The desert weather has been quite unstable as of late. Many travelling caravans have reported to have faced many more unexpected sandstorms than on their previous annual pass-throughs of the desert. The few safe camping spots on the general routes are full of stuck merchant caravans and mercenaries alike, and the frustrated people are heard both complaining and speculating the strange situation. However, nobody seems to be certain of what’s going on.

As soon as the word reaches the major settlements of Khem, various organisations seem to mobilise themselves. Scavengers and thieves use the opportunity to make some cash on looting abandoned caravans, mercenary bands are hired to chase said thieves but continue looting whatever they can, innkeepers prepare for extra customers and cash flowing in… Many people seem to profit from the weird weather, though more and more people also begin to worry about the sandstorms coming too close to towns such as Djedet and Nes’ek.

Town officials would ask the people to continue with their lives and not mind the storms too much, but the tension is rising. Few people look at the horizon with a smile since even children see the jackals.
