It was a lovely evening at Ceyren's Mill: children playing outside, mothers hurrying from markets to the well and back home again to cook dinners before their husbands arrived from a hard day's labour. Despite the ever-present threat of bandits, everyone was focused on pushing ahead with their daily lives.

Mrs. Cullen stood by the well, pulling the bucket up to fill her own containers with fresh water. The load seemed a little heavier now, she thought, pulling the rope harder. A little more and there the bucket was again. She glanced at the bucket, looking for the cause of the weight... and saw something wrapped in rags. Mrs. Cullen cursed and grabbed the wrap out of the bucket, turning it around to have a better look at it.

It was a little child, no older than a year, swaddled in the rags. Was it not for the deathly pallor of the child's skin, he looked as if he just slept soundly.

Every person nearby turned to look at the scene as they heard Mrs. Cullen's horrified scream...

The themes of this week's event may be triggering to some. If you feel OOCly uncomfortable with the primer above, without revealing more of the plot I recommend waiting for the next opportunity to participate!

The event will take place this Wednesday, 19th January at GMT 17:00. Your character arrives to Ceyren's Mill and witnesses the scene described above. I'll take five players for this event. If you sign up (by posting below your character's reaction upon arrival), please make sure the time is good for you.

Please see this topic for more information.

A green haired witch is taking a drink at the Singing Sun tavern, stopping by the sleepy town after her monthly herb harvest.
She hears an piercing scream which could rival her own, and curious, she takes a peek out of the window.
Even more curious to see a crowd has gathered outside, she walks out to investigate.
But not before the owner screams at her for forgetting to settle her tab.

Having spend a few days exploring the area for anything that might prove useful or interesting in some way of form, Toag is taking a pause at the village. The first screams pass him by as he's preocupied with looking into a small hand mirror as he combs out his icy blue locks. After a few minutes he manages to notice something and upon looking up sees the gathering crowd. With a sigh the mirror and comb disappear in a pocket and he walks to a good vantage point to see what local herd is going on about.

As often the case when visiting Ceyren's Mill, lord Robert's identity is hidden to avoid the gathering of a crowd of people wishing to speak to him or behaving differently than usual. The hood of his cloak pulled down low in his face and his signet ring hidden in a pocket, he turns on the spot as he hears the scream of Mrs. Cullen. Quickly he makes his way towards the origin of the scream, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade in the inside of his worn patched up woolen cloak.

Samkin heard the chilling scream, even above the grind and clatter of the mill, and the steady 'thwomp' of his flail as he threshed new grain.

Anxious that it might mean further Banite trouble, he grabbed both his old quiver and fine new bow, despite the lack of practice with it, and its strong draw-weight, compared to the one with which he had practiced long....two days in each Ten, as was proper - and from beside it, the old threshing flail that Brother Quin, the Priest of Gond had specially modified for him, adding carefully edged and sharpened bits of otherwise scrap metal.

Not only was he born in Ceyren's Mill, and had lived all his life there, but he had recently taken service with Sir Robert, and pledged himself to defending Caraigh.....

Vicho Aers wanders around his new home, the village of Ceyren's Mill, trying to find something important to do and make himself useful. He carries his new set of armour proudly and has his great axe strapped to his back. All of a sudden he hears screams from the well and sees everyone rushing towards it. After standing there confused for a while, he pulls out his axe and charges towards the noise, being sure he can be the hero of the day and gain respect amongst the peasants!

((Right, if what I asked in the other thread isn't all right, this post never existed in the first place.))

A second judgment is passed at Ceyren's Mill that week: first to a local man, who'd left the village to become an adventurer. Later, to Mr. and Mrs. Vach, a local farmer couple. Their sentence is for the murder of innocent children. The husband is sent to prison, but the wife to the nearby asylum. The local man judged the previous day is declared innocent by lord Robert.

// Feel free to post accounts of what happened, if you'd like. For follow-ups with any of the NPCs involved, post a notice here, too, and we'll arrange a time.

His emotions being ratlled to his core, first at the sight of the dead child, and now standing before the town he once left so long ago. It only brought painful thoughts of his past to the surface.

The fire in his heart was ablaze after that and since then he spent every waking hour searching for the real culprits in the heinous crime comitted. He posed as the criminal himself only to draw them out...

Now the two gulity stand before the people of the town. They are sentanced and taken away. The very large man could not hold it any longer... He had to get all the bottled emotion from his large frame. He spoke to the people. He spoke of understanding, and common pains. He cried. He wiped his tears away. After witnessing the events that had befallen the townsfolk, Garrett walked through the Village and noticed a change in the air, as if for a short moment the resolution of what he thought as nothing more than his "Duty", had caused the people to forget the horrors lying beyond the walls and try to enjoy what they had; family, friends and a place to call their own.

The voluntary actions of the few adventurers had shown the townsfolk that there is still good in the land, that there will always be people to aid in times of peril. They knew their Baron would do everything in his power to see the land rid of the taint, to see every wrong, corrected and every injustice, solved. The children would then grow up to tell tales of the heroes of Ceyrens Mill.

At least, thats what he thought anyway, and with it, he continued his patrol.

As the green haired witch returned to the inn for a night's boarding, she tossed and turned in her sleep all night, bothered by something.

Witch...
Witch...

Witch!

The next morning she would seek out Baron Robert for an audience. There is more to this chapter than meets the eye, she thinks.

Having the hood of his cloak pulled well over his horns, Toag moves into the back part of the crowd. He notes with some facination the ongoings of the trail and the swirling emotions of the crowd till atlast the trail comes to its climax and with a bottle of mead in one hand he cheerfully chants along as the likely predetermited sentence is read out.
"Witch! Witch! Witch!"

For an area of the world in which is interest bordered on the purely geoghrapic this outing was turning out to be more interesting then he thought. He takes it to asking around if such situations occured frequently here, taking care to be shocked, delighted, or whatever mood would get his questions answered.

Taking a detour to Ceyren's Mill in hopes of finding any of the Mystic Blade members, E'dalar stumbled upon a small assembly of people. Dismissing the whole thing as a conversation about fishing spots and missing women, he would prepare to leave the town to find crystal ore from a nearby cave, when suddenly lord Robert called out for him.

Surprised at the sudden attention, he walked back, expecting a brief talk about fortifications, materials, equipment for the town guards. The ordinary. Instead he was presented with a murder scenario, which fascinated him.

After a ruse by lord Robert to lure out the culprits, the murderer and accomplice, husband and wife, were caught.
Looking at the group, surrounding the pair made E'dalar uncomfortable. Not knowing whether or not this could be his fate someday, he turned away and let them handle it. After all, he was but a freelance merchant and student of the local academy, he was not one to deal out death and judgement, lest it involve any person he would hold dear.

He would hope that the baron passed out a mild sentence in this case however, and hasten the process of the cleansing the taint.

// Lovely event Momma Nekhy and sorry for barging in, I haven't read this thread until the day after the event

Prescia, escorted by man-at-arms Duncan, would visit the asylum where Mrs Vach is housed.
After speaking with the chief caretaker, Father Darian, and then Mrs Vach herself, it would seem that no sinister forces are at work.
Having explored nearly every possibility that came to mind, perhaps it istruly a case of prolonged mental illness.
The two departed to report the results of the investigation to the Baron.
