Hi,
there was a topic about PvP rules that ended unconcluded with this at the end http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=78280&start=81.

I want to ask if there was some conclusion, because I cannot find any. If yes, can you give me a link, I couldn't find it (which could be just my oversight).

Thank you.

That whole thread gave me a headache. Then again, PvP rules always do. There's simply no ruling that'll make everyone happy, especially when it comes to resting (which if WYSIWYG removes the core idea of Spells per Day from the game), area transitions (which can effectively make any Rogue a Shadowdancer if their PC loads faster) and arriving to the scenes of dead people. And then there's the whole matter of "Why can't I move a dead body? I'd like to pick my friend up and run, but can't.", which of course is as much a thing in PvP as it is in PvM. Then there's the areas that some classes can access, others can't, can they be used, by whom, what qualifies as shadows, can you see shadows from below a cliff, can you fly in an assumed cave while no ceiling is clearly determined, which are caves, case-by-case, area-by-area rulings... @_@

I can understand why this gives DMs indigestion and horrible headaches. Especially since, no matter how I've tried to speculate altered rules in my head, I've not been able to come up with PvP rules as a whole that would satisfy everyone. There's always a number of players who feel wronged about them.

Such heavy thinking so early in the morning... Here, have a funny picture to lighten the post up;

Always thought the whole shadow thing was BS. Oh, my foot is casting half a partial shadow, from one light being ever slightly so aligned in the distance, creating a very slight dark spot? I can disappear into it! Total bullshit, but that's the meta. I'm pretty sure someone standing right in front of you with light everywhere shouldn't be able to just disappear. Mostly this is a fault of the default lighting level for certain spots (or the entire) area. But, can't blame anyone, because going through every area and customizing that for every spot must be a complete pain in the ass.

But, this is NWN. It's like that for shadowdancers on every server out there. Every old exploit and hack is still in place, with very slight modifications. If you've played this for 10+ years, you can be virtually invisible. Play a SD/Monk, and you will never be seen.

The shadows in NWN are too odd to make sense of a lot of the time, and most people turn shadows off. It's almost best to just think as if shadowdancers can HiPS pretty much anywhere in terms of mechanics for the sake of sanity, and the opposite in terms of lore.

I've seen a few different pictures of that kid and Lurtz, all with him looking similarly terrified. Never been able to work out whether he's just a good wee actor or whether we should report them to the New Zealand social services.

^ This. Mali can disappear so quickly. I try to be fair with my shadow roleplay, seeing as how the very lore behind Shadowdancing is a little bit confusing and convoluted. Especially when you have different instructors telling you different things in game, sometimes writing the base lore off completely. But I usually like to stick with the "a shadow needs to be within ten feet of you and at least half the size of your body". If no one is emoting casting light directly at me to stop me, I don't usually think of it as an issue. If they are, you just have to be reasonably smart about it. For instance, you can position yourself next to an object that will inevitably cast a shadow when a light is shining at it. If it's at least half your size, you can RP hopping into that and fleeing.

But like I said, convoluted!

Remember to make it more complicated for everyone by pointing out Darkness cancels Light and to cast Light on you, they must first succeed a Touch Attack on you. :D

Resting, raising, and transition hopping PvP clarification becomes SD nerf thread...

We will update the playerbase when these rules are updated. In the mean time, I'm locking this thread -- primarily because it's served its purpose, but also because it's going nowhere pleasant.
