Does this still require DM supervision when attempted or has the rules changed?

There are the general changes to the system, not sure how old they are, and whether you know them. Otherwise, I've never heard of it needing DM supervision. Only current OOC rule, is that the normal system is not allowed, even if you manage to gear for it, so that you could use it. You have to use the widget for that.

Currently, pickpocketing isn't really "worth it", because of how it is all calculated and despite 1 rolls on skills not being automatic fails in pnp it is with the current system.
Even if you manage to get your PP with modifiers up past 120 you still always have at least a 5% chance of crit failing against everyone, even people with no spot or other bonus to their DC roll. Even on successes you will end up with less coin than you would get from using any of the job system things, and on a fail you're going to have a bunch of pissed off PC's on your hands.

On the other hand... It is EXTREMELY SATESFYING to succeed and know you got away with it, even if the coin is near nonexistant (and worth noting that it DOES NOT deduct from the target's gold), and it doesn't yield random items like it did in the past. In the past if you pickpocketed X, then you had a chance of getting a random item named after the target, such as X's handkerchief, which had a lot of RP potential to taunt them with or sell to someone that might want to scry on them or whatever.
