in quiet whispers, whilst additional excavations can be heard from within the Kobold warrens. Finally, the Orogs redouble their mining efforts, the toiling within the Gulag becoming even more unbearable than usual.

Despite the rumours, most of the population is not worried yet. After all, It is just an normal warlord, isn't it?

OOCRunning 2 Events and then will allow some time for Player responses.

Verdict of the L'Obsul Council: Thursday 5th September - 7pm GMT / 3pm EST
Follow up event: Sunday 8th September - 8pm GMT/4pm EST

One with a keen eye for such things will eventually notice that the status quo has changed, and none have keener eyes for status quo changes then Drow: noticing such changes is the difference between living and dying after all in a society driven by intrigue and politics.

Jhaeliria D'Vilrath, Third Daughter of Matron Tagnik'zur D'Vilrath, ponders upon such developments. Goblinoids, even Bugbears, were common throughout the Underdark. Few thought very much of such creatures: they were useful swords for hire at best, or troublesome slaves at worst with only the Orogs posing a militarised, and indeed very real threat.

Perhaps it was the description of an Orc on a Worg that intrigued her the most: Orogs were quick to outsmart and put down their lesser surface kin which made the description from the rumours rather... strange. Was it an Orog? Did a surface orc really have gall or the brawn to drive below the Underdark? Is it something else? Could it be bought? Was it a maddened, frothing lunatic rager that wanted nothing but destruction for destruction's sake like the rest? More importantly, what was a Worg?

Questions, questions, questions...

Like everyone else, she ponders and she waits for the sleeping giants that be to come to their conclusions. More importantly, she ponders which of the powers will plot against the others, and even more importantly which one would be successful...

The doors locked behind them, the council of L'Obsul discuss the threats, alongside other matters that affect the day to day running of the city. Messengers are dispatched, informing all that soon they will announce their findings.

OOCEvent Kicking off soon!

The Shocking news of the days events spreads like wildfire through the tunnels and chasms of L'Obsul. News tells that the Orog representitive on the council had been poisoned, and that his body exploded into many spiders, which grew menacingly fast and attacked all near. The Crowd ran in fear, and in the choas, several of the delegates and their aides perished. Tension in the city rises in a matter of hours, paranoia flares and the future looks once more uncertain.

The Orogs, are infuriated by the days events, and young orogs can be seen roaming the streets in groups. These groups are almost looking for trouble, daring the Drow population of the city (Whom they seem to blame for the assassination of one of their own) to cause trouble. Older Orogs seem a little more canny, and whilst they glare hatefully at their neighbours, they do not seem quite so provokative. No official stance has been made clear by their Chief however, who is seen brooding silently in the Orog quarter. Outside of the territory however is a new decoration, the severed head of the Orog Bodyguard upon a large spike. Beneath him, daubed crudely onto a sign in his own blood, a single word in orcish. "Traitor."

Many suspect the House Zau'tar in the affair, for their delegation made good their escape fairly early. They too, have made no official declaration, although it is clear that they are readying themselves for a potential conflict. More guards can be seen upon the outer wall, and the house Members are warned not to stray into a position where they can be attacked by the Orogs. Many of their eyes do not look inward into the city however... but outward. None house affliated Drow citizens are careful to stay together in groups, and seem to be avoiding trouble for the most part.

The Kobolds seem agitated, and are rarely seen outside of their warrens. The Delegate that died being one of their oldest and most respected elders. What their tribe will do without such guidance is anyone's guess. Noises from inside of their warren suggest they are doing something however.

The deep gnomes seem to be in an uncomfortable position. No one suspects them of the assassination... and so they seem to be stuck as the peacemakers and middlemen. A place that many of them do not wish to be. After all... If a fight breaks out and they are in the middle? Someone is going to have a bad time.

For the Duergar however, nothing really seems to have changed. They continue their preparations for the cities defense, their foundries churning out arms and armour that is stockpiled in Duergar armouries. If asked about the current situation, the answer will be along the lines of, "Same shit, different day."

Showing little patience for a potential conflict brewing between House Zau'tar and the Orog populace, Kerath focuses his efforts on preparing for the fight with the oncoming invader. Opting to try and spend time with the duergar, the drow mercenary offers his skills as an experienced trapper and engineer, hoping to make any enemy march into L'Obsul as painful and gruelling as possible.

Defence however, was a distant second preference for dealing with Wolfpelt’s forces and Kerath would regularly be found trying to obtain information on their movements and composition, making no secret of his desire to strike out at the best opportunity.

Life in L'Obsul gets a little less productive. Since the business with the council meeting, the Kobolds have ceased supplying the city with their labour and the products of the mines. Rumours have it that a Svirfneblin delegation has spoken with them, but those negiotiations failed in short order. It is said that the Kobold slain during last weeks events was a respected elder amongst their kind and that they are taking it hard, hiding from an oncoming storm. To make up for the shortfall, the Duergar have redoubled thier efforts in their own mines, and the whips of the overseers can be heard with a renewed ferocity.

The Orogs, have for now at least, ceased thier roving and looking for trouble. A group of them was seen hauling a drow prisoner into their den. Guffaws and cheers could be heard throughout the night as the poor soul is treated to Orog hospitality. It is clear perhaps, that some within the city are not happy about this development either, although no response has yet come to light.

It seems that while some are focusing beyond L'Obsul, others are focused within.

Despite Vilrath's neutral stance in the L'Obsul affairs as dictated by their Matron, several of its members seem to still be publicly active. One of those active members, a particular female whose better known as "The Twisting Witch," seems to be searching for something. Or someone in particular.

The purpose of this something, or someone, for now is up for speculation.

The Cycle started off peacefully in L'Obsul. The sounds of hammers on anvils, of picks on stone and of merchants calling out to sell their wares. The Kobolds remain barricaded in thier caves, but aside from the lack of Kobolds in the streets, the city is almost back to normal after the recent troubles.

The Orogs gather for one of their few religious observances. Cheers and shouts can be heard from within their cave. First.... In jubilation, and then in surprise, anger and combat. The Raid is short and sharp, the initial onslaught costing the Orogs greatly. However, due to their strength and natural ferocity the Drow attackers are defeated. The Orogs sally forth in force... and head towards House Zau'tar. After a tense confrontation, they leave.

Rumours circulate in the wake of the event.

Some say that House Vil'rath gave the Orog's a Zau'tar agent, which is why the attack took place, to kill their agent and preserve their secret. Others say that Nal'tyrr of House Zau'tyrr was behind the attack, hiring mercenaries are he plots and schemes to take power. Still more suggest that they drow were forward scouts from an invasion force, others that they were acting with the blessing of the Vil'rath house itself. These and many more are spoken on the lips of men and women in the settlement. The Truth of the matter? Only those in that tense confrontation can tell.

It has been a few cycles since the meeting and Tagnik'zur once more steps out into the streets of L'Obsul, there is the usual commotion that ensues when one of her power and station shows, but that soon settles as she takes a seemingly harmless seat at one of the tables around the merchant area. She orders her favorite, Vlos d'l'Har'oloth, sipping her wine as she listens to the whispers, lips curved in malicious amusement at the anger she hears in many voices and the underlying fear that causes such a reaction.

While Vilrath's position in the events has been officially neutral, her little spiders begin to weave their webs of lies, deception and intrigue, increasing Vilrath's reputation and the fear that breeds the most reliable kind of respect and awe. The rumor mill is alive and well in L'Obsul, even if everything else has been disrupted, bwael. Her little spiders feast and grow, adding to her power and that of Vilrath, increasing the reputation and fear with which the Que'llar is viewed. She takes another sip of her wine, pleased at how her little spiders grow, some born of Vilrath blood, others recruited, all doing her proud and proving they are worthy to bare the Que'llar name.

It seems that the Twisting Witch, the Third Daughter of House Vilrath, has retired to the temporary Vilrath Compound in L'Obsul for the time being. There was speculation that she was wounded during the successful raid for a high priority target: a goblin by the name of Crect, who was in league with the assassin of the Council delegates.

Naturally there's no formal statement from house Vilrath on the topic of the Third Daughter, nor can any word truly be trusted: it may not have been the actual Twisting Witch after all. However, House Vilrath does confirm that the Assassin's accomplice is now dead, and a base of operations by the infiltrating dissidents destroyed in the process.

One would call such a victory of sorts.
