So I noticed that my characters tend to end up with around nine magic bags lately, which seems like a lot to me.
I'm curious if other players think that magic bags have become too convenient and end up increasing the amount of crap we don't -really- need in our inventory.
So, how many magic bags does your character usually have? Do they actually need the bags? For what?

5 Dont need them, it is just better for organizing inventory. Like - stuff I wanna use later, stuff too pricey to just sell etc.

My inventory is all bags. With bags inside of them. Blame a lack of persistent storage/player housing to stuff mementos in.

My archer and mage have the most. Idan doesn't need them, but they help organize the absolute shitload of arrows he carries around. Sunny's a weakling, so he needs them.
Idan has something like 15 bags, and Sunny has something along the same lines.

We have an idea to solve this. That's all I will say.
Also, the current char I play the most has eighteen. But some of those are because the objects I'm storing are too big to allow a lot in there.

My dex characters (or those without oodles of strength) carry loads of the bags of holding at least just to carry all the junk. I usually have tons of bags/crates regardless due to not having anywhere else to store all the junk/outfits my PC's tend to end up with.

Mary currently has 7, but that will eventually increase... Organisation and, as mention, no residential storage. ^^

Aven carries well over twenty bags and boxes, most of it holding the various goods she produces for a living. Only four are for personal stuff (gear, potions, traps, etc), and two are for loot she puts up for sale when setting up shop.
Mostly, it's to make room and to keep her inventory in a relatively ordered state.

On average, I carry 7 bags to make my normal equipment easy to find and out of the way for organizational purposes. Of course it also may be that it soothes my OCD's. My rouge however carries about 60 bags. Or does someone know a better way to carry 270 traps and a literal ton of miscellaneous gear for strength challenged toons?

I keep the same eight bags in the same places on the same inventory pages of all of my characters, with the same sorts of things in each one. The top right bag on page two of all my characters is for buff potions. The next bag to the left is always for scrolls and mythals. Next to the left is healing potions, medical potions, and bandages. And so forth. I always know where to find everything regardless of which character I'm playing.
Some of my characters have additional bags: Kaithan has bags full of arrows and herbalism gear, my street-performer bard has bags full of furniture which she uses to set up her portable amphitheater, et cetera. I tend to play characters which are strength-challenged, so bags are a non-negotiable absolute must-have.

I do the same as Liz, makes it easier to remember where stuff is! Sidenote: same with my hotbar, always put a few of the same things in the same places (barring a couple exceptions).

That'd be 21ish. Caster Cleric needs most everything in bags since he's toting non-mithral heavy armor and shield.
Plus, I figure if I'm using it in game I ought to have it represented in a bag someplace. So doctors herbs, remedies, cloths, fluffy towel, soaps... etc. Then priests incense, tattoo kit and all the items available for the Kelemvorites cause it's pretty cool stuff... garlic wine anyone?

I'm quite impressed by the amount of bags people like to carry.
Do you ever think of the IC view of person with 10+ bags? Or does that generally get ignored? And do you think you'd carry less bags if a reliable and wide spread banking system was put in place? Somewhere where you could potentially store/lift off unlimited items.

Bags of Holding can just get rolled up and packed neatly together into a regular backpack or whatever, they wouldn't take up much physical space. Kaithan already has the most Morgan & Sons space that money can buy; she'd keep a lot more stuff there if it was possible.

I have 38 bags....I'm a shapeshifter so I can just claim I merge it all into myself so I don't look silly if I was ever asked IC.... Shapeshifters = living bags of holding.

My word I think all of my tabs except for my final one are filled with bags. My baggery is quite awful. I would suggest that the dev team make bags into one slot items but honestly my inventory is said to cause team members to lag immensely egg they open it so what I might actually recommend is to make then take up more space and force players to choose which things to keep and which to discard.
But that's just a thought, persistent storage containers would be nicer but I don't know how hard they would be to integrate into amia as a module.

Total I think I have about 1-2 full inventory screens of bags on every char I have.
Personally, I don't mind it. I know which bag holds what stuff and tend to organize them all the same way to make inventory management a no-brainer. I even design empty spots for their gear to go, and in ways to make sure that unequipping that helmet will always make it go one spot instead of another, same for weapons, bows, etc. That way I never drop things accidentally.
edit: And for the IC rep. of the bags, I actually have it on Thomas. His unenchanted backpack is filled with tools and bags of holding, as well as several tied on the outside, belt, etc. He is indeed a packrat.
As for the rest of my chars.. for the most part, it's not directly RPed out.

Pierce has 4 but he's a dex build so that number will probably skyrocket.
Torin has about 20, I think.
Reinard had 25, I think, but nowhere near all of them were full. I needed them to throw loot in since he was a full plate wizard.

Or of the character carrying a billion swords, so much gold that would weigh you down and you'd probably injure or kill yourself, and a bunch of epic loot that would fall out of your pockets. In my opinion, bags aren't a problem that need to be fixed.

Another thing I've been wondering is, does UMD work in to this at all? Does your character end up bagging a lot more stuff because of it?
Are there items you'd like to be stackable? I realize most job system items take a lot of room and would be way easier to manage, if you could just stack them to piles of 10.

Having to RP over 30 bags sounds like a bad case of bagception.
I always thought I was a spoiled packrat, but really I only ever have a couple of bags regardless of the character. I don't mind the chaos, as being tidy and organised is very much contrary to every breathing cell in my body, but I can't bear the excess. I keep my inventory messy but empty.

Around 60 filled with ores, armours, weapons, essentials and junk. I roleplayed it as a ridiculously large and unwieldy bag carried by an equally large and unwieldy man.

13 on Beldor, 3 on Zammi. ICly neither of them carries anything more than 1 in my mind. Most of that stuff is kept in their house and they would have on hand as needed. As far as I'm concerned, 30 bags of holding(as godawful as that is) can be ignored just as easily as the fact you can carry like 35 greatswords in your inventory without a bag. But I prefer to keep my own limit to no more than a single page of bags, desperately trying to get fewer, while most of my other inventory pages remain blank anyway.

Mez has... Three hungry, hungry ladybug- uh bags for heavy stuff, (from here on mostly spider bags) Three for loot, two general stuff for his job, one for potions, like 5 for "stuff" (others would call this junk, most likely) and then two for each trap type he has. And all that while only being able to carry 86 pounds.

51 bags, boxes and bags of holding (maybe 8-10 of the latter?) on Xaviera, of which 13 are for clothing and cloaks alone (she has two others for boots, armour and shields). That said, a number of them are empty at this point due to a minor recent bout of item pruning - I think she's now below the 500-item threshold - but she has a number of personal and legacy items (old Thayvian crafting stuff or items from long-lost areas or quests). She has one bag for rings alone, including something like two dozen rings of Sharess.
