Hey there! I'm curious what people think about this matter.

Intro: Warlocks do not really use their weapons for melees. They however want +5 to it, because it affects the blast. Right now, Saya is wielding a weapon that's intended for melee uses (because that's how she's fought through the years, and I haven't gotten a replacement). For that reason, warlocks are better off with "staff-like" weapons which give supportive bonuses, rather than bonus damage and such. This is kinda similar to how some of the shifter gear is valued differently.

Problem: I have not yet managed to replace Saya's weapon, as, to my knowledge, there is no weapon that seems to fit the bill of stuff I would like to wear. Before I invest with DCs on a weapon, I would like to know what people think.

Really valuable bonuses:
- damage resist
- ability scores
- saves
- regen
- other (freedom would fall under "other" for example)

Not as valuable bonuses:
- skill bonuses
- spell slots

Topic Question: If you have/had a warlock, what weapon do/would you use? What stats does it have?

-----

So far, the best weapons available found are:

- Stone Giant Club (from +4 lootbin - can be mythal crafted)
- Warlock Staff (from the djinn)
- DC Requests

Just as a cursory glance, Freedom will not be allowed on a weapon. And the damage resistance is highly unlikely. In my opinion.

What Jes said. A weapon with more than +2 straight regeneration (aka not vampiric) is also unlikley. Same with saves, those are rather limited on weapons due to general overall balance for mages.

I think the Djinn warlock staff is pretty decent as far as weapons for warlocks go.

+2 charisma, +1 dexterity, +1 regeneration, 2xday Greater Planar Binding

This is what the Djinn Warlock staff is, for reference. So abilities and regen certainly have precedent.

Kieler personally uses the Warlock Staff from the Djinn. For his purposes it has worked quite well. It doesn't have +5 Enhancement so he just uses Greater Magic Weapon on it.

I would argue that a warlock could use the weapon to emulate their Damage resistance abilities etc.

You have access to greater magic weapon as a warlock, so why not use it? +5 enhancement for free means you can get +2 free mythal powers on a weapon.

So you can mythal +2 con or +2 whatever stat you want on an item. Iirc you can also do the same with save bonuses, skill bonuses and regen. Give that a try, see what you prefer and what helps your build more, maybe +2 dex for the +1 ranged touch ab? maybe +2 con for the 60 extra hp? Regen for well.. regen. Then once you know what helps you more, make a request for a DC item that has what you need + fluff for your character.

So far the relevant answers to the question I got were the djinn's warlock staff and crafting something (sadly I already thought of those two ;().

Have people found or thought about anything else? A weapon that already is on the server and would have some bonus that's not easily craftable and thus can make for a good weapon (either with some crafting, or as is).

Personally, what I found was:
1 ) Djinn's Warlock Staff
2 ) DC item
3 ) Craft ability scores on a +5 AB weapon

Problem with crafting is that the weapon ends up being limited to 4 power slots, and the desirable bonuses cost a lot (regen, universal saves, ability scores, etc.).

As for Freedom on weapons... I don't care, nor would desire that on my weapon. I also never asked for it, I simply listed a power that could fall in "other". Freedom is easy to get on very good gear, so it would be redundant.

Very good point, but sadly if you put this on a weapon, it means that your abilities that should be passive are now tied to an item you only wear when in battles.

The only abilities of value to a war lock on gear are as follows:

  • Enough dex to cap your AC in whatever armor you're using (9 base is all you need if you plan on DC requesting plate, then you can just put on boots of the broken ones)
  • Your dodge boots. Dex is your easiest option - just use it to cap your AC unless you don't care about AC.
  • CON
  • Saving throws
  • Discipline but only if you can get the +30 gloves otherwise you'll never have enough for it to matter anyway.

So the things you want to do:

  • Cap AC sources
  • Cap CON
  • Base Fort 38 for dev crit
  • Other saves to 38 after spellcraft

You do not need or frankly even want DR because it will inhibit your saves. Since unlike wizards you actually have to build for AC you might not have room in your gear for it but I'd have to run the numbers. If you can get that AND saves all the better but I don't think it will help that much.

That said if you get into a fight with anything that can hit you that won't kill you in a round you wanna chug yourself an elemental shield so you can kill them faster. A gear set for PvP would probably include DR just for that purpose but if you're expecting PvP swap out for the above priorities if you find yourself having to choose one or the other because that DR won't save you in pvp. 600+ hp will though.
