Unarmed monks get shafted when it comes to mythal crafting, because they don't use a weapon or shield on which to add up to 8 mythal powers. That's a huge handicap, when it's often said that equipment is what really makes a char truly viable in epic levels.

Does anyone else see this as 'unfair'? Is there something that can/should be done to even this out?
Just curious. It's stopped me from considering an unarmed monk, even tho it's the most fundamental of monk builds out there.

edit: changed title to reflect that this applies to all unarmed builds, not just monks.

An advice totally unrelated to your question. If the character you have in your mind is supposed to be unarmed, then worry not about the lack of weapon/shield and their bonuses.

I know epic monk gloves are +6, but if two-handed weapons got extra mythal slots, maybe then the gloves should as well. I am not sure if it is doable though. I doubt that you can give monk gloves more crafting slots, without giving it to all the gloves in the module.

I'm not worried about lack of weapon/shield, it's lack of mythal slots that go on those items. If extra mythal slots could be added to monk gloves that then only work on a monk build, that'd fix the issue in a jiffy. I'm open to any options that can even this out for unarmed builds. And this is really not just for monks, it's for any unarmed build really. I should change the title to reflect that.

Possible, but not clean code.

1d20 base unarmed damage + 2d6 elemental and +5 (GMW actually adds damage to them..) + STRmod and Weapon spec is plenty enough on it's own.. My monk actually doesn't use kamas or any other monk weapons because unarmed damage is higher.

Hey folks,

Just a short reminder but I thought it warranted saying that this is not the improving amia forum, and that forum was purposefully closed for a few months (until may 13) in order to evaluate how we things go without it, as well as consider all the changes recommend thus far.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other about your recommendation (I would have to build and play more monks first) and while I see it's merit this isn't really the forum for it.

Please don't fill the GD forum with these.
Here's Glim's post for reference:
