So this is in the make. A location is found.

We need a name!

Please post all your creative (but please serious) suggestions.

I personally think something with Hydra would be cool. But any creative suggestion that is entirely differnt is most welcome too.

Adventuring Guild is very generic. Some details may help in finding a name. What is the location? What is the guild's statement or motto? Where did they receive their initial operations deposit (publicly funded or privately, and if private, is it known?)

Just adding some random ideas in no particular order:

Guild of the Eternal Seekers
Order of the Staff and Blade
Chasers of the Thrill
Followers of the Unruly Heart
The Wayward Wanderers
Disciples of the Helping Hand
Wayfarers of the Trackless Sea
The Vagrants

They are located in cordor. They will (have bought) the old Cordor Theater and now are renovating it. Before that they operated from the nomad, where they just shared jobs, took on jobs and so on. A few were quite successful and they all agreed 10% of the payment for every job goes into funding the guild, which is how the system will continue to work and which now allowed them to buy the old, damaged theater. They are not posessing super riches yet, so the money basically went for the building only and the reconstruction is all self made and the interor collected from second hand sales, donations, or whatever they personally had spare!

They do not have a motto yet a I am just building up the whole thing, but if you have a cool motto idea which goes along with a name you have in mind, be my guest in suggesting one too.

They do take jobs from almost anyone and whenever someone is available or has a special skill for a task they can pick the job and when fulfilled collect the payment directly and add the 10% share to the guild funds.

As a sneak peak! for you.. those are the job categories the guild works with:

The Jobs

N-Class-Jobs
Short for Normal class jobs. Those can be taken by anyone. They do not require a certain skill level.

Example:
Farmer Boldwin's priced pig is reported missing. He offers a 500 gold reward for whoever finds out what happened to the precious animal.

M-Class-Jobs
Short for Mediocre class jobs. These jobs do require some training, though not a seasoned adventuerer. (pre epic)

Examples:
General Nof offers a reward of a special trinklet for anyone who discovers what stirred the trolls into odd and bold activity lately.

The church of Selune offers a reward of 2.000 gold and a rare silver amulet with a special property for anyone to aid with a Malarite mission in the forest of dispair.

E-Class-Jobs
Short for Elite class jobs. These jobs do require seasoned training. (epic characters)

Examples:
Professor Quilby offers a rare magical item and 10.000 gold to whomever investigates into Beholder activity and brings him at least 2 samples of different Beholders.

White Necromancer Madame Silena has created a new formula for vampire purging holy water flasks with garlic components. She offers no less than a divine mythal for whom is daring enough to test it against the stongest of Vampires around in the Manor of Mourn and brings back detailed results.

SS-Class-Jobs
Short for Special Skill class jobs. These jobs do require specific skills to solve. (either literal skills or job system)

Examples:
Archimedes the Archologist offers a reward of a curious artifact for whom helps him retrieve tomes and artifacts from an old tomb in the desert. Beware, skills with traps and locks are required.

Baltasar's house is haunted. He offers his family amulet for whomever is able to end the spook.

S-Class-Jobs
Short for Suicidal class jobs. These jobs require a high amount of training and a lot of help. And even then your success is not guaranteed. (30+)

Examples:
A handsome reward is paid by the wizard Batholomew for whomever dares to enter the lair of the fierce red dragon in the High Mountains. He wishes an old artifact of his former master returned. The rest of the hoard of this wyrm is to remain with the brave adventurers who slay the beast.

In the end, both DMs and PCs can offer jobs/quests.

We will try to handle as much as possible IG, but there will also be a PC Story subforum to write out jobs.

P.S. The guild is completely neutral. They are located in the middle of cordor west and east and in front of the soon to be opned nexus gate. Shady jobs and noble jobs are taken and offered alike.

I'd be tempted to make some tactless reference to Herakles' twelve labors, but since that's probably a no-go for obvious reasons, I'd try to abstract some metaphorical meaning from the Hydra.

Hydras are big and dangerous serpentine beasts, and with every head you cut, two more spring instead. This to me could easily convey the sentiment that we are big, dangerous and many, but still united into "one body and mind", the former being the structure and discipline of the guild, the latter being the goal of the faction. There's some good substance for a motto in that.

And then there's the fact that your characters would work for gold. The Golden Hydra? It's banal, I know.

You'd be practically asking people to say 'Hail Hydra' in an IC context <_<

There were people doing RP around the Cordor theater and things. Is that being taken into account ICly, or is this a purely OOC decision on the location and it will be forced ICly for the agenda?

I've been told there are no plans for this building or the whole area around apart of the Nexus and that the new bardic stuff will be in the festival grounds.

Who told you that? SamTheGiantSlayer and Cordor DMs (Kobra in particular) have overseen RP regarding the future of the place specifically and Central as a whole so I would be confused if they told you there was no RP around it or have nothing to say about integrating it ICly! I would hate for the RP process to pain you as much as Burning was pained by the Mage guild one. (The Cordor politics can be a bitch, to put it bluntly.) It'd be nice for it to be integrated as ICly as it is OOCly.

Aside from being confused that we're putting OOC before IC, I do think the idea is awesome, Ama. I don't want you to think I'm mad about it. I'm not. Just trying to help the process for both sides. As a player who is active around Cordor, it's nice to see the IC along with the OOC. As a DM, I think it helps prepare you for whatever PC reactions in the area might be! (Some might hate it. Some also might make it all happen even faster!)

Cleared up stuff with Ama, there is in fact RP things happening in Central. Not to fret, I just need to secure a medium in which I let everyone know what's going on and prevent misunderstandings in the future!

Put the adventuer's guild in the frontier where that useless barn is-- it's a great place if you think about it.

It's actually pretty easy to get to for lowbies of any type and its not too far from Cordor or the Dale. A nice place with some goblin problems. But hey adventures! It can have a nice set up really!

My chief vote would be for an IC determination by players after a little establishment roleplay so that the name has the potential to mean even more than one picked before anyone gets involved.

Tungsten Hydra Adventuring Company/Companions

I would go with something similar than the "League of Travellers".

If I may, I would also suggest to make it less guild-like. Make it a high class tavern-like thing, like the League of Travellers supposed to be, where the information flows and storytellers come together. A guild-like thing would indicate that it requires a membership to be there, due to the word's etymology, and that is something which wouldn't be ideal for this concept. Not to mention that historical guilds (fishermen, merchants, tanners etc) in one city demanded memberships and those without membership were not allowed to practice the said trade. If they did then they were persecuted and killed eventually.

However, an IC and OOC proposal to players and PCs to form small (4-6 characters max) adventuring companies, like WonWon's "Thousand of Heroes" or Pony's "Dragonsong", may create a very interesting RP that would go back to the D&D and FR core. These wouldn't be factions but a bit smaller groups of adventurers, mercenaries, bandits....whatever you wish to make. These groups could ally with eachother, competing, fight....again...whatever they want to do, meanwhile the DM can lay back and be an "equal opportunity employer".

That is what it is.

There is no full fledged membership. People meet in the guild hall and pick their jobs, either band together or not, pick jobs, hand in jobs. There's no huge signing up process or membership resonsibilities.

So of course sub groups are very likely and not a problem to build. Likely often temporary...

Yeah, this is why the "Guild" name makes it sound weird. What you have described now and earlier to Yossarin's question gives is everything but a guild, in both FR and historical perspective.

The concept is awesome, but when you say "Adventurer Guild", it gives a completely different suggestion.

The whole point of D&D and FR is that the players are playing adventurers, automatically marking them as members of said adventurers guild. :P

It has nothing to do with D&D historical. This is a homebrew thing entirely.

I like names that are very telling of trade in this setting that are not fantastical in title or read like staring at some sort of custom tattoo,

Like: I brought along an "Hourman", or simply, "The Spares", or hire a "Coin Boot"
