It's me, your long distant Amia friend.

A few days ago, because the mediawiki software that drives Amiawiki is out of date I suppose, some hacker got in there and horked the thing to send spam. I shut it down within an hour, but that also messed up the AmiaWiki system database somehow, or something - I'm not sure what happened exactly - but next thing I knew, MySQL's innodb transaction table was .... 4 Gigabytes in size. Ugh.

So I had to export and reimport all the mySQL tables because some idiot forgot to put a setting a certain way in the MySQL tables.

Anyway.... I am going to TRY to recover AmiaWiki to what it was, and upgrade it....

But if I'm not able to do that, I will restore the last manual snapshot I have, which I believe is from April.

Who is the lead admin on AmiaWiki these days? Who is responsible for keeping it together?

If such person would send me a PM, with their contact info (is it you Xavi? If so we HAVE to figure out how to communicate more reliably), we can work on it.

I have some bad news ...

The last FULLY functioning backup I have that has both databases and files was rather old. I spent some considerable time looking for an up to date backup. For the record, the server DOES have complete backups going all the way back to October (and forward) but the problem was that those backups exhibited the original corruption from the hack in them too. I didn't have a good backup that was old enough other than the MANUAL one I had from two years ago when I moved the site between servers.

I apologize - to everyone that lost some hard work making beautiful character details.

The good news is that MediaWiki is running 1.24, and that it is also pulled from git which makes it easier to update in the future. In fact, I plan to automate the update process so that it runs every week.

I'm very sad - I really worked hard to get something newer for everyone. *sigh*.

Please know that I have every intention to maintain the service indefinitely to honor the gift that Amia was to me during a very special time in my life. I wish for, and hope for someday, a similar environment where we can design and run our own servers with a bit more modern flair! It's pretty amazing that NWN is STILL RUNNING after all these years, and someday someone is going to realize why it is still going, and why Minecraft is so successful - people like to build their own places! And then play in them.

Sorry if I'm being a bit slow, but is it safe to start adding new stuff now?

Personally, a blank slate would be nice to build up from minus the out-dated or irrelevant information, but a lot of the information (as far as I'm aware) is only available via the wiki, or accessed more easily via the wiki.
